Im planning to install an xbox to my car. I know it will be easy if im going to use inverter. But I want another way to install xbox without using inverter.

What does the PSU actually do? convert input power to 12V output??

If PSU gives 12V output. Is it possible to remove this? and get power directly from the car cigarette lighter which is 12V?

Thanks

The Xbox needs 12V, 5V, 3.3V (only on <1.6, as far as I remember... I could be wrong, though!) and some special outputs from the power supply. Building extra power-converters is a bitch.

I would use a power inverter. You can get a right one for <$100, they are small, look smoother and you won't have to mess with custom-made power-supplies. And, off course, they are easier to install.

Yep. To make my job simple Ill use inverter instead.

Inverter. You can get a 400W one (plenty to run an XBOX and a tv, and a vcr, and a dvd player) for about $35 at wal-mart or pep-boys. Use bolts or screws to flush-mount it to a panel in the trunk of your car, or under a seat.
