QUOTE(kana007 @ May 22 2006, 07:20 AM) *

A Murder of Crows,

Thanks for the info. I will consider that adaptor.

I have one game that is giving me problems after this mod. The game is Serious Sam. The problem
is that it will not play from the hard drive in 480p. The sound is good but the picture is a mess. It will
play from the dvd drive in 480p no problem. It will play in 480i if I change setting in MS dash to 480p=no.
I cleared the cache, changed to the correct font, deleted the contents of X,Y,Z. I transfered the game to hard drive using dvd2xbox, unleashx filebrowser, from pc to xbox with FlashFXP. My other xbox can play this game from hard drive in 480p with no problems.
I updated the virtual eeprom. Could that have anything to do with it?

What could be causing this?

Thanks

Alright, first off, this probably belongs in another thread, but i'll answer it here for your reference.

there are 3 different video decoders. I'm guessing that the system with the problem regarding serious sam is a 1.6 system. Those have an Excalibur decoder i believe. There is not 1 patch that i know of (and my knowledge in this area is limited) that will allow the Excalibur to run in VGA 100% perfect. This may or may not be your issue, though.

Some games require the disc to run in 480p. Serious Sam is probably one of them. Not many "fixes" to this problem, besides burning a disc of it.

Beyond that, a simple normal google search of "Serious Sam" 480p "Hard drive" brought up these pages

hope that helps

I did a search for this, but could not find it anywhere. Please forgive me if I am reposting.

I just got AR and have the SC installer. I copied the .rar file to the memory card using AR, and copied the linux installer to my xbox HD. When I put in SC, however, I do not see a place to load the save. Are there other files I need to transfer to my box? Thanks for your help and thanks for the installer Krayzie

Next time, unzip the rar file.

Yeah. I was being a genius yesterday. After 12 hours at work, I should not be allowed near a computer, knives, or heavy machinery.

A Murder of Crows,

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you. There is a small problem with version 1.6 xbox. My 1.4v
xbox has no problems with playing Serious Sam in 480p from the hard drive. I have found a few
other games that also have this problem with version 1.6 xbox.

Yes....so i found via the normal google....*kicks stupid X-S search*

The next thing is to figure out if it's possible to encorporate 32k clusters into either this installer (doubtful, would have to go thru NKPAtcher) or thru Xboxhdm....also need to know if it would be okay to have a very large G drive (300GB) and a normal f (137gb) by this means....cause otherwise, there would be no point to using XBOXHDM to pre-install Krayzie's w/ F drive....the files that i place there would end up being killed.

Normally, i have a lot more patience, but this is just stupid.

Please, "Derrr", go back to the package and the place where you got it from, go back to the begining of this thread, and for the love of pete READ WHAT THE README AND FORUM SAYS!!!!

if what you read makes no sense, for the sake of your xbox and our sanity, please put away all downloaded files and return to the N00B forum. This is too advanced for you. Come back when you've done your homework about what your chosen exploit method requires you to do to work.

thanks but i did read the README the one that came with them i read and it did not cover any information on this happening.

I didn't say the begining of the thread was a readme. i said read the readmes included with the files you got, and READ THE THREAD FROM THE BEGINING, which i repeated, with the letters in BOLD so you could see it better the 2nd time.

all these noob questions have been asked many times, and if you can't be bothered to read a thread to find your answer, why should you expect help from anyone. Hell, basic answers to your question were asked less than 10 pages back!!!

How lazy are you?

Maybe i've grown cranky in my old age, and i know the search is crappy right now, but really, don't you think that if you got stopped so early in the process of the mod, that MAYBE someone else did too, and that their question MIGHT have been answered in the first few pages of a thread????

at one point I tried to suggest that perhaps it was time to cut this thread up to it's best technical advice, turn it into a one post FAQ/Pin, and start up a new discussion thread regarding the installer. I'd like to make that suggestion again. This will condence the info so that those too lazy to read thru the thread can get their info in 1 shot, it will promote only the good information (there were a few missteps along the way), and it will hopefully keep the n00b questions to a minimum.

as i find time, i'll write up as close to a complete FAQ on this as possible, and will post it if it meets approval.

