@King, not sure how different it is/was for mod chips, but on a Softmod it's as simple as FTP'ing some directories and files (once your mod is working right).

I can write up a thing for XDK/Ndure on a softmod this weekend.

By the way, I did get around to doing the XDK instead of waiting and it works perfect... (well, except a small /F/ issue I'm having that I can't figure out.

I dunno it worked fine on my 1.6. I will ask the testers with the problems for their kernels

I am following thie guide and have made the bootabel cd with Ndure for use with xboxhdm.

I am using hotswap conncection with my pc. When i boot up Xboxhdm I start "Xbrowser" to brows to /CD/Ndure and run the ndure file. The program start and i choose option 2 "completely erases C drive and copy ndure files"
Everything seems okey, I eveen got the message all ok, but c drive has not been erased and nothing copied to the xbox.

I am sure I ´m doing something obvious wrong since all I´ve learned about xbox, I´ve learned the last month here on this forum

I was thinking, that maybe I shouldn´t run ndure from Xbrowser but i didn´t found a another way

does option "1" work?.. both option are besically the same just option "1" copies the files one by one manually.. try that.. and running from xbrowser or running from command line will give you the same result..

@krayzie.. do they have eeprom.bin in virtual eeprom directory?.. I suspect nkpatcher read date from virtual eeprom and tries to fix the clock.. I cannt test this since this doesnt happend to me.. Ialso modded few 5838 NTSC colsoles and none gave me any problem..

Maybe I have made the cd wrong? this is how I did it...
* I extracted SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.6_FINAL.exe with cxboxtool
* Then I run the Ndure 3.0 setup with retail settings + xboxhdm installer.
As destination I used my newly extraced slayers, the folder before C
*Copied the Ndure folder to the \xboxhdm\linux folder and made a image from it
Burned as image

weired it has nothing to do with update.xbe.. in xbrowser, what do you see in your C and E drive?.. are they unchanged?..

and for c folder in slayers.. what folder did you choose?.. dash files rae in System/ALL/C folder..

kingroach I'd first like to say thx for the kickass installer. Everything went fine but there were problems along the way that I think you need to know about.

I'm positive that I compiled the iso properly and there may be a chance that your script is crippled.
The reason I say this is because when I used option 4 to back up the C drive. I'd get a error that I can't remember off the top of my head but it was a syntax error. Maybe something like object not found....I'll post a picture tomorrow, it's 1:48 in the morning.
Also option number 2 did not work. I kept using it until I realised it was fuxored. It appeared as if parts of the script were exposed on the screen. I'd see echo commands and other things that I'm pretty sure shouldn't be there besides step 1 of 1 complete step 2 of 2 complete etc. etc.
It was obviouse that step 2 was crippled because it didn't swipe my c drive and over write it. I still had my same crap on there. I got the installer from xbins btw.

So what I did was swipe the c drive with xboxhdm, then dump the C: drive that I put on Xboxhdm from Slayers and use option 1. Which is to patch the drive.

I do have 1 very basic questions though.

Everything appeared to go off without a hitch. After I figured out the script problems. I locked the hard drive and the system booted great. I boot the msdashboard perfectly when using the eject button and when I boot with the power button it goes straight to the unleash-x dashboard.
Here's the question.
I'm selling this xbox to my 16 year old brother and he reaaaly wants to play online with Halo 2 so
I would really appreciate your input.
If I boot my game using the eject button which appears to deactivate the softmod and load a retail game that way he should be able to play on Live right?

Also if you could you direct me to a sticky that informs me of things not to do to my Xbox that would help me not get banned from Live I would very much appreciate that.

P.S. I didn't install the UDDAE exploit because I didn't know if I needed it.



your not alone....read my above post. I wasn't able to use option 2 either. It happened exactly like you so here was my solution. I was guessing option 2 is used to delete any files in the c drive that live may pick up on (I don't know) so he created option 2 to format the drive and then install ndure. So what I did to substituate that method was "create a xbox hd from scratch" using xboxhdm.
Then once it recreates my c drive then I use option 1 in ndure.

will this fix my error 21 prob?

kgonepostl,.. yah I saw that yesterday whn I used the script yesterday.. The script is actually fine.. Wehn I last compiled Ndure 3.0 in my computer, I used notepad to see if everyting is alright and when I saved the script, notepad fuckedup formatting in script.. I always use linux to make and test the script and I paid the penalty just when I used windows.. .. I will issue a fix asap..


as for live.. yes eject button deactivates the mod and you can go live.. you can also go live with coldbooting.. I dont think there is any sticky for not getting banned because nobody got banned.. and when mod is active you wont be able to go to live so that will prevent possibility of getting banned with modded xbox.

