Just wanted to say how much I'm looking forward to this new (actually working!) version coming soon. wink.gif
Generally I like the interface though drag & drop support and relaxing the ID3 tag rules would be nicer... strange that having spent the last 3 hours copying cds/deleting st.db files it has broken/eventually going back to using the MS dash method I still would much rather see this working than have to manually copy every CD and rename them using the horrible on-screen keyboard.
Anyway, I hope it's soon and I hope it just does the job for now. As someone else said, GTA: SA is calling... Now would be a good time for this app! wink.gif

EDIT: Incidentally, I am interested in learning the technical difficulties that cause these kinds of problems if one of you has the time to comment. After all, converting/copying across the tracks then adding the names is something that sounds like it should be fairly simple when apparently it isn't. What's the deal with st.db being so problematic..?
Slofsky
Real nice to see progress coming along people smile.gif. And also a good idea to start with a working app, before adding more features, can't wait to use this on GTA SA!

This is how the ST.DB works. It has a Header which contains information like The Soundtracks, the Number of Soundtracks, the Next Sountrack ID the Next Song ID, that might be about it. The header part is the easy part, we already have it writing the Header correctly. The next part is the pain in the ass. Each Soundtrack consists of SongGroups, each SongGroup consists of 6 songs. But the catch is, each SongGroup can only hold songs from a single Soundtrack. So that would be how it works I guess in Lamen's (sp?) terms.

Just a side note though, we have reading the ST.DB perfectly, we can write the Header perfectly. Now we are just testing the SongGroup part. smile.gif

I tried your newest version since the first release, and I'm glad to see alot of things fixed and I can now access my music. It lets me preview tracks on my Xbox and rename them. However, when I select one of them and click Download it says "This does nothing". Is the feature to download songs from the Xbox not enabled yet, or is something wrong with mine?

Also, I tried uploading an album to my Xbox, normal 128 bitrate MP3s, and the songs came out messed up. They came out sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks, it's WAY too fast. Is there any way to fix this or are you working on it for the next version?

There is a new app coming along soon. smile.gif

That explains one of the stranger things I was seeing today, where after using the current version I couldn't get the MS dash to copy more than the first 6 tracks from a CD no matter what I did. Oddest part was that it was increasing the size of the ST.DB every time for some reason... the file ended up over 1.5GB and there were copies upon copies of the 0000 soundtrack folder inside another inside another etc. It's a very strange little layout that sounds a lot more difficult than common sense would suggest using. Then it's even more surprising it hasn't been hacked to hell like virtually every other aspect of the XBox by now given how terrible the manual track name entry system is.
xenoxzi
hmmmm, got it to work with UnleashX. Though still buggy in some aspects. It doesnt work at all with XBMC.

Okay, I've been having this problem a lot and haven't seen anyone else mention it, so here goes.

I connect to the Xbox fine, and upon connection VXCR prompts me to name a new soundtrack. I give it a name (my name! I'm so vain) and push ENTER, and I get a message that says "Error creating directory. (6666)" fffe0000 exists under E:\TDATA, and there is also a \music subdir, but it can't create a new directory.

Also, and I'm not sure if this is related, but when I exit the program, it gives the error "Error uploading ST.DB (UploadST)"

Is there something painfully obvious I'm doing wrong here?

In case it helps...

Okay guys, I got some news, take it as bad or good, I would like to say its good. I will be no longer coding this program in Visual Basic 6. I have teamed up with someone, who I won't mention as of yet, but we are now coding this project in .NET. He says that we expect a very basic version out within a week. So you can look forward to that. Also just a note, please do not post anymore bug findings because I won't be using the same code at all anymore. Everything, including the ST.DB handling is being rewritten from the ground up, even as I type this. I hope to have all your support for the new .NET edition that I have had with this version. Thank you for your continued support, and have a great night. smile.gif

Thanks for trying to emphasize on that Winchy.. Most people when they have a problem don't want to come and read the 24 pages on the forums. smile.gif

VXCR is not being developed in it's curent platform. It is no longer being developed in Visual Basic 6, it's being done in .NET C#/VB.. So posting bugs for VXCR here is pointless. smile.gif ..We are going to hopefully get the new working very basic version out very soon, hopefully by this weekend. smile.gif

We will keep you posted.
STKD
Please do. I refuse to start on San Andreas without a decent collection of soundtracks to go with it. wink.gif
VXCR and San Andreas, the ideal partnership...

This weekend? Wow! I expected it to be longer than that!

Yea this weekend. It's very close to being completed, there is just a small bug in the code we can't seem to figure out. Ofcourse it has to do with the SongGroups, the most difficult part of the code. tongue.gif

I think this must be the most anticipated release of VXCR ever. wink.gif
kds..
jus downloaded the program cos it was recommended to me instead of the 2 step combination i was using before.. havent really used it yet but looks good so far but noticed when i was looking at some of the songs if theres no ID3 tag it doesnt tell u the file name jus shows the error so i was thinkin in the next version could u make either an option or jus an extra permanent column that tells u the file name? would make it easier when tryin to rename the files

thanx

kds..

Hey, Im not sure what the problem is with this that you guys are talking about (im deducing it is this program does not actually work? or is it just with SA?) but i am having a problem and i am sorry if it is mentioned somewhere in these 26 pages of text. My problem is that when i try to do a second round of uploading (ie uploaded a cd and then created a new folder and tried to upload a new cd in that folder) the songs i upload the second time do not go into their approiate folder but go to the top folder and overide my other songs. But the thing is is its not true. I go to my xboxs music folder and all the songs i have uploaded are in there and each CD has its own folder. Now is this a personal problem or is one of the things he was suppose to fix in 2 and a half hours according to my time zone wink.gif . well thx to anyone who answers me smile.gif

Side not totally wrong room but lazy smile.gif If i have a softmodded X-Box with UnleashX and want to install a new harddrive is all i need to do is copy all of my files off the one that is currently in my xbox to the new one then lock the one im planning on putting in? Or would i have to hardmod? Thx
Dawg605
Yes, that is a problem in the current build. The previous builds work better.

