Full Version: Macrovision On Divxs?

I have seen posts in X-S and in other forums about copying from DVD to VHS or from XBMP to VHS, and from what I can tell DVDX2 and an Xecuter2 lite mod together will remove macrovision from DVDs. The problem is that I want to copy DivXs to VHS, and even though as far as I know DivXs don't have macrovision, the recording was obviously corrupted by macrovision.

Am I right in thinking that xboxes normally put macrovision on all outputted signals, and with the mod chip that stops and allows DVD software to remove macrovision too? If so should I be getting macrovision on my divx recordings, and is there a way to solve it.

FYI I was recording LoTR-TTT, a very good quality xvid copy too I might add (purely for testing purposes of course smile.gif)

Thanks,

sure that vacrovision cannot be present in DivX movies.

If it is a case of macrovision your would see the coruption while you were copying it.

If you are only seeing the corruption when you play the VHS copy, then the problem lies elseware, mayby bad cables/connection dirty record head or somthing.

Yeah thats what I thought. The video works fine (have been using it fine before and after this) - its quite clearly a macrovision problem - poor sync, dodgy sound, the normal. It views fine through the video (but so does our normal LG DVD player), its just the recording.

As I put above, I have also posted this in the mod chip chat to see if it is an issue with my mod, as I think xboxes macrovision their output normally.

I tried recording a DivX to VHS and got what is probably the same problem - the picture and sound kind of 'warble'. I haven't tested yet, but I have a sneaky feeling it might be a 50 vs 60 Hz thing. Being in UK my video will be 50 Hz, but my Xbox is set to 60 Hz. I'll try setting the Xbox to 50 Hz before recording and seeing if it works - you might want to look into similar things (depending on where in the world you are).

Ahh now thats an idea...

Can u report back on any success plz? I'll be interested to know if that works. (I am in the UK too)

Just tested recording onto VHS in 50 Hz (using the MS dash to turn off PAL60) and it works fine. So, it's not a Macrovision thing after all. Hope this helps!

in my experience that quite clearly is not macrovision. macrovision fades the picture from dark to light continously, it does not effec the sound

Thanks all, hopefully that will sort it. I suppose it was obvious now I think about it, but I never thought of that!