This will but you should always fix error 21 with a fresh C drive files from Slayers disk or from your backup.

I used xboxhdm to format and build up a new C drive, then used the Ndure and Option 1 but I still get the same message:

I wonder if some of my files on the E drive can make some problem for me. There are still som files there after the previous softmod. I have no idea of what way it has been modded.
After I used option 1 on the Ndure som files have been copied to my C drive as shown below.
Maybe if I format my E drive as well it will work but dont know if thats a smart thing to do. I have got my hardisk key and som other useful information from one of the EEPROMBa files, so I guess it´s safe since it dosent work anyway.

It seems like you were doin it correct before if you used option 1 in Xboxhdm and when it asked if you want to dump your C: drive you should say yes because it will look in Xboxhdm/C:/ and dump what's in that folder. If it doesn't dump anything like it should I'd suggest you check the contents of your disc and see if there is in fact anything in Xboxhdm/C:/

I did the same procedure only now I aswered Yes to copy the files from the CD. I testet the Xbox on the Tv before making the Ndure install and it worked. It booted with a UNLEASH dash and I have my F drive intact so i tested som games and it works pefectly.

Now I am pretty newbe to all this but how do I get my movies to work? Only way to browse for files is to use "File Explorer" but cant get the movies to run from there. Shouldn´t there be any program in the apps folder?

Hotswapped my xbox one more time and made the final Ndure install with option 1 and this time it all went ok

but I still dont got any programs in the apps folder or cant find any way to see my movies

Now i can get a connection with my xbox useing ftp so maybe I can just download Xbox Mediacenter and install it with Qwix and this will fix my problem. be great if anyone can confirm this

Kingroach I got a problem. I tried booting my retail splinter cell to go on live and create an account and it kicked me back to the msdash. I tried coldbooting and it did the same thing.

Am I suppose to create my xbox live before I softmod it and do something after for this to work or is something wrong.....Man I thought everything was perfect but I suppose it's back to the drawing board.

Also I don't know if this matters but I didn't check the UDDAE checkbox in the ndure installer for pc. I have no idea if this matters but if it does let me know. I really want to get my brother on live. I was able to connect to try to make an account when I had my virgin C:\ dash with no softmod. Now it just kicks me to the dash when i try to make an account with splinter cell.

@sulingen, you cannt view movies with unleashx.. you need XBMC for that.. and you nee dto ftp that in your xbox.. for FTP, you need to connect xbox with pc with a network cable.. there is networking tutorial in xbox-scene tutorial section.. check them out..

@kgonepostl, yes you are supposed to create a xbox live account before you softmod.. But its no big problem.. you can just place a file called boot1.bin in E:\ drive. Then turn on your xbox with eject button and xbox will boot into xbox live console.. for there you can make a live account.. after that.. just delete boot1.bin from E:\ drive and xbox will boot as normal to MS dash..

as for boot.bin, you can rename any file into boot.bin and place it into E:\ drive.. Normally XBL console is turned off because it doesnt work with Ndure softmod.

My appologies kingroach. I did read something about the .bin file and that it doesn't have to be any certain size. I just don't remember where i read it or what specifically it applied to. Thank you for your patience once again kingroach.

Is the "Virtual disc" function removed from Version 3 installation?

With version 2.1 I am able to ftp an .iso file to xbox and use a special default.xbe to start the game but with version 3 installation I can't do this any longer. I managed to solve the issue by copying the bios.xbe of Version 2.1 back but then I lost the ability to boot to retail mode.

BTW, is there any easy way to edit the contents of shadowc.img file?

I did this to a friend of a friend's xbox and apparently the first time he powered it up he got the UnleashX dashboard and now all he can get is the XBL dash when he uses the eject button. When he uses the power button... he gets a black screen, a funny noise (just for a few seconds) and the eject button light is yellow/orange.

Obviosly, its not a good thing that he can't get to UnleashX dashboard... any ideas would be great.

He is very adament that he WAS able to get to the UnleashX dashboard... but then after returning was NOT able to and was greeted by the blank screen and orange eject button.

(btw: if it matters he only has the yellow/white RCA cables plugged in... not the red)

I did the UDDAE or whatever it is .... and then the xbox was UNplugged for 2/3 hours probably... hopefully thats not the cause because the guy and his xbox live a ways from my house and I really don't want to have to have him bring it back or something

JimmyGoon, change the Xbox's time (via the MS dash) and see if that fixes it.

