Hi,

Just bought a used xbox (pal v1.2), softmodded it, and upgraded the hard drive.
I tried to install Indy car 2005 on the hd using ftp. It didn't work, and I found later I needed to patch default.xbe (bought the box only 1 week ago ... noob unsure.gif )
Without the patch however, it did go to the title screen of this game, and told me the disc was dirty, blah blah.

I then tried to burn it and boot the box with it. The box hung on the xbox logo.

I tried again to run it from hard drive, but every time I try to run it, it doesn't go to title screen anymore, but instead restart unleashX ! huh.gif
I tried for two days (including wiping out completely the drive, reinstalling it, reinstalling the game many times, I can't manage to start the game. If this was only for the game, I wouldn't mind, but I'm afraid booting on the dvd ran dashupdate.xbe (I didn't know at this moment I needed to fill the c drive to prevent update...)

Here is what afraid me the most :
Before softmodding, MS Dashboard gave me 5101 and 5960 as versions.
Now, it gives me 5838 and 5960 !

Does this mean the kernel went updated ? blink.gif
Would it causes any harm or incompatibility ?

Or is it the result of the softmodding that makes ms dash think it is a 5838 ?

Please help, I can't afford a new xbox sad.gif

Thanks for all...

Why don't you install the game with the disc. You do own the original, right?

This sounds like obvious piracy. Make sure you read the rules.

Sorry if it looks like it, I just always use backup dvd to keep my originals, had some bad luck with my old ps2 scratching dvds, and never use my originals directly.

But could someone explain this behaviour ?

Thanks,

Gummy

It DID NOT update the kernal version. The dash on the other hand has been updated. If your softmod is running fine then there is no reason to touch anything

Just use your original disk, rip it to the HDD with maybe a different DVD drive [if you can get your hands on 1]

And maybe use a softmod package such as krazies

Edit: Spelling

And we are not here to help piracy mate =)

Thanks guys, it makes me feel better about my box.

I didn't want to offend anyone.

But I think I will try to reproduce the entire procedure, I don't like the feeling of not fully understanding what happened.

Thank you,

Gummy

Put the original disc in the drive and use DVD2Xbox to back up the game. that is all thats needed.
It would appear from your post and replies you cannot do that for some reason
