I've just put the chip in my friends xbox, and when we boot it up, the xbox shorts out (3 times then stays on, like a short always does) and then FRAGs. when unscrewed, the box boots normally. is this a problem of a bad d0 connection?
Silentscream__
No, that means a good d0 connections normally.. Flash the chip with a bios and you should be good to go.
Checkered Marquis
how exactly does one properly flash this motherfucking chip. ive gone through the program, it seems to run everything fine, doing the flashing 1k, 2k, 3k, up up up, and even verifies, but the damn thing still never boots right.
Silentscream__
What bios did you use?
Checkered Marquis
the newest xecuter, 5032 or some such, dont have the file on hand to confirm. i made sure to use the "old" version, as the box we're modding is a 1.0.

1.0s are particularly hard to get aligned properly - back when I used to use these chips, I once spent about 3 hours aligning a chip on a 1.0 box.
The only solutions is really to keep re-aligning. If you are able to, remove the solder from the LPC holes - this helps align the points easily. The connection at the d0 point is also likely to be bad, because the LPC solder keeps the chip slightly higher off the board.

All I can say is keep trying. sad.gif

is there any reason the box should keep fragging even after we've flashed it though? we've done all but fill every bank with the same bios, only because i can't quite figure out how to make a 2meg bios file with x2bm. and that aside, we made sure the bank switches were set correctly.

Have you got the switches set right?
Checkered Marquis
ha, yeah, edit up above ^ im talking with my friend through aim to make sure he hasnt fucked up any switch positions, but the last time i tried personally im fairly certain i had them set right. i'm going to shit myself if this is in fact the only problem.

Are you able to try with an older, more stable version of the X2 bios - 4983?

Also check for simple mistakes, like the black and yellow wires in the wrong sockets, or anything else you can think of.

It looks we have the same problem.

I'm trying to chip a 1.4 one. It doesn't mind if I use the wire, popogin or pinheader install. It frags. (it works perfectly without the modchip)

The same modchip works flawlessly in a 1.0 xbox.

Is there any know issue with xbox 1.4 and a xbit 1.5 combination?
