- Question from a happy user of an XBOX softmodded with current NDURE (dual retail) -

just a curiosity: where the shadow C is actually located on xbox drive?
I browsed - as said just for learning - both C and E but I was not able to identify it....

no one willing to answer me? sad.gif

It's on the actual c drive. you can't access it from modded mode, so you will not be able to see it. when you can access it, you can't edit it's contents.

Everything clear then. Thanks!

Here is the nfo file. Beware that this is still no final nfo and it may contain typos or things that might change.

Krayzie Ndure Installer v1.1

Basic outline:

This softmod installer installs the Ndure Exploit along with Nkpatcher11_UO2 and Evolution X or UnleashX as a dashboard.
This exploit is compatible with all kernels (all xbox versions) and has the ability to be used with xbox live (it can even
receive gameupdates).
Also it has many safety features such as a virtual C or eeprom making it very hard to mess them up and it has various
bootpaths to ensure you won't have to freak out when you accidentally (re)move/mess up your dashboard.
This package is fully customizable to each ones likings and could be used as a very complete All In One softmod method.
The main purpose of this installer is to setup an easy and secure way to use a complete softmod with many easy to set up
options.

The installer itself is pretty easy to use as you will be guided to whole the softmod process and every step is explained
into detail.

Further more when installed it can (optionally) be fully customized using the added Extras option. This ad-on package can
be used in several ways; just ftp it your Apps folder or burn it to disc and run it. You could even fill this disc with
your own favorite Apps and Emulators and let the disc copy them to your HD thus eliminating the need of (dangerous)
autoinstaller discs.
Customizations involve:
-multi boots* to msdash for live gaming
-multi boots to onlinedash for live account management/signups and live gaming
-multiboots to alternative dashboard (altdash)
-led settings for main and altdash
-fan settings for main and altdash
-SOG RGB support for main and altdash (VGA patches)
-force progressive scan for main and altdash
-test and replace dashboard function for own added dash

*multiboots let you boot different dashes and states by using different buttons to power on making it possible to for
instance boot UnleashX using the power button and boot a live safe msdash using the eject button. The two types of
multiboots are dual-boots and tri-boots (tri boots do the same as dualboots but have an extra safety feature and
closes the tray automatically

And last but not least one could setup up a rescue disc to restore your Dashboard or even your whole C and E partitions
after certain messups.

For more in-depth info/usage check the readme

Hey Krayzie, would you mind to add on the info file of 1.1 also something about the need (or not) for Ndure 1.0 users to upgrade to the new install (i.e. rebuild to stock and then run 1.1)?

I mean: is there a need for the upgrade? What functionality will 1.0 users miss if the don't move to 1.1?

I think it could be usefull.

two of the smallest request ever made for the next krayzie-version:

- change the positions of evolution-x and unleashx in the menu, so that is unleashx on top
why? i hope with that more people will choose unleashx instead of evox. i think unleashx is the much better way to work with. lots more features, better functionality!

- pack in jezz`s "project mayhem III mark3"-skin for unleashx. it`s sooooo much better than the standart one.

krayzie
first of all users don't need to return to stock first because the installer features and upgrade function for 1.0 users. 2nd there is no "need". Just look at the features and see for yourself if it's worth it or not. I will see if I can add more usefull info though.

Hey everyone,

I have a question about this softmod and how it might effect configmagic. I posted a tread about my problem here

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Please help me out. Thanks

Great Program, But i cant find a way to uninstall it. I have looked everywhere, loaded the savegame again, and have found nothing..... any help? muhaha.gif

Sorry if these are stupid questions.

I've been modding with the latest ltools and haven't had any problems with it, and i'm down with this Udure installer. I've read the readme file and all that, and sounds good to go. It mentions that it could screw up if there are traces of a previous softmod on the hard drive. Now, if i just select the uninstall method from the ltools menu, will that get rid of any softmod files that would cause a screw up?

Secondly, I have a 160gb hard drive and am wondering if Ndure will recognize the size of the F: drive and not erase it on me will it?

Thanks ahead for your help.

could anyone be so kind and post a new link to the Nkpatcher11_UO2 source as the other link does not work anymore. thanks smile.gif

Krayzie:

One thing that never seemed to work properly for me was the changing of the audio from Stereo to Digital by the use of the M$Dash in modded mode. Every time i would edit the settings, upon reset or shutdown, the system would go back to it's previous settings.