For now, please, if you can't figure out something, try reading the first and last 10 pages of the thread. it's not hard.

Quick question:

I'm about to help softmod a fellows box (mine's done, thank you Krayzie) and just want to be sure of something before I do it.

With the way XBMC now requires a shortcut XBE to boot, does this affect how it interacts with Krayzie's Ndure installer? I mean, can I still use the Extras to set it as the dash?

Thanks in advance.
Derrr
Before "A Murder of Crows" Criticizes me i read everything he posted and the whole section he linked. But it still did not work for my xbox.

Alright, i try everything, i downloaded both Krayzie Ndure installer and UXE Installer from xbins. I then open up the folder containing Ndure and copy the file: Krayzie_ST-NTSC_Ndure_Installer_v1.1 to my action replay, then i go to my xbox and boot it up, make sure their are no other linux files or SC save files (and ive tried deleting the whole SC folder all together). I transfer it over then boot up my Splinter Cell: platnium addition (which i know is supposed to work) i then proceed to the load games section where i only get the option to make a new account. I know there is supposed to be two SC files but this is what came with the download : IPB Image.

I tried putting both V1.0 and V1.1 on my xbox and still no avail.

Now i know people are going to call me a noob, and i really dont care, i just want help to mod my xbox.

Hmm, seems this was answered in one of the posts i listed....let me clarify a bit more for you:

QUOTE(mattman135 @ Aug 25 2005, 10:38 AM) *

Couple noob softmod questions using Krayzie's Ndure Installer for SC. Comes with 2 game saves, so do I copy them both to the Xbox HD and load the first one and then the second one? I'll be using a AR if that matters. Sorry if it's been asked before but I couldn't find the answer anywhere.

seems to me that you must have missed something, as you shouldn't have uploaded anything besides a SAVE GAME to your xbox. And there should be 2 of them actually....so perhaps you aren't reading enough (first 12 pages, last 10 pages), but you CERTAINLY shouldn't be modding your own box if you can't get to this point.

TRY UNRARING THE PACKAGE!!!!!! LOOK FOR THE F'N SAVE GAMES!!!!! COPY THEM TO YOUR F'N AR, AND QUIT BEING SUCH A WHINY LAZY JERK!!

Krayzie's package is the easiest thing i've ever seen to install a mod. I repeat my early assessment of you and your situation: You are either too lazy to read thru THE ENTIRE THREAD, OR AT LEAST THE FIRST 10-20 PAGES AND THE LAST 10-20 PAGES, or YOU ARE TOO MUCH OF A N00B TO DO THIS, AND FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR XBOX YOU SHOULD PUT THE DOWNLOADS AWAY AND ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU.

The key here is patience, which i have run out of for questions like these.....the answers have been given at least 1000 times, and instead of having the patience to LOOK for the answer, YOU just want the answer handed to you, and THAT is why i'm criticizing you. If that isn't the case, then the only other possibility is that you are an idiot, which again means that you shouldn't be trying to mod your own box as you will kill it.

1. You attempted to do something before completely knowing the process to do it. THis is ALWAYS dumb, especially with things like this, which CAN brick and xbox if you don't have the proper measures to fix it.

2. After attempting and finding out it didn't work as you thought, you didn't try to find an answer, you expected it handed out, Not even bothering to read the thread you were posting to, not even thinking that maybe, with so many other people having no problems at all, that you did something wrong....or that perhaps since others got it right and you were stopped so early in the process, that maybe someone else had the same problem and the answer was already there.....nope, you're too good to read.

3. You are lucky you got stopped where you did, and you are very lucky you were using Krayzie's installers....they are pretty n00b proof, so you probably would have been safe....i can't imagine what you'd be saying if you had screwed up your xbox....probably would have blamed it on krayzie.

you don't need help modding your box. you need to learn patience, learn how to read the rules of forums, and only ask questions after you searched. i found answers for you in 10 minutes, but you couldn't see it.

