It isnt hooked up yet but i thought i would show off what i have done so far today. It is a 32 UV inward and outward led ring. It is not hooked up yet becuase i dont have the time to do that today, i have to go to work soon. So all i did was make the ring, measure out where each led going, put them in the ring, and soldered them in parallel. I split it up it up in two halfs so the inward is 16 leds and the outward is 16 leds and both halfs will be hooked up to a 5v source with a 2.7ohm resistor for each half. When its all hooked up i think it should look very nice biggrin.gif

With everything soldered but the led legs not cut.

How it looks with the legs cut and finished. Now i just gotta hook up the +/- wires and give it some power. But that is for another day. How does it look guys?
atomheartmother
very bright potential..lol beerchug.gif

Looks good, must have taken some time to do that. Just make sure there is no contact between the positive and negative, I know this is noob advice tongue.gif anyway, what color are you planning to put in there? smile.gif
brokenglass
dude, you stole my idea, i was building one as you posted this.
blue bandicoot
that is going to be bright as hell....sweet stuff!! I LOVE BRIGHT!!!
Arjun
What are you going to use? Like a 1ohm resistor?

resistors dot com tongue.gif
speed_racer88
with that hooked up you wont even need to turn your light on, good job beerchug.gif
haloloser
i dont think its going to be super bright. i think it will give a nice glow, but they are uv leds. they are much more dimm then other color leds. you did a great job with it. what did you actually solder them to?
SpookieStylez
Pringles top?

having the inside ring a different colour to the outside ring would look heaps good i rekon

Nice job man. Never would have tought about using 32 leds for a jewel ring a little overboard in my book but you sure did take the idea and run with it beerchug.gif
FoxRacR17
Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, it took about 2 hours from start to finish. What i used as the "backbone" for the ring is a little small circular ring from a ziplock container. However using a pringles lid is a very good idea also. Yeah, I wanted a inward and outward led ring, and i know that 8 leds is the most common, but that just wasnt cutting it for me, so i decided to double it and put 16 inward and 16 outward. I think it turned out just nice. I'll post pics as soon as i get it installed, but i'm afraid that wont be for another day or two, i start school tomorrow sad.gif

EDIT: The resistor i calculated that i needed was a 2.7ohm 1watt resistor for each half of the ring. And sickmods.net had some 2.7ohm 2watt resistors so i got two of em for this ring biggrin.gif (Thanks for the fast shipping by the way! It was like next day!)

I can't wait to see it lit up!
It'll be sooooo smooth, unlike the choppy 8 led ones
FoxRacR17
Just a little tease: I found some time today and i managed to get it installed and it looks..........AMAZING! Ill have some pics up of it within the next half hour.

Ok, here they are, the pics of the first 32 led jewel ring:

Here my xbox turned on but with the leds turned off, you can see the ring around the jewel.

And here it is with the leds turned on and the lights still on! Pretty freakin bright!

And with the leds turned on but the lights turned off.

Now, as always the pictures dont do this any justice but remember that these are UV leds and they are only 2000MCD so they arent the brightest out there, but believe it or not they are definatly brighter then the UV CC i use to have under the jewel. With the UV CC turned on with the lights on you could bearly tell but these leds, as you can see, are freakin bright even with the lights on. The best part is that with 16 inward leds the light hits everywhere just like the CC, i was looking at the jewel lit up and the 16 leds actually do it better then the CC! I am now a LED man! lol. How do you guys like it?

FoxRacR17
Thanks for the comments guys. I really did take my time with this mod and made sure that everything was near perfection. You can see in this picture what i used and how i figured out where to postion each led

Lol, kinda lame but thats what i get for having 5 years of math in 4 years of high school. I made my circle and then split it up into 16 parts. Each inward led was 22.5 degrees apart from eachother that way there were just the right distance apart. And each outward led was between the inward leds and they also were 22.5 degrees apart. I wanted it to be nice and even and i think i achieved that. Again thanks for the comments guys. beerchug.gif