I believe it's because i was doing something wrong....my guess is that either my renaming "backups" to "Backups" may have been the issue....otherwise, i think it may be because the EEPROM.bin file was different in the Backups folder than in the C:\

mine was different because for awhile i'd upgrade a system with a new hard drive by using the same files i already had for C:\

I'm about to change my hard drive out of my 1.6 and into a 1.4. I know the eeproms are not the same, but i'd like confirmation from you:

When a large hard drive is installed, can one use the same base C:\ files every time, or should he copy them from the original drive's modded C instead.

thanx

that depends. if you use the actual C to setup the new hd you need to use the C of the xbox your gonna upgrade. If you use the virtual C you can use the same C for any xbox. Settings not saving indicates there is something wrong with the virtual eeprom which is on the actual C.
A Murder of Crows
Thanx for the fast reply.

Well, that explains a lot, and it makes 100% sense....i've been using the eeprom from my original xbox on several other 1.6 mods, which is why none of them saved settings in the virtual.

problem sovled, you da man.

Should I upgrade my UXE 2.8 to NDure. What are the advantages, disadvantages?

I have heard it has some advantages with Live, can anyone elaborate?

Hey Krayzie, just downloaded the 1.1 MA Beta 02. Haven't looked at it too much, but I did just use it to succesfully update my 1.0 to 1.1. All the new features are great, especially the customization. The upgrade to NKP11 is a good surprise and I think many people will enjoy the LED customization for both the main dash and alternate dash. The 1.0 to 1.1 upgrade is pure genious (I never even thought of that, I figured I would have to uninstall, then do 1.1). Glad to see that the upgrader works "cross-game". I installed 1.0 with Splinter Cell and upgraded to 1.1 with Mechassault. I like the fact that my E:/Dashboard folder doesn't get deleted during the update. (It did with the remove softmod option in 1.0, so I was always forced to remember to back it up) That's another thing I was going to say. When removing (uninstalling) the softmod, all apps, games, music, pictures, videos, etc. stay on the hard drive. They don't get deleted, which is a good thing. But why does the E:/Dashboard folder get deleted? This seems unnecessary, so correct me if I'm wrong. For people who continuously uninstall/reinstall softmods (just like to play around with stuff), it becomes a hassle remembering to back up my dashboard folder before I remove the softmod. Perhaps you could have that as an option, like when removing softmod.

Ask: Do you want to delete E:/Dashboard? Choose yes if you will not be installing this softmod again, choose no if you will reinstall this softmod later and like your dash the way it is now.

Then, during installation of the softmod, before asking UnleashX or EvoX, do a simple, quick check to see if E:/Dashboard/default.xbe exists. If yes, proceed to:

An existing dashboard was detected, would you like to keep this dashboard or install a fresh new one?

If no dashboard is detected in E:/Dashboard/default.xbe, then obviously it would go to the UnleashX/EvoX menu.

Again, this is just a question, and it would only really benefit people who uninstall and reinstall softmods frequently. It wouldn't be useful for the majority of users. And it isn't completely necessary either. It's extra work that really isn't needed or popular, but I'm just throwing ideas on the table. If you like it, cool. If you don't, no problem, at least I put it out there. It's a lot of config writing for a thing that would be used by so few people.

Glad to see that "Extras" is very much so improved over the last one. We can only hope that everybody uses your "Autoinstaller" rather than any other one. I have had a lot of people ask for help on AIM because they didn't know they weren't suppossed to use SlaYer's with a softmod. Maybe you should put that in writing at the end of the Softmod Installation. Thanks for choosing Krayzie's NDURE 1.1, now learn how to FTP and NEVER USE SLAYER'S OR ANY OTHER AUTOINSTALLER WITH THIS SOFTMOD. Use my Extras application.

Tribooting to xonlinedash is a new one, isn't it? I've never heard of doing it before. This is very useful for people who need to change their network settings for LIVE, and create/delete/copy/recover accounts.

Wow, looking at the config for the extras is crazy, gives me nightmares. Having to write all that out must have been a bitch, there's so much! I guess that's what you would have to go through for all the customization though. About the Extras:

Will it always be password protected?

Very nice to see you made your own sort of Autoinstaller.

Glad to see the test and replace dashboard function, as this is the big one most people end up deleting.

