I need some red LED's, like the ones you use to light up cell phone LCDs (they are incredibly bright, inexpensive, and very, very tiny). Anyone know a site to find these in the US? I've Google searched, but the only sites I found selling these are in the UK, and I don't really want to pay $12 shipping for a $3 - $4 Led purchase and then have to wait for them to ship all the way over here to the states. Thanks.

i dont know about inexpensive, but if you do find some that are cheap, let me know..lol... i'll do the same for you.... right now i been getting mine from the UK or somewhere over there for waaay too much.... about $4 a piece and then theres international shipping costs... too much for me....

The small ones you're talking about are called surface mount LEDs. I've only been able to find them at electronic shops. Here are some places I have shopped at.

Newark InOne - Good prices.

DigiKey - Every electronic component imagineable. ($5 fee for orders less than $20 )

eLED - Great place for all kinds of LEDs. (SMD LED are the small surface mounts)

Bloody hell.. they're twice as big as mine the package I used are 0603 but 1208 will do the job. Unless you can solder to each side of an LED the size of a grain of sugar.. I'd keep away from the 0603 package. If possible look for Toyoda-Gosei (hyper bright) manufacture.. these are the best there are and do the larger case size as well. The prices on eled site are very cheap indeed compared with UK retail prices.

Toyoda-Gosei are made in Japan and sold in the UK for GSM mods.

ordered from eLED....damn those prices are cheap. even with shipping I paid less than I'd pay at local electronics shop and got smaller, brighter, better LEDs. Now my external harddrive's rack's screen (RPM's of fan and Hdd Temp. display on LCD screen, rack also has alarm, programable fan modes as well as a manual fan speed knob) can be backlit red to match both the rack's and my xbox's custom paintjob as well as all my other red LED's I modded my rack and my xbox with. Now to see how fast they ship them to me. Can't wait!