EDIT:

What's worse, the reason i'm so ticked at your laziness is that, within the last 7 or 8 pages (page 72, this response is on page 79), i answered this question before:

I'm going to be (soft)modding my Xbox for the first time soon and am looking to use your "Krayzie_SC-PAL_Ndure_Installer_v1.1" on my cherished Splinter Cell via a memory card (PC -> USB -> Controller -> Memory card), but the card is only 8 meg. The extracted install .zip is 15 meg. How am I meant to utilize it? It will just fit if I leave out the Extra's folder. Can I do that?

Also, if I have a 5960 version dashboard, is this the ONLY requirement needed to utilize the basic install feature?
Is this file the only one I'll need to softmod my Xbox to a state where I can boot up, do X, Y, Z, and end up in a modded dashboard? This sounds too damn good to be true.

QUOTE(A Murder of Crows @ May 6 2006, 03:48 AM) *

Did you read ANY of the readme files in-cluded?
1. Unzip the package
2. Update the package
3. Copy both UDATA.zip files to memory card one at a time
4. Copy both UDATA.zip files to xbox one at a time
5. Mod
6. Back to PC, read the readme files to create an Extras disc and a rescue disc

I read the readme and all kinds of Faq info on this forum. I am very confused at the start point. I have a brand new xbox without any mod. My questions are

1. Ndure readme says to copy the save into xbox hard drive. Here the save means the whole installer files or just the 4541000d directory (after expend udata zip file)? If just copy 4541000d directory first into xbox hard drive, then how to deal with the other files in Ndure installer? Where to put? I just can not get the start point. I suggest readme include system requirements and preinstallation.

2. Why not many talking about USB to XBox adapter instead of memory card or game save or anything else? With USB to XBox adapter, we can plug in a popular USB drive to xBox. The high capacity of USB drive like 512M, 1G saves the memory card crash problem, isn't it? Any catch or trick here?

3. I am going to replace the xbox hard drive with a new hard drive. Based on the information I read these days, it seems the best time to do is before softmod becase we can keep the orgininal xbox hard drive untouched in case future messd up. Ndure installer can help the hard drive upgrade. After all the things done to prepare the new hard drive for xbox and replace the xbox hard drive before Ndure installer begins, should the xbox be running fine with that new hard drive like before with the original xbox hard drive? Or I have to complete all the steps of Ndure installer to make the system working on the new hard drive?

Those are the questions I can not find answer clearly in the forum. I am just at the point to start the Krayzie Ndure Installer and hope someone can help to clear up my confusion.

Hey Ryan

FYI, this question has nothing to do with Krayzie's installer... Your question is best answered in the forums regarding UnleashX as a dashboard, and any of the FAQs dealing with netwoking your xbox. You can also get some minor help from the forum of the emulator you wish to use.

Please try to scan thru the forum topics before posting a question in the wrong forum.

For now, all you need to do is ftp the emulators and roms in. the other forums and FAQs should help you do that.

THis is hardware related, not Installer related, but oh well:

Only questions i have are:

1. are you using the exact same backups in both systems?
2. Do both systems you modded have the same drive?
3. Have you attempted to clean the laser lens of the drive?

I agree with krazyie that the media you are using probably sucks. Get Taiyo Yuden discs. However, i would like to point out that even systems that have never been modified can have issues with lasers, especially thompsons.

Check what drive you have (if using UnleashX you can tell from the Settings area, storage i think), and see if it's a Tommy.....if so, you may be facing laser/drive replacement on that system, as lower quality media is always the first to stop being able to be read in these machines.

I've got a samsung B drive that reads everything i throw at it with no issues at all. I try to clean the laser at least once a month, and keep dust away.

Much better articulation, and an attempt at reading. Good job!

1. When you unrar Krayzie's Installer on your PC, you should find several folders. Depending on what version of the installer you got (MA, SC, 007) you may have 1 or 2 folders that will say "XX Save"

Open that folder and you'll have a UDATA.Zip file. that should be transfered to an Action Replay/Memory Card. If you don't have that, you can unzip the file(s), creating a UDATA folder(s). Combine the Folders in the case of Splinter Cell. You can now use XBoxHDM to format a hard drive with those files, or you can FTP them in to your E:\UDATA folder.

