So the xbox360 is watercooled, well the cpu is. Now does MS expect us to re fill the watercool system or will it like never drain or dry up?
chilin_dude
I believe it isn't actual normal water, however I could be wrong.
It never needs topping up.

There's No 100% Confirmation On That Some People Are Saying That Is Uses A Double Intake.

I defenetly dont see M$ requiring a refill... sombody said it was liquid metal... thats myguess.. they are using it now to cool the X850 core from the OEM Saphire.

sleeping.gif I think is just water inside the heatsink.
Sord_Fish
from what has been said its heat pipes.

not 100% sure but i think its a sealed unit with water in the pipes that heats up turns into a gas and then cool back to water.

good thing about this is that it still goes on till the water returns to room temp.
appleguru
Yeah, I'm doubting you'll need to replace it ever.. It'll be like the liquid cooling in the current top end power mac g5s.. Completely sealed and never needs to be replaced.
kezor
wow it would suck if it leaked out

That pretty much answers the question.

the sega dreamcast had water cooling and a small fan. you would not need to ever "add water" as the tubing and heat exchanger(heat sink) are a sealed system. in other words, no way for the water to evaporate.
xenocyde
you dont use regular water for water cooling. you use a coolant
Twasi
You can use water, coolant, liquid metal and alot of other things, it just depends on how much heat absorbtion you need.
Deftech
well seeing as Ati and Sapphire are in bed together, and Ati and MS are working together, I think the cooling will resemble what Sapphires Radeon cards use.

Yeah, it uses heatpipes. There is no way they fit the radiator and reservoir in there.

On the subject of refilling, Intel is about to release a water cooling kit that requires NO refilling. The water loss is extremely minimal over many years.

I don't think that it will be cooled with a heat pipe. Heat pipes are a really bad way to cool a pc with only one processor let alone three. I think that maybe with the two fans ontop of the pipe it might help but still I think they might have used a hybrid.

Here's some bad pics of the 360's MB see if any of you guys can figure it out(looks like there is a small water block on it):

Also a bit off topic here but, my friend who likes to play pc games said that he heard that the 360 would be nitrogen cooled and I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. biggrin.gif

Nitrogen cooled wtf? That would freeze the CPU!
WeeFatMan
i dont think M$ would like people opening up thier systems....so i dont think you will have to replace any water...

That's the idea:

That's why I think that it is a hybrid of water pipes and water cooling. The fans would cool the top of the water pipe thus compensating for the poor cooling of a water pipe.

You do not need to refill the water its heat sink solution.

I dont think it loses water at all unless there's a tiny leak in a fitting or something. But sony isnt making the 360 so we're fine.