If not then, if you didn't choose the xonlinedash console install option, try triggering the UDDAE (from the MS dash) to launch the softmod instead...

to get retail more working with Ndure 2.1 bios, just rename C:\xb0xdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe and you will be able to boot msdash with eject.

I believe that your friend's unleashx dash is somehow messed up.. you can still boot to Ms dash with eject button so that means Nkpatcher is working and you get Orange LED with power button which also means nkpatcher is working.. boot any boot disk with ftp access and copy unleashx dash in E:\dash\ folder.. I believe theres something happened with unleashx because if the dash was missing then Nkpatcher would boot into evox in rescue mode..

grr.... that sucks. do you think theres any chance that the FTP portion is running? >_< thanks for all the help... I will have hm acquire a SC disk and try it out

All the iso files on my XBOX HD are less than 4GB and they are untouched during the upgrade from version 2.1 to version 3, so it shouldn't be the issue of the ISOs size.

Hey guys. I checked and I had him replace the UnleashX folder (E:/dash/) and also had him rename the folder and AGAIN

it comes up with the yellow/orange light and no dashboard.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS PLEASE TELL ME. I'm very very desperate. He has FTP access through Splinter Cell so if its something relativly minor he can fix it so bring it on.

Is there a possibility that Nkpatcher is having some kind of problem?

Oops, my bad, "XBL dash" hadn't sunk-in and I was thinking the regular dash was eject-booting!

If the MS dash is still in the real-C then renaming (or deleting) /E/boot1.bin would switch to using it instead...

Its very unlikely that its nkpatcher issue but for being safe.. create another installation the installer and just copy bios.xbe to C:\bios.xbe and dash folder to E:\dash\ and also ndts folder to E:\.. and see what happens..

ahhh >_< if he does I'll probably just Slayer it and then use Krayzie's installer >_< but for now I will continue the struggle... grrr...

that is a possible fix.. tell him to return xbox to stock and remod it again.. Krazye's 1.1 has been released and thats preety noob proof so your friend could do that himself.. Otherwise I belive the mod is working correctly since all dual boot options are working..

To change the Xbox's time and see if that fixes it, like I said originally.

The reason being, from what you said originally, the capacitor likely drained so maybe{?} the new Nkpatcher time setting feature is involved somehow.

the problem with that is... I have no idea what all the NDURE PC INSTALLER puts on there so I don't know what to tell him to delete. Further more I'm not prepared to torrent the entire Slayers Disc.... take out the C drive... zip it, upload it to my website and then have him download it >_<. So I'm trying to prevent that if at all possible.

I'll have him change the time tonight by delete eboot1.bin or whatever its called and then going to MS Dash. If that doesn't work I'll just have him bring it back.

WHOA. He renamed boot1.bin and got him back to the MS Dash. He got to the dash.... fixed the time (it was only off a year) and then waalaa... UnleashX works!!

He copied some directories to the E:\ drive and rebooted and now it doesn't work.

It starts up and freezes at "UnleashX" and IT FREEZES ... and the yellow eject light is on

THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS! Any ideas now. He checked the clock (again...) and nothing.

EDIT THAT: He checked EVERY setting and its all there.

NKpatcher-11 could be buggy.. and Ndure installer is using nkpatcher 11.. But I am not sure about bugs.. Nkpatcher 11 is running in all my mechines fine.. Krazy's beta test he also mentions problems in some boxes.. But he also never got any problems in his boxes. so nkpatcher could be the cause of problems since it happens to happen at random boxes..

if possible , tell him to replace unleashx dash with any other dash ( ava/evox).. if that doesnt do then replace the bios in C:\folder with the bios from Ndure 2.1 which is using NKpatcher 10..but if you do that you wont be able to switch xonlinedash/msdash..

other idea would be get the bios.xbe from ndure 2.1 and replace it in the C:\bios\ folder.. and rename C:\xb0xdash.xbe to C:\msxboxdash.xbe to have dual boot.. but xbox live dash wont work.

he doesn't care about that. I'm just gonna grab the ndure 2.1 c:\bios\xbe and then rename xb0xdash to msxboxdash

and that should get me (what kind of) dual boot? what about that boot1.bin file on the E drive?

that would give you normal dual boot.. boot with power button = nkpatcher/dash. Boot with eject button = Ms dash.. E:\boot1.bin will have no effect..