Nothing to do with the installer directly. How you choose to get the installer on is your kuleana. I would say that most people can build their own cable and pick up a memory card for less than $15. I know stores around me are closing out the Action Replay at $15 or less....far cheaper than a USB drive and an adapter, especially since an adapter for the PC is included with the Action Replay.

This question kinda didn't make too much sense...but i'll give it a shot.

1. Use the installer to exploit the game of choice. Choose "Backup Eeprom"
2. go back to main menu after backing up eeprom
3. note the IP address and FTP into the system to pull off your epprom.bin file. Copy your game saves to your PC at the same time, if you plan to keep them.
4. if you want your drive stock again, delete the Backups folder from E:\. if you don't need to copy your game saves, you may remove the old drive now.
5. Follow the FAQs for XBoxHDM using your eeprom file to lock the new drive.
6. New Drive should be plug and play like stock after locking

Now, what you have here is a replaced hard drive running stock....in order to enjoy the added hard drive size, you will have to run the installer to completion on the upgraded hard drive.

Lastly, there is an option to remove the mod. So if you want to go back to stock at any point, you can, just access the save. If you read back about 7 pages or so, i explained to Kana about the many ways you can mod the box using a combination of XboxHDM, Krayzie's Installer, and the Extras & Rescue disc.

Thanks a lot, A Murder of Crows for your help. Now I can not help begin the project. But there is still one thing that prevent me from starting the mission,

Krayzie Ndure Installer requires Dashboard 5960. Based on the researh on this forum, I can either use new live game(after Halo2) to update dashboard or use xbox's xbox live menu. I do not have new xbox live game for now. I am planing to take xbox live menu way. But in this case, I am just afraid I cannot control the version of dashboard. I blieve this way will alwasy get the latest MS dashboard. Then what about I get the MS dashboard 6960 instead of 5960?

Your help is very apprecaited.

Ok I wondered if someone could help me before I brick my xbox.

I have a pal system softmodded with this installer which I then installed XBMC as the default dashboard.
I have an NTSC game I want to play but whenever I try to load it through whatever methods direct disk boot or choosing the xbe through the program browser it simply resets XBMC.
I read through a couple of helpful threads and apparently I need to switch the whole system temporarily from PAL to NTSC settings, but to run the program(XBMC doesnt do it) it needs to write to the eeprom with is not at all recommended, but I also read somewhere I cant remember that this particular installer also has some sort of virtual eeprom.
So my question is, does this virtual eeprom simply emulate the real eeprom while the xbox is running and therefore make it safe to run the video mode switching program or have I just completely misunderstood the situation and it would still write to the real eeprom and potentialy damage my xbox

You're Welcome.

There is another way.

1. hunt around the usual places for "Slayer's".
2. Install Krayzie's Installer using minimal (not basic) install
3. FTP over the Extras folder and run Krayzie's Extras.
4. In the Extras menu, run Krayzie's (Advanced) Extras.
5. Choose Professional Mode
6. Use the slayers disc to update your dashboard/restore your C drive. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE WITH SLAYERS AND CHOSE YOUR OPTIONS CAREFULLY!!!!
7. Slayer's installs 5960 and brings your box back to stock C drive (be sure you only do the C)
8. Re-Run the exploit and choose Basic (Full) install. You should have all features.

By the way, if you don't need access to the Live Console or the original MS Dash, you can get by using just the minimal install.

You need to find either the PAL-NTSC switch program or possibly Config Magic 1.6 Final. you might be able to use Config Magic to alter your virtual eeprom directly, but if not i can help with that:

If you have installed Krayzie's using my guide from 8 or so pages back, you should have Krayzie's Extras on your system. Launch that, then Launch the (Advanced) Extras. Now choose Professional Mode. This allows you access to Real C, and should also allow you access to Real Eeprom. Run the PAL-NTSC switch here. Save, reset, and see if the game runs while you are in Pro Mode. If so, go back and update your virtual eeprom, then reboot completely and see if the ntsc game runs in modded mode. if so, restart the whole process, and change Real Eeprom back to PAL mode. The game should NOT run while in pro mode. if it doesn't, you are done.