Noticed a folder in your Extras App titled "fuckms" ohmy.gif laugh.gif ohmy.gif LMAO. That's some funny shit. You might want to change that, if only for common courtesy.

In the Extras Application/extras (Launch Extras) the config.xml has two typos that I noticed. In the multiboot list. For the Altdash boot locations. For both dual-altboot and tri-altboot.

QUOTE
<List Text="dual-altdash" Sort="off" Batch="True">

<List Text="tri-altdash" Sort="off" Batch="True">

(quoted it because code would have taken away the blue font)

Notice the first boot order for the altdash is presented in the message/infobox as default, xbe and not default.xbe. (Just change the commas to periods)

Another suggestion for the .NFO file. Make it a README.TXT file instead of an .NFO file because most people not familiar with software releases will just double-click the .NFO and it would bring up "Not a valid Information file" Even though many of us know to open it up in wordpad, some may not.

I was hoping for the option or ability to install UDDAE in the extras app, but I didn't see it anywhere. Could this possibly be included later on? I loved SCEEE, and as far as I know, MS still has not fixed/looked for this exploit. Am I correct? If anything, it would be good for non-Live users or for people who just rent the games.

Ok, this is another future request. I have chipped Xboxes, TSOP'ed Xboxes, and softmodded Xboxes many, many times. When a friend wants his Xbox modded, they usually ask for a softmod, because they don't want to pay for a chip. Everybody comes back a week later with a new, bigger hard drive in hand. That's fine and dandy, upgrading the hard drive is no biggie, I know how to use XboxHDM and everything. The only problem with upgrading the hard drive is the marriage theory. A lot of people have Xbox LIVE. So, in order to upgrade the hard drive and keep from getting banned, the EEPROM must be updated to one that has never been on LIVE before. Not too easy to do with NDURE's ShadowC drive and virtual EEPROM. So is there anyway to make a "Switch to Professional Mode" in which the user would have full access to the hard drive and access to the eeprom. You could hide it very well, deep within the extras, and require a password for it, and many warnings so that people don't break their xbox. I would just like an easier way to upgrade the EEPROM with a softmod.

Ok, I guess I wrote a little bit, but I haven't even really looked into all of the release yet. What I have tried is working perfectly and I just wanted to throw out some suggestions to see if there was anything you liked. Many of my suggestions are personal, and probably would not be used by the average person, so they aren't really necessary by any means. Congratulations on another fine release, hope you reply to my questions. Thanks.

You might have a valid point for more experienced users like yourself there allthough the average user would not uninstall en reinstall all the time I think. An option to not remove the dash would be possible but then n00bs could easily be confused and mess up later installs after that. I always thought of the dash as part of a softmod in contrary to storage files like apps and games. A backup is also quickly made and replaced after the install.

[quote]

In my believe such a thing is not possible with unleashx scripting. When a script actually executes (which is needed for such a checkup) you can not go back to option scripts. (all options need to be made prior to executing scipts). Then again you could implement an option in the install process but i really wanted to keep the install as simple as possible.

yup I understand your request and I'm glad you understand the installer is more intended for the average n00b user. The more experienced user could simply resolve such problems by himself

I put the password in there since from the extras you have certain abilities that little kids or other person should not touch. The user could remove or edit the password in the script.

Even though I like technical aspect of the UDDAE I don't see any use for it. The user now has all functions it needs for live or non-live usage all without the use of a game.

Amazingly enough, after my issues yesterday with upgrading the eeprom, Textbook beat me to my suggestion for the "professional mode" option....where hidden apps would be held such as ConfigMagic and NDTS :-D

I'd also like to toss in a vote for the dashboard backup....perhaps in the extras, before an upgrade? maybe an option to "backup all settings" creates a copy of your Dashboard folder in E:\Backups, and when the upgrade is completed and option to "Restore Backup Dashboard" will over-write the old settings. it would be nice to have this in teh "professional mode." Even simple backing up of the major xml files would be a help, ESPECIALLY if the can have the filename or folder name ammended to include the date.