EDIT: same thing. stuck screen. rename xb0xdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe and then I renamed the C:\bios folder to C:\--bios and then I added the bios folder from ndure-2.1

same stuck screen but this time the eject button is green (but thats because of the old nkpatcher in 2.1 and the fact that it doesn't change the eject light)

well.. then it seems it might be dash issue.. ( very strange/unlikely).. did you replace the dash yet?.. unleashx could get stuck if there is no config.xml file there.. try getting a basic dash like evox and see what happens..

hey kingroach i'm trying to compile my own nkpatcher for your installer and am having problems with the config file. I was wondering if you could post the config file you use with your installer so I could see where I'm screwing up.

basically when I enabled a shadow c my xbox would hang at boot but when I used that (which has the exact same 3 lines for shadow c) it booted fine. I must have screwed up somewhere else.

Good day to you all, and first off thanks to kingroach for the NDURE package.

I'm totally new to softmodding and was surprised to learn about these exploits.

NDURE for xboxhdm worked very well for me but I'm not sure I did everything correctly.

This is what I did:

1. Executed NDURE 3.0 for PC and installed it on an "EMPTY" folder on my PC (no retail dash)
2. I went for the custom install and check "ALL" the boxes except for "Create xboxhdm installer".
3. I then copied the C and E folder to the linux folder of xboxhdm and created the .iso image.
4. Booted xboxhdm and run xboxhd, recreated the partitions and formated C and E on /dev/hda.
5. I then fired xbrowser and copied the CD's C and E folder files to the appropriate C and E partitions.
6. Checked everything, locked HD and reinstalled HD on xbox.
7. UnleashX boots and everything looks fine except that I dont get any sound (maybe because of the missing Audio folder/files).

Problem is I cannot boot to msdash. I checked C drive using file manager but it has no files in it (maybe its shadow C). Tried other posts suggestion to copy retail xboxdash.xbe to shadowc(?) but I got error code 3, (cannot create etc). Also tried deleting shadowc.img but went to a blank screen after my reboot. But idea.

No choice now but to redo everything this evening.

Now this is what I am planning to do.

1. Copy "ALL files" except settings_adoc.xip of my original retail C drive to a E:\NDURE\C folder on my PC.
2. Do I need to delete the fonts folder or only its contents?
3. Run ndure and point it to E:\NDURE still with full option.
4. Remake the xboxhdm .iso image and add the new files from NDURE.
5. Boot xboxhdm, repartition and reformat xbox HD and copy C and E of CD to HD using xbrowser.

Hope someone can tell me if my procedure is correct especially with the fonts folder.
Do I need to copy or rename my original xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe and put it in C:\

Also, what does "copy a retail dash to shadowc" mean? Does it mean original files to virtual C or to the shadowc folder?

This is the correct steps.. You dont need to delete settings_adoc.xip yourself and dont need to delete fonts folder.. the installer will do that for you.. but no harm if you deleted yourself.. now you dont need to manually copy files with xbrowser.. if you used option "1" in xboxhdm optionit will recreate the HD using all C and E drive files.. However instead of going through all the troubles.. Just go to "ndts" folder in E:\ drive.. ( if you selected add Ndure toolset).. then just run default.xbe.. it will disable shadowc and then you can copy appropriate files for MS dash.. files needed for Ms dash are:

Audio
fonts
xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash

I have this exact problem... no audio and no ms dash.
my steps were:

1) create ndure with all options (including xboxhdm)
2) copied the ndure to /linux in xboxhdm
3) boot with cd and selected build new drive from scratch.(using a new 200GB)
4) it built the fat x, and formatted, then asked if I wanted to rebuild... i said yes, and it said it found files in /ndure/c I dont know what is in there!
5) then started xbrowser and actually ran ndure executable... chose option 2 (replace C with ndure)
6) locked drive and put in in xbox.

unleash X works fine... but no ms dash via tray boot I get error 21, and if i try to use ms dash from unleashX I get file not found. Also have no audio in unleashX.

Thanks kingroach, finally got ndure to work including the tray state feature. can now revert back to retail dash with eject button.

only problem now is that i have no audio with defaut dash (maybe because of the blank shadowc.img). is there any way to make a shadowc.img of the retails files? probably by linux dd command or any equivalent tool so that my virtual c will not appear empty.

kadepollack, i had the same problem before, as it turned out i did not include the retail dash files before running ndure installer. try to put it in a directory in your pc as stated in the readme and run ndure on it.

also, i find it easier to transfer files using xbrowser rather than the ndure script. no offense kingroach, the script works fine but i used xbrowser so that i can check if all the files were copied exactly as how they should be.