What this does is forces your virtual eeprom into NTSC and your real eeprom into PAL. Since Xbox Live only cares about your real eeprom, that should remain PAL to make sure you get on the right servers and such, just in case (i'm not an eeprom expert at all, so take this advice with a grain of salt). Your virtual eeprom will remain NTSC, which almost all PAL TVs i've heard of made in the last 10 years can support by means of PAL-60 or an actual NTSC mode. Leaving it this way will also enable Progressive Scan modes for you to use with a PC monitor.

I'd suggest running in NTSC mode permanently unless you have to get on Live for any reason. I've played games region marked as PAL on my setup and they work fine (US NTSC v1.4) on both my TV and my PC Monitor.

In theory, you should be able to do this directly with a virtual eeprom as well, but i haven't figured a way to make it work yet.

Is the 1.1.1 Updated installer in the Usual Places now? Haven't been there in awhile, and i'm in the process of writing up the FAQ....i don't want to tell people to update to 1.1.1 unless they still have to.

Thanx

So, if in XBMC you just push the White button when you have the game selected and choose to run it in NTSC mode it doesn't work?
krayzie

Okays....As i get more work done on this faq, would you do me the favor of checking my changes to your package? If you approve, maybe you can get an official 1.1.1 upped to the usual places, and i can take out any references to upgrading the package to 1.1.1
krayzie
No in time I will make a v1.2 and will up that to the usual places.

I see...any estimated time on that? I've had some ideas kicking around that i wanted to pass on to you in case you updated again, including some minor relabeling, updating the UnleashX.xbe, etc. mostly minor, but things that i felt would really eliminate some confusion with the installer.

also, i don't want to work too hard on this version of the FAQ if it's just going to be useless in 4 weeks....

I'm always open for suggestions. I don't have an eta yet. Could be months.

Hi, everybody,
I followed exactly Krayzie's step and read most of the posts here. Today I tried around all night to do softmod using Krayzie Ndure installer 1.0 howevered failed. I am using Sprinter Cell exploit and have the action replay memory key to copy the game exploit to the XBOX. I tried install softmod several times but every time after reboot (which it says it will ask me to activate softmod after reboot) I got a blank screen with yellow LED light. And if I load the expoit again to see what happes, at which time the LED is red and I have ftp access, however if I try to do manual SOFTMOD On, it tell me the error message:
Batch File failed. Action: Rename.
I tried many times with that, now I am exhausted. What can I do now? Do anybody know what's the problem with my steps? Or any one has the same experience?

Thanks!

Mornin.

I get a failed reboot on occasion when installing also. The mod isn't "activated" at that reboot...what is activated is the shadowC drive. You should recieve a screen telling you to "Press A". You aren't, for whatever reason, so here's what i would do:

Try to see if rebooting a 2nd time works to get you the "Press A" screen...if not, then do this

1. Restore C drive to stock 5960 - Use Slayer or the Remove Softmod exploit menu option to go back to stock C.

2. Download Krayzie's 1.1 installer

3. Update 1.1 to 1.1.1 - Follow the link in Krayzie's Sig, or the pinned topic in this forum

4. Delete any and all save games related to the installer from your hard drive, including any Splinter Cell games

5. Transfer the 1.1.1 installer game save files over to your system

6. Now follow this FAQ:

#1 - Basic Setup
---------------------------
This section tunes up your Xbox to prep for the mod. Here, you will want to clean up your save games and choose all your settings for your favorite setups. You should also enable HD Modes and 5.1 Audio options here to make sure that the virtual eeprom uses your favorite settings.

