1. Try the link again, it worked for me a second ago, try copying it into the address bar.
2. There will always be the green tint for those games unless you use the softmod version which supposedly fixes the problem (i dont have a softmod so i dont know), I think for some people HD mode doesn't work so they use VGA mode, I don't and never have so dont know how that works.
3. if a monitor can support 720p it will be fine. Here are my various experiences (never cropping). one monitor displayed fine, awesome!!!!, one monitor wouldn't display at all, flickering in and out or not at all. The other will display fine but tear the very top of the image in a weird way, so I just used 480p.
4. My games dont seem darker, I have an xbox v1.0. You could adjust the contrast / brightness i suppose. I also noticed that many computer monitors wont display bright enough in general, maybe that's your problem.
Hope all of these answers help, I haven't been to the board in a while.
note: its funny, I dont like any of the non-working green tint games except KOTOR and Jade Empire, but i've already beaten both a couple times. its as if they dont want me to play them.

Great tut leeloo5, worked fantastic. Yet I have one problem that is making me angry. I have enabled 480 auto on the m$ dash via the hex code edit and if m$ dash works in 480, unleashx is supposed to work in 480 to but it won't let me change it. Any hints from anybody that has got unleashx to work?

try another monitor. not all work, especially lcds. You could also try turning the xbox on and then plugging in your monitor. sometimes this works better.
unleash x: no idea. If you want to use this as a perminant solution and you like unleash x, i dont know what to do. if you just want it for certain situations, you could use XBMC those times.

Please read rhough the whole thread!
Anyways, until now nobody figured out how to manipulate the gpu/ video encoder in order to output RGB instead of YCbCr. For the resolution, there is of course no limitation except for your monitor, assuming you are using a cable in HDTV-mode.
Maybe one day there is someone who can make a hack/bios which will output resolutions like 640x480 and 1080x720 or 960x720?

I have a 1.0 modded Xbox with a Xenium Ice. I was wondering what at the moment is the best, most reliable, most games work, etc...VGA bios for use with the VGA cable. So far I have seen pixel8, TATX, and the iND-BiOS 5001 bios. Are there any newer ones, or better ones available? I'm just looking to get the best

Edit* And X2-5035 I saw somewhere was said to have worked.

1. I use the ind bios 06 since my Hard drive is 120gigs. Sorry, but I can't help you with not picking up the G partition.
2. I also have a 1.0 with Xenium ice and i use the Ind bios 5001 vga patched 06.
3. Any capacitors should work, but i'm not perfectly sure about that. I picked some standard ones up from Radioshack. the cheap ones should be fine, but more expensive ones just allow for higher voltages (which should not occur anyway).
4. I don't know why your games would be green and your dash fine. Unless your games are on the non-working list, there should be no problem. for example Halo 1 and Halo 2 work great for me.
5. For any display problems, it might be good to unplug the monitor cable and replug it in after the game / dash has loaded. this way the monitor is recieving a steady signal that doesn't change around. some monitors are pretty picky.
Note: I'm only someone who sifted through many tutorials I felt were vague and unclear. I only have one setup, a US xbox 1.0 with a Xenium Ice and I can only test so many monitors. I wrote the guide to give people another perspective with what i think are clearer images. I'm sorry if I can't solve your problems, I hope you guys understand and good luck.

Been trying to find an answer on something......
I'm assured I'm getting the best pic I can with my setup. hd pack with the components to a component - vga cable. high res options enabled using enigma. I can see an improvement when I use a 720p game.
So my question is - why make the vga mod? Is the mod cheaper? Or does it give you something that my setup won't? Will something like x2vga give me anything i don't have now?

you have SoG (sync on green).... YAY. so no, you can use your setup fine, no difference. I dont have any monitors with SoG, so i need to incorperate a sync splitter circuit. Only benefit to x2vga is that you can play some games like Jade Empire without the green tint.

I wouldn't say that's the only benefit. I think there are a couple other major benefits of the X2VGA. First, it doesn't need a hacked BIOS so that means you can still play on Live / unmodded just fine. I think another advantage it has is the great 720p, 1080i support. Many (not all) monitors will give a purple tint with homemade cables and a VGA BIOS.

I'm not sure where this info belongs so I'm sorry if it's OT... The new Splinter Cell: Double Agent resets the GPU properly so unlike previous Splinter Cell games (1 2 and 3 all have the green problem) the colours are all fine with the VGA bios and cable hack. Good news for stealth co-op fans who run system link off a couple of xboxes...

My complete cable with the sync splitter cost around AU$13. The annoying thing is the LM1881N cost me AU$12

. But some people rekon you can get the LM1881N for about $3 so that I think would make it a hell of a lot cheaper then your setup.
Also I would recommend the NKPatcher vga method even for people with chips. have your xbox activate the softmod when you switch the chip off i think

I wanna thank leeloo5 and especially FrostyTheSnowman for this perfect picture

1. Happy it works
2. Prices all pretty much depend on ebay at the time for me, since that's where I got the parts, for me it was about $20 total.
3. My modchip does not like softmoding plus I like being able to use the dashboard. I know I can use UIX (which I setup for my friends softmods), but I like the MS dash for 480p enabling and just to have it.
4. exams are often crappy.

