i was wondering if you can play on xbox live if you upgraded your xbox with a new harddrive with the use of a modchip. i know you have to disable the mod to go on live, thats obvious, but i didn't know if you would get banned by using a bigger harddrive if they looked for that on halo 2 or any other games. i am currently running xecuter 2.3L mod with evox dash and a 120gb Western digital harddrive.

If the box has been on live already u will need to change ur eeprom.
rixter110
the word on the street is YES you will be banned if you upgrade your hdd only if you havent used live and you upgrade first you wont be banned.
BOVA80
ok if i read that last statement right, you are saying if i already used live and then upgraded i will be banned, but if i haven't used live on that xbox yet i will be ok with the upgrade? i haven't had live yet on that xbox so basically all i have done was tried to sign up for a free 2 month trial but that didn't work cause i guess it was expired and that was just the other day with the upgraded HD.
mastahacka
I had a two month free trial and i just cancelled it. So if i upgrade now will i still b banned?
BOVA80
ok i think after reading i understand.

so if you have live with orginal hard drive and then you upgrade, when you are on live the eeprom will look like its been associated with 2 different drives which will then trigger you to be banned.

but...

if i haven't been on live yet with the original and then i upgrade the harddrive then the eeprom only looks like it has been associated with 1 drive in which you should be fine and not get banned.

is this correct or am i just stupid? sorry i am just trying to clear up my confusion.
oxjeremy334
you are correct...you need a new eeprom in order to upgrade.
BOVA80
i am upgraded and i dont remember doing anything with the eeprom. my harddrive is locked. in all would you recommend me signing up for xbox live with the upgraded harddrive, or sign up with the original harddrive and when i want to play live just put the original back in, thats what my friend does but i was looking for the easy solution and not wanting to have to keep switching harddrives.
oxjeremy334
I'm not sure...since you only used the trial version...but I would recommend that you get a new eeprom or switch out the hdds for live.
BOVA80
well i never got to use the trial, so there has never really been live on my xbox and i have never been banned.
pcoliver
now that was one confusing thread. Still not sure I know what will happen
BOVA80
ok to make things simple. all i want to know is will i get banned if i put xbox live on my modified xbox with the mod off, of course, but also with the 120gb harddrive? xbox live has never been put on and i have never been banned.
BOVA80
ok i understand now, i read the marriage post on how when you sign up for xbl it marries your eeprom to your HD serial number. very helpful thread.
