I have found bits and pieces of information on running .CHD games with MAMEdOX. From what I understand, you must have a zipped copy of the game in the Roms folder, and then another UNzipped copy in the hdimages folder. Must the game really be there in two different spots? This is especially annoying for the much larger games.

So I follow the instructions above, and MAME recognizes the rom. Problem is that the rom loads up until the last little bit and then tells me there are missing parts and the game cannot be run. This has happened on EVERY .chd game I have tried so far. Is there another setting that must be tweaked, or am I just getting incomplete .chd files?

So far I have tried Area 51, California Speed, and San Francisco Rush. I am about to try Simpsons Bowling. Someone shed some light on this please.

you dont need 2 copies of the chd, you need 1 chd and 1 zipped romset for the game to be complete.
so thats what you are missing, the zipped romset of the game.

romset goes in the roms folder,
and the chd goes in the hdimages folder,

oh yeah, also dont complain when it runs incredibly slow,
xbox just isnt fast enough to run most chd's.

san fran isn't running yet in current mame, area 51 crawls on xbox and i believe cali speed is in the same boat as rush.

best to avoid chd's for xbox sake wink.gif

OK, I completely understand that .chd's aren't a good idea, but I'd still like to tinker. You say I need a .chd AND a zipped romset. I have no trouble finding .chd's, but where do I get the romset? Is it extracted from the .chd or something? Someone please tell me how to create these.

go to ebay and find the arcade cabinet of the game you want to play,
then tear it apart and throw away everything
(even the included harddrive since you allready have the chd)
then make a copy of the pcb and zip it up.

there ya go.

or just find a place that distributes mame romsets and get the romset from there.