Virtual Xbox CD Ripper is being rebuilt from the ground up. Currently, the release date for this basic, but working version of VXCR is sometime tomorrow (June 13).

i got Virtual Xbox Cd Ripper to work somehow after error after error. and i see the file shows up in ms dash board and i can hear it play on san andreas

i read alot of the pages, but not quite all of them. (there are just too many).

i just downloaded this program and was excited about it because it sounded much better than using the xbox music mixer program to do this. im running windows xp sp2 and avalaunch on my xbox. i have no problem connecting to the xbox and it finds my soundtrack that i currently have on the xbox. however, only 42 of the songs show up in the list. i currently have only 1 soundtrack on my xbox and there are 500 songs in it, which is the maximum size you can make one. i wanted to use this program to remove some of the older songs, so i could add some of my newer ones. i'd just make a new soundtrack, but it is a pain when you have to switch to a different soundtrack in a game. so this works pretty well, except for those few games that only see the first 100 songs in the soundtrack.

anyway, any ideas why only 42 of the 500 songs show up?

This isn't a bug, but I figured I'd post it here rather than email you.

I don't have a cable to connect my FTP and Xbox. When I want to copy files, I usually burn them to DVD-R/W and copy them via Boxplorer (a file manager). This works out pretty fine for me.

I downloaded your software thinking I could convert my mp3s to wma, then burn them on a DVD, then copy them on my Xbox from that DVD. However, VXCR doesn't let me do anything unless there's an FTP connection between the Xbox and PC.

I could get an mp3-to-wma converter, but without a way to edit ST.DB, it's pointless to copy wma's to the Xbox. Is there anything I can do, or another software you could recommend, that would let me do this?

To recapitulate: I'd like to convert my mp3s to wmas and transfer them to the Xbox without using an FTP connection. I want to do it by copying files off a DVD-RW.

Thanks.

No offence to the creator, but i would suggest no one uses this program untill a ton of bugs are fixed. I read the program is being re-written, that's still in progress right?

I have version 0.0.6.1

This program just killed my Soundtrack collection on my xbox. It wrote over most of my music, and put stuff in the wrong folder, and made multiple copies of my topmost file.

If it were working, this program would be great, but My DVD drive is dead, and now I only have 4 working sound tracks, but they have no titles.

Good work, however i wish there were a warning that it would overwrite my stuff.

Problem with change directory error.

Hi,

I have the new virtual CD ripper and it's been working perfect for a couple of weeks.

Last night I was trying to upload and convert a few more albums to my box but it halted on the first track with an error saying 'cannot change directory' (Or something like that, I'm at work now and can't remember the exact phrase).

It all started when I tried to remove a couple of albums using the V CD ripper.
They are still there on the box, but now cannot be played.

I also cannot remove these albums on either the xbmc or ms dash.

When I now add a new soundtrack and start to upload, it supposeldy uploads the first track then comes the above error.

When FTP'ing to the box I can see the folders that have 1 track in and have deleted them physically from the box, but they are still shown in the list of albums, and yet still can't dlete them from the box using xbmc or ms dash.

Do I need to edit/delete the ST.DB file???

I love Virtual CD ripper, what a program, but what has happened??

Please help as I'm getting very bored with the couple of working soundtracks I have left. It's affecting my Forza driving!!!

THX in advance to all you V CD ripper wizards.

Cheers

Im getting an error where it hangs up at the end of converting certain songs to WMA.

this is what it says in the error file
ConvertToWMA, Run-time Error 9: Subscript out of range (1000009)

and sometimes it will upload the first 3-4 songs to the wrong soundtrack.

I forgot to add that I'm running XP Pro x64 as a dual-boot with Win2000, which runs the app and gives me no connection problems. However, when I go to encode and upload the files that I want to use, it gives me an error that it can't find basswma.dll when I can see it sitting in the VXCR directory. What gives? HEre's the error that it reports under Win2000:

CODE
ConvertToWMA, Run-time Error 53: File not found: basswma.dll (1000053)

I have no earthly idea why this is doing this. Perhaps someone more knowledgable with this app than I am can answer that... Hopefully... smile.gif

Thanks in davance for any help you can offer.

This application is no longer in development, I and someone else have started a new program like this, but using .NET framework. Check out the Xbox Soundtrack Manager thread in this forum.

I really love the idea of this program, but right now I'm finding it to be quite buggy.

Here's what I've experienced so far:
-No matter what, the first six songs I upload to the XBox always appear in MSDash as "!", and they're all the same song.
-If I rip a CD using WMP, then explore the folder using the program, it says something about "*Incorrect ID3 Tag!*" or something.
-Exploring in My Computer, then going to the drive the CD is in gives me an "Error code : 17" every time.
-I'm not sure if it's supposed to grab ID3 info off the internet or not, but every time I get into the CD drive, it just says "Track 1, Track 2", etc.
-If there is a space in my naming of a directory, it says "Error Creating Directory ######", ######, being some long number.
-I cannot delete songs or directories, just make a new playlist.
-From my experience FTPing over to the XBox, making a new playlist does not delete old files, it simply refreshes the playlist, still storing all the old files.
-There are quite a few options not available for selection in the settings menu.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. If any of these are user error, please let me know and I will rectify them, because I love this program, it just doesn't love me back. wink.gif The first six songs thing is my main issue, the rest are minor issues.
