I had an extra v1.6 case, so I decided to mod it, I made the case universal, It's using the stock fan, I put my v1.0 in it (temporarily) because it has an X3 installed in it with a WD 80 GB HDD.

Here is the first pic

Look at the comparison between my first mod and the slim case

I have more planned to the project (both).

nice i like...looks sleek beerchug.gif
bikingjoey
i think it looks good so far. it will be cool when done.
SpikeMage
Pretty clean. Good job.
c0d3_z3r0
Thanks, I still have to move the ports to the left so it's the opposite of my first mod.
I'll have the pics of the HDD mounts tommorrow.

I moved the pics, so here they are again

Here is the HDD mount, I used the dvd tray and cut the sides so it fits the case, then put plexi and screwed it down with the original stock case screws.
(Warning: if you try to make this kind of mount, tape the screws so it doesn't bridge the IDE, when you are screwing the HDD down do it slightly so you don't break your HDD, and don't forget to make a hole on the plexi so the drive doesn't overheat)

I took the pic while the epoxy is still drying.

Good start and its nice to beerchug.gif
c0d3_z3r0
Thanks, Now I have to sand it then go with the bondo to make it look better.
Staple
looks alot better with ports moved and lcd window it was lookin pretty 60s for a minute there beerchug.gif
c0d3_z3r0
I'm probably putting bondo on that hole or adding a fan controller there.
Right now I only got a stock fan on it and it runs perfectly with only one, so I'm still thinking on what I should do with the hole.

question about this case

if you case is modded, how r u going to put movies and mp3s on your harddrive? or backup games
Jameson42
I'm guessing he'll use FTP.
Stratus
Wow, that is one of the better slim cases I've seen.
Good job

uhm.. not to take anything away from his project, but how is this the best slimcase you've seen? he hasn't done anything to it yet, aside from set his controller ports in place..

sorry, no offense there c0d3_z3r0, but i hate these kinda responses... make an original comment with some constructive critisism or something.

someone should try searching the phrase "best one yet" ... i bet you'd get like a thousand results.. laugh.gif

but anyways.. what lcd you planning on there c0d3? and how you gonna mount it?
c0d3_z3r0
If I need to backup games I plug my DVD drive back in.
But If I need to put media (Videos, Music, Pics) I use FTP to do that.

I found This fan controller at Xoxide and I'm thinking on molding it into the case.

Thanks for the compliments!
c0d3_z3r0
Here is a photoshop mockup of what I'm going to do, It's my first photoshop image so don't laugh.
(I know, I suck at photoshop)

EDIT: I haven't added the secret "mod" to the mockup because it's a secret.
Until I reveal it that is.

they sell clocks and teampature gauages for computers...will that have enough room to put that where your puttig your screen? bc i think its pretty bulky
Stratus
Ok, let me re word it: Your Slim case is coming along nicely and is looking very good so far
c0d3_z3r0
Yeah, i think the fan controller is pretty bulky, but I saw that the ony part that I'll use is the front of the controller. the rest is just extra metal so you can mount it on the computer, So I just cut that part off and mold only the front part of the fan controller.

The "mod" that is not shown yet is going to look nice.

Secrets dont make friends smile.gif But hopefully your slim turns out that good. I like the choice of all white. Good luck.
c0d3_z3r0
Thanks, I love white xboxs so...
The only reason I'm not saying is that is has probably never been done before on the xbox.
I don't want to say it so someone doesn't take my Idea and call it theirs...You know what I mean?

But I'll give you guys one hint...
Part of it glows blue.
Jameson42
I've got the same problem... I started my slimbox about a month and a half ago. I'm doing something on it that I've never seen on an xbox before... A new style of lighting. I'm almost done, just need to finish the lighting, secure some things inside the box, clear the jewel, and paint the box... but I don't know when I'll have the money to get paint. And I have no digital camera right now... grr.

Anyway, good luck on your box... I just hope your idea isn't mine. hehe.
c0d3_z3r0
Jameson, I hope we're not doing the same thing lol tongue.gif
Good luck on your slimbox.
c0d3_z3r0
I just finished doing the bondo on my slim case, Here is the pic.

had a ? people r putting the harddrive where the dcd rom is.

where the X is on the case im cutting that uot and putting a plexi glass window. i would like to reverse the motherboard so thats what you see in the window and not the harddrive. is it possible to the motherboard up and pout the harddrive under it and still have the slimcase effect?

is not..
is it possible to turn the motherboard unside down and put the harddrive the same way, just unside down. if so, will that ever hurt the motherboard? if not. why not?

I can't understand what you're saying uhh.gif

Do you want to turn the mobo upside down with HDD too?
If that's what you're saying, It will take alot of modding, but you will probably have some heat issues.
b15ginz
user posted image

i wanna do that to the top.

but instead of seeing the HDD and CDROM i want to see the motherboard.

BUT, i wanna do it in a slimcase mod.
b15ginz
then again...the dimesion of the HDD isnt all that big, you would prolly see most of the motherboard anyway
c0d3_z3r0
Yeah, That is possible, But it will take alot of modding.

whatcha think.

If you do decide to put the mobo on top, don't forget that you're gonna have to cut holes for the A/V port and the ethernet port.

VERY true. didnt thnk about that. im gonna leave it at the bottom. the size of the HDD is small emought o see enough motherboard...
its a cool mod to tackle and graet idea for people who loves the way the boards look...
c0d3_z3r0
I just finished sanding the slim case and my first mod, here is the slim case pic.
I’m also updating my first mod too.

I sprayed filler primer on the front panel to see how it would look like and it ate a little bit of the bondo, now I have to get some spot putty to fix it. mad.gif
(I took this pic on my sister's room be cause it was brighter and it used less flash so you can see the front panel)

? about where you made the cuts.

where the bottom of the dvd rom is... did u cut accross? or did u go down more?

str8 across at the bottom of the dvdrom theres a lie...figure i would just cut there.
haloloser
thats where he cut
c0d3_z3r0
It ate on where I cut, now I have to fix it.
c0d3_z3r0
Bump for comments biggrin.gif

Dude she is lookin nice. How's the paint scheme going to end up black on white like that or are you going to go for a nice metal flake?
c0d3_z3r0
The slim case will be all white with blue leds.
xzphatboizx69
Looking good, I love slims.
c0d3_z3r0
Thanks.
I'm thinking on making another slim after this one.
RvN
If the motherboard does end up showing, this would be awesome assuming you'd put in a window and uv lights:

nateh90
yeah i would definatly take a look at that article. oh and by the way for the guy that making this mo if you still want your dvd drive you should stick an ide and Molex conector on the back thats hat i did for my slimline (Which looks strikingly similar to how yours is gonna) and that works good because the drive isnt permanatly connected. Thanks - Nate
c0d3_z3r0
Here, I fixed the problem, the front panel is pretty smooth, and I already primed it, Now I have to buy the fan controller that I'm mounting on the front panel and mould it into the case, buttons and all.

thanks. that's what i was wondering about.

the fins aren't connected to each other anymore towards the bottom, which is why i wasn't sure, if you (guys) would rather cut out a piece in the middle and glue the lower part back on. guess, that would be a pain, tho.
jiggysmb
I saw this thread yesterday and was inspired to do a slim case. I got it all cut, sanded and ready to paint but I can find the tut for swapping the power button anywhere. Can someone post the link?

Thanks
