I am running Gentoox on a softmodded xbox with a stock HD.

Hey, I ran the terminal, and did emerge limewire.

I now have a directory with all the files of limewire. My question is, how do I run it now? Whenever I double click it in the filemanager it says run with, so I just press OK. It just sits there and does nothing.

Am I doing something wrong? I am not exactly linux litterate, and dont know how to do most basic operations. Can someone tell me how to run limewire? Thanks.

you need to run it from the terminal, cd to the directory it is installed in and run

./LimeWire

Post your error messages, it will probably whine about java... did emerge install java for you?? does emerge even include java since it is not open-source?

Yes, dont you know Gentoo is the smartest portage system everywhere. It looks at your hardware profile (x86 PPC SPARC s/390 etc.) then it looks for the software you want in the gentoo repository, then it emerge s it and all of its sources needed for it to run.

What would I type to have it emerge java? Emerge java? I havent even tested running it, dont know how.

I am VERY surprised at how smart it is. Just typed emerge limewire, it went out and found it and installed it. Very impressive.

open a terminal,

type in updatedb
then type in
locate limewire
it will give you a path to LimeWire
type in cd /path/to/limewire
then type in ./LimeWire
if it launchs you are good to go, if it failes copy and past what it says into a post and reply

It says permission denied, but I am logged in as root.
