Hello,

I was hoping somebody can give me instructions to manually updating unleashx. I get a "file may be corrupt or damaged" message when I try the auto update.

I have downloaded the files, but I do not know where to put them, and I don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks in advance.

try changing your skin to the default then download it through the dash
isaac_24
If that doesn't work, just download it from the usual place and replace unleashx. A search can come up with those instructions.
bsmonkey
yeah download unleashx manually and replace default.xbe and config in your folder where the dashboard is.

That's what I did and it worked great for me!

first, if unleashx is your startup dashboard you have to find the xbe file your xbox start with... just use the file explorer and look .xbe files on your C: Drive... the file may be evox.xbe (or something like that)... then juste execute this file to make sure it will lunch unleashx

after you have find the right file, juste upload the new unleashx to the c: drive with a temp name (evox2.xbe in this example)... after that you can just go again to the file explorer to rename evox.xbe to evox.old and evox2.xbe to evox.xbe then reboot

I also recommand you to switch to the default skin before the renamming process... I also recommand everyone to setup another dashboard (or XBMC) to a shortcut (A,B,X,Y...)... so if someday the dash refuse to start it may save you.

i did exactly what everyone says

and

steveo1978
how was your xbox softmodded? And the 2 files you are trying to replace leave those alone. Try looking for a evoxdash.xbe , a E:\dash\default.xbe or e:\dashboard\default.xbe
JayNich
There is no Default.xbe

I isntalled UnleashX to C:
When I go into the C: Drive all I see is:

fonts
SID
Skins
Config.xml
evoxdash.xbe.
items.xml
xboxdash.xbe

I downloaded UnleashX and the files inside are:

Config.xml
Default.xbe
English.xml
French.xml
German.xml
Spanish.xml
Readme.txt
Unleashx0.39.0528A.nfo
MetallicAtmosphere.zip

What goes where?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Please and thanks!

First identify that you have working .xbes.

It looks as if you used SID so go into Xbox UnleashX > File Manager and click on the E:\drive evoxdash.xbe.

It will (or should) just re-load your current v.543 UnleashX dash. Check just to be certain in the Settings > System > Xbox Info and scroll down to UnleashX. It should say:

Version: 0.37.1218A Build 543 (or whatever your current version is)
Mode: Dashboard
Path: E:\
Phy.Location: \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe

This is the correct location/path your dash is using.

If all is well good that's definitely the .xbe you need to replace and the name you need give your updated version dashboard .xbe.

What isn't clear to me is where your new down-loaded files are located. Are they still on your PC or somewhere as a folder on the Xbox like the E:\drive?

Wherever it is you need to manually get the actual default.xbe file on the E:\drive. Once there click on it to test it and it should load the new version UnleashX dash. Check in the Settings > System etc that it is the new version (it should say Application rather than Dashboard in the Mode status at this stage).

If it doesn't load correctly there could be a problem, maybe that default skin issue others have mentioned and possibly resolved by using the new Config.xml. But don't muck around with that or delete/replace the old Config.xml without advice. I simply don't know enough myself.

But if the default.xbe works you're good to go. The next part is just as others have described. Rename the default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe.and rename, rather than delete, the old version to evoxdash2.xbe and leave it on the E:\drive. Make a note that you've done this in case you ever want to go back.

As for the Config.xml file: your old one should work OK (my one certain did under similar circumstances). It will simply be updated when you enter new settings using your new version UnleashX. But if you're advised to replace that with the one in the folder CHECK that the MS dash .xbe it is set up to use is the same as before and if not change it to where and what your MS dash really is.

As or those other files in the folder unless somebody here says otherwise I don't think you need to worry about any of them. Just leave them in the where they are.

Hope this helps and it should work because it's essentially the same advice I was given here when swapping a v.572 dash back to a v.543 and that worked perfectly.

I absolutely thank you for your reply!

Don't thank me until you've got it working. That's what I want to hear.
