Why not ask at Best Buy?

Game stores such as EB games and Gamestop are already taking pre-order's I'm not sure about best buy but if the store takes pre-orders they probably have already started. Call them and if they do they may be out of first shipments. If that's the case two major chains that don't take pre-orders are walmart and Fry's electronics. So if you can't get a pre-order you can always wait infront of one of those stores at midnight to get one.

Bestbuy does not take pre orders.

Ebgames is,,,
50$ minimum on hardware
5$ minimum on games
Although when they come out you will likly only be able to buy a package so idk how everything will work with the pre-orders.

Meijer does not take preorders either. They do a midnight drawing (basically everyone who shows up puts their name in a hat and a few lucky ones actually get the thing) to prevent situations where they have gamers in line for hours that day.
I got my Xbox on release day that way, and I plan to do the same for my 360. There's enough places in town that don't preorder so I can just run from one store to the next.

I just returned from the local EB Games and they said they were out of spots on the pre-order. I too pre-order Halo2 from Best Buy, so I am hoping I can get a hold of someone there to see if they are doing the same thing with Xbox 360.

i would preorder from gamestop if you can, i dont trust ebgames, my friend preordered halo2 there and the store where he preorderd it went out of business and he couldnt get his money back they didnt even call him telling they were going out of business.
something wierd about gamestop is if you preorder a games its 5+ the cost of the game, if you preorder a console its just 50+the rest of the cost of the console, so the 50 goes towards the console and not just a preorder

If best Buy won't take pre-orders or is out your best bet is to find a walmart and get there around mid night, wal-mart normaly gets alot of consoles and doesnt take pre-orders and doesn't sell bundles so you won't be stuck buying a game you don't want. If you don't have a wal-mart, fry's will have them since they don't take pre-orders and if you don't have a fry's just call around to any large chain store that has an electronics section and ask them about pre-orders and if they are getting any in.

I remember EB started taking pre-orders the day right after the MTV Special, tis when I went and pre-ordered. Just wait at midnight or something at a major store like bestbuy and you should be fine.

As far as I know they take game pre-orders but not console pre-orders. That is my experience ( when i was a sony zombie I pre-ordered vice city there, but had to wait in line at the console launch)

I asked a guy at Best But yesterday and he said that he thinnks there will be pre-orders starting in Sept, simular to Halo2's. aykfc1 I never said anything about a pre-order not counting toward the price of the mercahdise, I believe you have mistaken what I said for someone else.
Twasi
Jul 4 2005, 08:04 AM
aykfc1, some stores do indeed keep your pre-order and not count it towards the console or game so it's price of the console + pre-order money. Not many but a few game stores and chain outlets do this.

Two guaranteed at EBGames (in the first shipment of 12), plus another sorta guaranteed at GameStop, where they had no limits whatsoever on the number. Which means there are gonna be quite a few disappointed GameStop customers come November, when they only get like 25 in to divide the few hundred preorders.

Reserving my 3rd at EBGames tomorrow, where they just called and said MS upped them to 20 on the initial shipment.

Got mine pre-ordered. The guy at the shop (Video Games Heaven, Australia) said he didn't know a confirmed price, but it could be $1000+. Sounds a bit off to me, but even if it was it'd be worth it just for Perfect Dark Zero.

I am having everyone pay $315.00 that is with Priority shipping via USPS. If customers want to speed up the shipment they can pay the actual price of the over night or what ever method they choose. Also, you can pay it off in parts or pay it all at once. We will be receiving the Xbox 360's a week early and ship them out that next morning. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

For the most part Best Buy avoids pre-orders on consoles, you're best bet are
A. EB Games, Game Crazy, Game Stop etc.
B. Small indepedent game stores in your area

actually if I were you I'd wait for Toy's R Us to start taking pre-orders...
Other stores are already taking them but they've got so many pre-orders you're pretty much guaranteed NOT to get one on release day if you pre-order with them.
Toys R Us is waiting for the official announcement of the price and release date before they start taking pre-orders... so they haven't taken any yet (and you'll probably know when they start when you hear the announcement). Not to mention that Toys R Us will be getting WAY more units than say an EB or Gamestop (simply because they're a larger store).
