My Samsung is doing this now too when I press the eject button I hear the gears trying to eject the tray. I press the eject button many time to get the tray open sometime it opens other times it wont even open. I have to poke front with a pin to get it to open. I tried opening the drive and when the DVD drive casing is off the tray opens like normal but when I put the case back on the tray gets stuck again. I don’t want to buy a new Samsung if this one reads my stuff perfectly its just tray.

i have a samsung 616t that acts like this sometimes, it takes a good whack on the top of the drive to get it to open.
Supposedly, the magnets used to hold the tray closed are sometimes too strong for the motor to overcome, and the drive tray gets stuck.
You can replace the original belt with a smaller one (if you have braces the itty bitty rubber bands for those work great) that will get more grip.