Totally agree with you on that such options would confuse newbies....not a newbie, but on occasion i forget that some of the people i have modded boxes for are a lil more advanced than others, and do their own thing with them....i've been yelled at before about settings being missing, especially with dashboards besides UnleashX/EvoX

i've gotten my eeprom issue fixed, and i've gotten all the hard drives into the right systems....this should be interesting smile.gif
krayzie
I dunno about hidden apps or stuff. I'll just put an option to load the dashboard in unprotected mode so whatever you do out of the dash does not conflict with the virtual eeprom/ C

I'll think about the dashboard thing and see if I can come up with something usefull and easy to use.
Maybe an extra dashboard backup in the backups folder so people can restore their dash easily after something happens.

you can add two files to E:\
EEPROM_off.bin (to reflash eeprom)
swadowC_off.bin (then to update the eeprom.bin file NKP uses)
then delete when your done
you will need to replace the eeprom.bin file with the new one after you reflash it and reset the language (use a dash backup function to get a configured copy of it) wink.gif

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&...dpost&p=3061415

@Krayzie, i do see some work to get this working in a script, every time you reflash the eeprom
the MS dash wants you to reset the language and may cause problems of not done

krayzie
hmm yeah guess I will have to ad a new backup and replace eeprom script too then. Havin the eeprom with
some unset values eliminates the coldbooting of retail discs.

I used this Ndure installer and it was awesome. Easy to use and really neat.

Now I ask this question... how does it work?
Does this load up a secondary bios to do the modding or does it just make the box run secondary sets of files?

Does the xbox even touch the C: anymore?

Its very nice and made my life easy to install it but im now just curious about how it was all pulled together.
A Murder of Crows
Hey krayzie, do you think it might be time to clean up this thread and prep to lock it down? A lot of the information returned here has been/will be addressed in 1.1, and the rest can be put into a 1.0 FAQ should people still want it. In my time here, i've seen that there is a LOT of old/outdated/bad info and it can cause quite a bit of confusion to those who are just getting their feet wet.

I can't give all the details, but you can read a lot about the mod method used for this installer by searching for NDure in the forums....That will tell you how the exploit works and what it does.

Yes, the xbox does use the C drive, especially in the boot process. With this mod, a file is created called ShadowC.img, and that resides on the C drive. this file is loaded and the xbox thinks it's the actual C drive. the files are safe because they are all virtual.....if you delete them, when you restart the box, the ShadowC.img file is reloaded and all the files return. In modded mode, the box loads shadowC and hides the actual C. This leaves the M$ dash essentially untouched, allowing for use on Live when you coldboot.

Krayzie's installer seems to be the most easy to use of any exploit installer ever...it's simple for even a n00b like me to understand (i got my first box in july or so, modded with Krayzie's UXE in 1 week...was going to get SCUEEE, but then NDure came).

you could delete the virtual C and eeprom but it won't do you much good. especially not since withhout the virtual eeprom the real eeprom is write protected. you can temporarily switchh off those features by loading the installer menu so you could see your real C when you ftp in.

And it doesn't use a bios it uses a bios patcher and for the led to go to green just get a dash that sets it to green or wait for version 1.1

Told you I might be able to look into this further, so I completely removed my softmods and started fresh with a 1.1 basic install. One thing I thought was a word choice issue. Just a message to the user, after selecting EvoX/UnleashX, after testing for 5960 successfully, and before testing for EEPROM backup.

QUOTE

The following test checks the presence of the eeprom backup. When you see an error screen it means you haven't taken the BACKUP EEPROM option. Proceed?

I think "performed" would be a better word choice. I know it's pretty nit-picky, but I notice little things like that.

There are just some things you can only notice with a clean install. I messed around with the Extras quite a bit last time, and there is something I didn't notice before that I noticed with a clean install. When choosing multiboots in which it goes to a altdash (dual-alt or tri-alt), the E:/Dashboard/altdash/ directory isn't created. E:/Dashboard remains the same. I was positive that this directory was created with NDURE 1.0, so I checked the config for both 1.0 and 1.1 multi-alt's.

This function will be active on the next bootup.

Basically, you just need to make sure you add that dummy.xbe file in the /files/ directory, and then do the same as you did before, copy it to a folder (creating that folder) and then delete it, leaving just the folder behind.

ok well English is still not my native language so I guess I don't have the same feel for such things as you do so I will change it.

About the altdash. I skipped the creation of the folder since there are more then one bootpaths for the altdash and not just E:\dashboard\altdash. I figured creating only the altdash folder in the dashboard directory looks strange since people don't neccessarily have to put it there.

I never knew that, and I'm sure nobody could tell. Your English is nearly flawless. Congrats on that, as I know it must have been hard to learn, our rules are stupid sometimes.