What you Need Here:
-------------------
A) Xbox System
cool.gif Power Cable
C) XBox Controller
D) Paper and Pen/Pencil, computer with NotePad
E) TV/Monitor Cables

Optional:
---------
A) HD/Component Cables
cool.gif SVideo Cables
C) Optical Audio Cables
D) X2VGA 2
E) Home Theater Unit with Optical In (Optical Audio Cable)
F) HD TV (HD cables) or TV with SVideo In (SVideo Cables)
G) VGA PC Monitor (x2vga 2)

What To Do:
-----------
1. Hook up your xbox system with your chosen method (HD Cables, Svideo Cables, X2vga)

Optional: If using optical sound, please make sure to read your manual about how to enable the optical ports.

2. Turn on the xbox with no game in it. THis will take you to the MS Dashboard. You should have video and sound working here. Check your manuals for your TV, x2vga, or Home Theater unit here if you don't.

3. Set the date, time, and time zone properly for your region.

4. In Audio Settings, Set the Audio Mode according to how you hooked up the system. I use Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound. These modes reqiure SVideo or HD/Component Cables to be enabled. I suggest enabling this mode in all xbox systems as the sound comes out in standard Stereo if you don't have the proper cable hooked up later, yet it retains the Optical/5.1 setting when you go back to that type of setup.

5. In Video Settings, set the video mode to whichever you prefer. I use Letterbox to allow widescreen viewing on my 4:3 monitor.

6a. OPTIONAL!!! NTSC ONLY - In Video Settings, set the video modes to enable the Progressive Scan Modes your monitor can handle. You Need HD/Component cables to be able to enable these modes. The Safest bets are to only enable 720p and 480p at the most, as some games won't work with 1080i mode enabled. Like the 'hidden' audio options, these choices retain, even if you move the xbox to a non-component, non-hd tv. This will only work on NTSC xbox systems. PAL Users wanting HD/Progressive Scan will have to convert their system over to NTSC to do so.

6b. OPTIONAL!!! NTSC, Dashboard 5960 ONLY - After enabling your Progressive Scan modes in 6a, back out to the Main Menu. Hold down both triggers and "Click" on both thumbsticks. This will enable the Dashboard to be displayed in Progressive Scan 480p mode. This only works on dash 5960 and above. If your dash has not yet been updated to 5960, follow the rest of the FAQ and return here to enable the mode later.

7. With your xbox plugged in and turned on, delete any Game Save Data that you have for the chosen Exploit Disc. Although this is not always nessescery in all cases, it is HIGHLY suggested to prevent errors.

While here, you should delete as many Game Saves and Custom Soundtracks as you can live without. No need to delete them all, but ones you won't use anymore or ones you can live without should be removed to leave as much space as possible for the mod files and cache. Soundtracks take up a LOT of space. These files all reside on your E partition, which is where a lot of this mod will occur.

8. In Settings, choose Xbox Info and wait till the copyright info scrolls up. Here you will see 2 sets of numbers. Write these down in a safe place.

9. Optional - Use a DVD-Lens Cleaner disc to clean the laser of your drive. You should do this about once a month.

Upon deleting all the Game Saves that you can, enabling all modes you might want to use now or in the future, and writing down your kernel info, your xbox is ready to either be modded or updated to Dashboard 5960. Transfer your Exploit and run your game.

------------

That should get you to a good place. WHen the installer tells you to turn off the system or "Press OK", instead, hit the Eject button to pull out the disc.

see how that goes for you, and report back.

That's just it...you sound like you are trying to re-run the mod. Just take out the disc and reboot when you get that blank screen. When you confirm that it doesn't work, we can troubleshoot more.

Also, did you delete the old exploited game saves? Update your box's dash to 5960? get rid of unnessescery game saves and soundtracks?

In my mini FAQ to prep for the mod, i mention that you should read the xbox credits and write down 2 numbers....one set of those numbers is your Kernel. it is suggested that you use kernel spesific fonts with the mod. I never ran into a box that wouldn't work with the generic, however i still suggest switching over to kernel spesific....just match one of the numbers (i belive it is marked with a K) to the number next to the spesific fonts.
