Someone gave me an Xbox with a failed hard drive, and I was thinking that I would be able to do a soft-mod on an unlocked 10 gig hd I obtained from ebay.

It seems that the secret to making this work is getting the eeprom data off a working hard drive using the game save exploit, then creating a disk image (using xboxhdm_v1.9) and copying that to the new hard drive, but since I don't have a working HD to begin with it won't work.

Bottom line: Is there a way to obtain the eeprom data when you don't have a working drive to start with (or any other suggestions on how I can install a new drive and make a working Xbox)?

Help appreciated!

You can only softmod an xbox with a locked working hard drive..

You need a chip. Yes it's your only option