Ok, as long as the non-creation was done on purpose and not accidentally forgotten. Just checking.

Any other changes we may see in the final?

My tutorial's in the works. I just need to obtain a copy of Splinter Cell and I'll have video tutorials for every game's softmod plus extras. Look for it soon biggrin.gif

Thanks to krayzie for a fantastic installer and for allowing me to beta test.
smiffy1989
i dont even think a tutorial is necessary. im a complete noob and still managed it. lol. good to see people helping out the noobies tho. biggrin.gif
jebus989
We have already made ndure softmod videos for all three games, with optional subtitles biggrin.gif

Its just a shame i can't link anyone.

Hi all, Just wanted to thank Krayzie for all the work. I'm a complete n00b at this too but I got tired of asking a mate to mod for me. The Krayzie_Ndure_SC_Pal_1.0 installer I used was easier than I could ever imagine. So, thank you again for looking after us new starters. Really looking forward to trying out v1.1 when its released.

I just have one other question, and forgive me if its been asked before but I just want to make double-y sure. How exactly should I turn on/boot the xbox to use xbox live safely? I am using Original Discs obviously for live games and not backups but I just dont want to get banned. Do I need to go into M$Dash? Or power on with eject button? Thanks in advance people.

Hey Krayzie, first would like to thank you for all your time you've spent on this project of yours smile.gif However, I seem to have problems with the final installation of the mod. I'm currently using your 1.0 PAL Splinter Cell version; I'm able to back up the eeprom and install the mod fine. However the problem comes when it says that the only thing left now is activating your shadow C, You will be taken to the activation screen automatically. When I press ok the console turns off, but when I next boot it up I get the message: "Your Xbox requires service. Please call Xbox customer support" and the light on the Xbox flashes Green & Red. I'm then unable to use any of the options like turn off soft mod when booted back to the exploit so I'm just left with uninstall mod. I've tried a few times but still the same problem.

Just wondering if you can help me come over this obstacle, thanks!

The safest way is to coldboot (put your game in the drive, close drive, power off xbox, power on your xbox with power button). This way the exploit is not triggered.
hobogoonie
Nice one Bigsteel, thanks for your help. The safest way sounds good to me! Theres no chance of a ban then on a softmodded xbox like this then? (Original game, Ndure, EvoX).

Cheers again.

Was it ever softmodded before? you could load the exploit then ftp eeprom to your pc and use xboxhdm and the stock C: files off of slayers to rebuild the drive then lock it back up and then you shouldnt have any problems.

I've been using the krayzie ndure installer for a few months now, with a 100% success rate on a bunch of xboxes. However, I am now trying to install the softmod on a v1 xbox (really old, and runs like crap) but it is not loading the saved game. I am using splinter cell, the game I have used on every xbox, and I am using the same saved game that I used on every xbox. I first deleted the splinter cell saved games off the xbox, then I copied the saved game files from the memory card to the HD. Took out the memory card, rebooted into the game, and I went to new game. It finds the linux profile, and loads it. Then it comes up with the screen to load a checkpoint or a level. Normally something is listed under checkpoints, but nothing is there. When I hit 'A' when checkpoints is highlighted, the xbox just freezes.

I tried this 3 times and it will not work. I recopied the saved games from my computer to the memory card, and still no go. The data is not corrupted because I tried it on another xbox since the broken one and it was successful.

Any ideas why it doesn't load the checkpoint in Splinter Cell (yes, it is the original game that has worked every time before)? The xbox was never modded in any way before.

Thanks for all your hard work, krayzie. Hopefully we can find a solution or the 1.1 version will work for this box.
krayzie
does it have strange video cables/settings?
DaFilthee
Actually, this one is using the high def audio/video connection pack. I didn't even think that it could be cuasing the problem. I'll try to swap it out with standard RCA cables when I get home.

Thanks for all your help and hard work!

It won't be necessary when we finally stop having the from page of this forum filled with topics of "LOLZ HOW DOZ I M_0D my b0x!" Or similar tongue.gif

Mind trying to find those? I guess I missed them.

Epaige - Nah never been modified in anyway before. I'm able to uninstall the mod fine allowing me to go back to normal with the M$ dashboard. I was just hoping to be able to use this mod to use MC & Emulation. I might just hold out till 1.1 to see if it makes any difference, if not then I'll have to try something else out.

Yep, that's what did it. It worked fine with the standard RCA cables.

Thanks.