Which supports SOG, which doesn't?
What can I do to fix it?

Can this work with a soft modded XBox using AUto Installer Deluxe 3 and XBMC 2.01?
Are there any commercial product that use the LM1881.
I was thinking of desoldering it if it comes in a popular electronic I might have knocking around.

Hey guys,
after reading these interesting threads about the whole VGA thing, I just decided to build such a cable and try it by my own. So now after a long time of soldering its done, but I can't get no picture on one of my 3 screens except the flubber animation. I used the LM1881N and the other standart parts as in the guide...
The only way to get a picture is at the moment to switch the cable to standart VGA mode and after the flubber animation with a green tint its over...black screen. All other switch positions like HD or AV didn't work at all...
So please help me... I'm lost...

1. Switch your console over to NTSC (using Enigmah's NTSC-PAL Switcher)
2. Switch your mode setting on your VGA cable to HDTV (2+3 Mode)
3. Enable 480p in your Microsoft Dashboard using an HDTV cable (or blindly using your VGA cable...)
4. Boot your XBOX with a VGA BIOS and your VGA cable, and you're set.

Thanks Frosty, my Pal xbox V 1.1 runs now properly at 2 of my 3 screens. You've done a very awesome work!
The only problem is with my IBM G74 screen. There are many dropouts (the screens goes blank very often). And the whole picture is very bright, when I have a picture

. I can't even go to the screen settings menu because the picture goes blank when I try to do this. Could the resistor I used be the trigger of this failures? I took a 470kΩ resistor.
Thanks for the support!

I just got around to building one of these. Got some issues
I didnt have the exact componoents on hand, I used a 470kO and a 220kO in series for the 680k, and for the .1uF caps I used 2 .047uF in parallel. I think that part should be fine
I flashed my second bank on my duox2 with frostys x2 5035
Problem is i dont get anything on screen when i boot from either bios, on either of my monitors.
Do i have to enable 480p/720p/1080i before anything shows up? if so whats the easiest way to do so (I dont have a tv with component imputs around)
FrostyTheSnowman
Nov 13 2007, 03:23 AM
My X2 5035 will actually boot into VGA on any XBOX v1.0-v1.5 regardless of whether or not the HDTV settings are on.

But you do need an HDTV cable to use it... no other mode setting will work at all with this BIOS except for HDTV (Mode 2+3). (no other cable of any kind will work with this BIOS)
What mode setting are you using on your cable? (some guides use Mode 1+3 which does not work with my X2 5035)
Follow this guide to build a cable that is compatible with my X2 5035:

http://antibeat.host.sk/vgaguide/It took me a while to find various information about vga mods here. people were very helpful, but the tutorials were slightly old and some of the diagrams confusing. also, i only knew about hex editing after stumbling upon it.
To make it easier for someone to get into making a VGA mod to play xbox games on their PC monitors, i've brought together much of this information from the xs forums. I made my own diagrams i thought were more clear, and tried to make it all as simple as possible. Although i tried to keep it simple, i wanted to introduce someone with no information to the terms assosiated with doing the mod so that they could easily search this forum for relevant information.
Includes:-HD vs s-video comparison with screenshots
-Guide with diagrams on wiring a vga cable
-Quick guide to hex editing the MS Dashboard and other non-HD games to work in 480p

Hi guys, I'm new to this topic so my question may seem dumb. I tried to buy a component 2 VGA cable and use that with my component xbox connector to hook it up to my monitor. I don't get any picture on the screen and my monitor complains saying "Not Optimum Mode. Recommended Mode 1600x1200 60Hz"
My question is this, how different is the VGA connector hack described in this thread from an off the shelf component to VGA connector?
I tied holding the 2 triggers and pushing down the 2 sticks, but nothing happened. I have a moded XBOX running xecuter 2. I went to the system setting screen and tried both enabling the 480p,780p & 1080p and disabling them with the same results.

Do you know if your monitor supports Sync on Green (SOG, if you check the specs on the manufacturers website it should say). If it does then you shouldnt need anything other than a component to to VGA cable, if not you will have to build/buy one with the sync separator circuit. The other problem is some newer monitors dont like running at such a low resolution as 640x480 (480P) have you tried starting an app/setting your dash so it uses 720P and then plugging in the monitor and see if you get a picture in that mode?

It might help if you could tell us what region you live in.
For europe, there are 2 postorder companies specialised in electronic components. Farnell In One and RS components.
They work together with american companies doing the same thing. You can find the name of that company on their website.
In some cities, you have component shops that sell integrated circuits for repair purposes. A phonecall is usually all it takes to know if they can find that component for you.

Rock Band is a music video game developed by Harmonix Music Systems, published by MTV Games and Electronic Arts. All are taken with your Nikon digital camera on a tripod set up. The real image is produced by my digital projector 800x600. It may be true, is not the fact that digital signals are encoded in different ways and should be amended, and that these signals are scaled and address are displayed.
