Nice tutorial, but the hard part is going to be finding opponents. Also, I'm curious as to how framerate issues affect the gameplay (in the case of PCSXbox). I'm guessing a perfect match between bios, configuration and rom version are required for a playable experience?

By EXACTLY, do you mean the actuall game? do you mean the game on both xbox's must be NAMED EXACTLY THE SAME?? also, by EXACTLY, do you mean, both need to be either .zip or .nes?
Also, can this online playing work for every 2 player nintendo game?
Thank You! :-)

CandieCorpse you are a life saver. Ever since I first tried xports emulators i've always wanted to try netplay, i've tried multiple times to get it to work, and i've asked other people about it countless times, including posting once here on this forum about it...
Finally someone clears it up with screenshots too! I really appreciate it, this is going to make it all the more worthwhile to have a modded xbox.
Thanks again for the great tutorial

By exactly, I mean the same ROM should be used on both machines. Same version, same region, same video format (PAL/NTSC). Just check MD5 or CRCs on the rom itself and make sure they match and you should be good to go, or use only a goodtools named set, then you know you'll be sharing the same stuff on both.

I'm having difficulty connecting to my friends xbox. Could someone please help me? Here's what I've done with no luck.
I'm connected to a wireless router, my friend is connected to a regular router.
I'm the Server.
I enter my Default Gateway IP Address - 192.168.#.#
I enter my Subnet Mask Gateway Address - 255.255.255.0
I enter my XBOX IP Address - 192.168.#.###
I set NetPlay to On
I had my friend do the following
He entered his Default Gateway IP Address - 192.168.#.#
He entered his Subnet Mask Gateway IP Address - 255.255.255.0
He entered his XBOX IP Address - 192.168.#.###
He went into Add Netplay Server, and entered my XBOX IP Address - 192.168.#.###
He set NetPlay to On
Then, I picked TMNT 2, I went to Server, I choose 0, and then it says it's listining for incoming connections.
My friend picks the exact same game, he chooses Client, he selects my XBOX's IP address, and after 10 seconds, it says it could not connect.
What is wrong? I followed everything to the T in this turotrial here. Please help!

Is this LAN only?
No one's said a thing about this, and yet the guide clearly looks like the server is on the same lan as the client. Just set me straight here, can i play this with people outside my connection? I got an idiot in Cali I wanna challenge.

ONLINE PLAY CAN BE DONE!!!! All credit for this work goes to "quall" Thank You quall for all your time and effort into helping us figure this out. Contra was a blast. Once again, quall, from me, and everybody here at xbox-scene, Thank You!! Here it is, how to play online with Xports emulators. This was done with using the latest version of FCEUltra 16. We also used the EXACT ROM, by that I mean, type and name, for example. "contra.nes" That's how we played, we had that setup on both xbox's. Well, enjoy, Thanks quall!!!!
Portmapper:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/pmapper.htmPC SETUP FOR THE HOST:
1. Dial into your router (??? http:\\192.168.0.1)
2. enter your user and password
3. Look for a tab called "DMZ
4. click the enable button, and type in your xbox's ip address (192.168.0.### or whatever it is)
5. I suggest following the client pc setup as well, so either can host.
PC SETUP FOR THE Client:
1. Open Portmapper.
2. Click the "Configure IP" button
3. Click "add"
4. Enter your xbox's IP (192.168.0.###) address and select "allow" in the drop down. Click "OK", the "Done"
5. Click the "Configure Mapping" button
6. Click "add"
7. Enter "8989" for the port.
8. Enter the internet IP of the person that will be hosting. Click ok, then done, and done again.
9. Get your PC IP for later (open command prompt and type "ipconfig". It will print it amongst other things).
XBOX SETUP FOR HOST:
1. Start the emulator and go to network settings.
2. Enter the following:
-SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
-DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.0.1
-DNS (if opted): 0.0.0.0
-XBOX IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.### (or whatever it is)
XBOX SETUP CLIENT:
1. Start the emulator and go to network settings.
2. Enter the following:
-SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
-DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.0.1
-DNS (if opted): 0.0.0.0
-XBOX IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.### (or whatever it is)
3. Then for the server you will connect to, enter your PC's IP that you wrote down earlier (not your internet IP!!).

Hiya guys, nice tut you got here. Only thing I dont get is this PC SETUP FOR THE HOST:
1. Dial into your router (??? http:\\192.168.0.1)
2. enter your user and password
3. Look for a tab called "DMZ
4. click the enable button, and type in your xbox's ip address (192.168.0.### or whatever it is)
5. I suggest following the client pc setup as well, so either can host.
How is this done?
I got everything else sorted just this bit.
Is it true enabling DMZ completely exposes your pc to the internet without a firewall?
Any help appreciated.

Jul 24 2005, 02:48 PM
well, first get into your router which is usually your network address
192.168.0.1 (use internet explorer). It will ask for a username and pass, you either put those in or they were preset in the manual.
Look for a DMZ menu, every router is different so it can be in another tab, sub setting, etc... Mine was in another tab. Then there should be a LAN address text box. Some routers only have the last 3 digits enabled. Well, put in your xbox IP there and click the "enable" button.
This would be a security issue, if your PC's IP was set up for the DMZ. What it does, is instead of the router blocking every unknown connection, it sends it to that IP address.
However, your xbox is pretty limited. Nobody is going to "leet haxor" into your xbox, so no damage will be done. Just make sure it is something high and static, like 192.168.0.159. That way, your PC's will never get assigned that address to be vulnerable, and your xbox will always get the incoming connection (which includes the incoming emulator connection).
This is an easy way that is pretty secure. You could connect into your router and send a specific ip to your xbox, but that would mean that the person you connect to would have to have a static IP, or you would be changing it all the time. The DMX eliminates user erros lol.

It should work for any of the xport emulators as they all have the same netplay capabilities I do believe.
Also I was wondering if it'd be possible to do this and include a pc in the "party" with a pc emulator(i.e. vba and vbax)

Hi, this is something I am also interested in. As almost all emulators on the Xbox are ports of open source emulators from the PC, are they still compatible in netplay? So when I use NeoGenesis or MednafenX-NES, could I netplay with people who use Gens or Mednafen on the PC?
