This game seems interesting hopfulling they will be picked up by xbox360 like they want. The graphics the engine can produce in real time look amazing. To me the most incredible part of this engine/game is that it is being made by only three people!

unrelated: Just noticed this is my 100th post. Yay for me! free pop.gif for everyone!
Mandalore
Yeah I saw the first sneak peak of it when it came out and was blown away. I had no idea this game was being developed by three people though that's just amazing. I don't expect this game to hit shelves for a long time though but if it looks anything like their concept art than were in for a treat.
portarock
If you read the team info two of them are artist! The game looks great hopfully M$ or someone else will pick it up. Also if you read the info about the engine it sounds like it will be very mod friendly ( if Im understanding it right , Im not a programer ). It talks about how everything uses xmls.
Andy51
My God! It even trumps and make Gears of War look bad.... and it's barely finished....

3rd party games either blow, or blow other games away....

if this game every makes it to selfs, it will blow all others away, count me in if it releases
twistedsymphony
Don't get me wrong it looks fantastic, but it hardly "trumps" Gears of War. Gears is already up and running. With multiple characters on screen and fully detailed and destructible environments. Not to mention it's running on less than final 360 hardware.

Project Offset is probably running on a high powered PC, of course it looks good... Can I bust down that brick wall... Is that other character thinking or is it just following it's animation routine?

Besides, while an "Epic Fantasy FPS" is certainly a new take on two different genres I never really cared much for fairies, elves and wizards. Give me aliens, robots, and mutants any day. laugh.gif
miggidy
It's amazing what three people can accomplish.
Hopefully some publishing studio picks them up.

Like Twisted, I'd like to see how this engine holds up with full AI, more enemies, and full environments. These guys are pretty confident that the Xbox 360 and PS3 can handle their game engine. If anyone's going to take a chance with these guys it's going to be M$ Game Studios. I don't see anyone else in the console business taking a chance....
Andy51
What the heck?

Project Offset

It's a Xbox 360 game also?

P.S. why are you comparing the old fucker to the Gears of War guy? Try the um.. Troll instead, IN THE SNEAK PEAK #2, which can be found on Project Offset's site or on Teambox I think..here..:

Watch the sneak peek 2 and look at the troll.. it's very detailed to me...

Like twisted, im not into the whole fantasy side of things, but if it looks half that good with many things on at once on screen, I'll buy it any day of the effing week pop.gif

I wasnt really agreeing with the comment that Offset trumps GOW, I was just providing a screenshot so that people can compare and judge for themselves. The reason I used the old man is because he is human like the lead character from Gears of War.

While I do think the graphics look great I dont think its a fair comparison. GOW is a actual game with AI, physics systems, multiple characters on screen etc. We dont know how far along PO is, what kinda system it is running on, and if there will be big proformance hit after implementing them.

I too am a shooter fan over half my games are shooters. I do feel a little reluctant to get this tiltle snice it seems a little weird to me and Ive never played anything similar. If this game can acomplish what it sets out to though then I think that I will have to buy it. The graphics will be great, it'll have destructible environments, rag doll and every mode ( single, co-op,deathmatch) you could possibly want.

Also this is not just a game but a new engine. If this engine can perform as good as they say then imagine the possibilities for other titles made with it. We could have an incredible shooter and it wouldnt take forever to make biggrin.gif But plz no more WW2 games dry.gif need a break from those.

beerchug.gif n pop.gif for everyone who actully read this post!! laugh.gif

I see, and yes it was fugly, but great game.

Andy51
Gimmie Gears of War, and Offset... the first epic fantasy FPS rolleyes.gif

But I think I want Gears of War... if Offset is to be only for PC.... That gives me an idea... Why don't Bungie use the engine for Halo 3... of course they would have to buy it and shit...
Hoogabooga
i would like to see bungie use the Hl2 engine for halo 2
corkinator
Half Life 2 is a very good game and has good physics and some nice scenes but the graphics are pretty average. Seriously.
incognegro
they gonna use their own engine..........i bet.

average is harsh.

running at 1080x1024 with everything cranked, this also means AA and AF cranked, its a beautiful game and definitely above average.

just my opinion smile.gif
KAGE360
the vids look great and if only 3 people can accomplish this imagine what a big development team can do. i think it would be more fair to compare the unveiling of each engine. these demos with the first demos of the unreal 3 engine. back when the U3E was first shown i dont think it had AI and everything in place and yet it still looked great. if the offset team can do what epic has then good things are to come.

i honestly cant wait until something comes along within the next few years and really eclipses these engines. yes they were built with the next gen in mind but i cant help but think that if an engine was built exclusively for the 360 it would push the bar higher then any current engine.
Mr.Sci-Fi
AH this reminds me of the days I use to play HERETIC on the pc, I'm all up for an awesome looking Fantasy FPS.
portarock
I was bored and saw this on tv so I thought Id update.
interview from G4: click here
incognegro
yea im very interested in the engine not the game dry.gif
bluvasa
I think this just goes to show that a few talented people can definitely compete with the big boys.

The Unreal engine is awesome, but it is good to see that similar results can be achieved by a smaller team.

This puts my mind at ease a little over Halo3.

Bungie is definitely developing their own engine and I think it will be just as good as Unreal, Source, Realtime or this Offset.

Deftech
come on MS! be their publisher!
KAGE360
im both interested in the game and the engine. if they get the whole game looking like that short clip it could be very interesting indeed. also i hope they begin liscencing this engine out and see what other devs cook up with this kind of engine.

i wonder if bungie is developing their own engine and if so i hope they do a better job then they did with the halo 2 engine. it was good but it wasnt the most efficient engine with all the texture pop-up and the inability to support co-op over LIVE or system link. but all that was based off of the original halo engine built for the PC and mac so now hopefully they will fully tailor an engine to the 360 and hang with the big boys (offset, Unreal 3, and Wardevil engines)
bluvasa
Time constraints had more to do with the lack of coop and texture popin in H2. It wasn't purely engine limitations.

Check out this interview with Bungie's Mat Noguchi:

Link

He talks a little about pop in and the rush they went through to finish everything.

Back on topic:

I think any developer with talent and dedication can make an effective next gen game.

Yes development costs are rising, but I don't think the $20 million dollar quoted by EA is applicable to everyone.

well as for the time restraints they always said "it will be done when its done" (which is BS) but any dev can say that given enough time they could have improved or implemented a feature. the game was delayed for a year and if they havent figured out how to get co-op running good then they never would have during the xbox's life cycle. what i dont understand is that Doom 3 ran great over co-op and the Doom 3 engine is a much harder engine to run blink.gif i have read and seen many interviews where they have stated many reasons for not including co-op (time restraints, technical limitations, unecceptable quality) and thats fine, but they will have no excuse for not including co-op in halo 3 on the 360.

all im saying is that is that if they build an engine from the ground up for the 360 it could better benefit them in the long run, unlike the first halo engine which was built using the PC and Mac as its base then ported to the xbox at the last minute.

I totaly agree. One of the main reasons McGrath said he made the Offset engine is to cut cost and development time. If it only took one programer to make this engine then imagine the kind of games that can be made with a team of say 25. Also in the interview they mention using current gen harware, so a 360 should be able to handle the engine and then some. I think I might have to agree with that statement about the floor in the video. It looked pretty amazing to me.
Deftech
The floor comment was impressive indeed. Once people start making efficient engines, this industry can move forward in a big way. I give credit to these guys and lots of it.

This "recycled madden engine for the past 5 years" mindset has to go grr.gif
