ok i started doing my controller port leds and i thought of a very good way to get them inside comfortably no problem. First i took off the flap at the back of the port..covered the inside with tape...and then made this thing.....

heres another pic

it works perfectly and just slides in....
PS...i know i suck at soldering

looks like it would work. is there a tut for controller port leds? im thinking of doing them myself. cheers

i like it i think its better to use 2 and find a good way to fit them then to only use one

when you put the resistor in, did u put it on the positive side, or the negative? according to the led resistor calculator, it goes negative.. but i dunno..

The resistor can go anywhere in the circuit, so it can be on either side.

yeah, for a while my tut use to be the star of controler port led tuts.... but since then, the star has faded. the link is still good though:

heres the best way, i use 3 leds per port when requested.

your way looks to much work and waste of time. then i make sure no metal is touching and fill the port with hot glue enough so you can still close it.
TheTik
Aug 31 2005, 03:02 PM
i would do it like that but i have differnent ports than u....i have a 1.0 box so the ports are all metal with the big plastic thing on top

If you are like me and have your xbox sitting alomost in front of you then you hate how the leds blind you, I took some pieces of plexi and cut them to fit and then sanded the hell out of them. Not only does it disperse the light better but i'm not blinded anymore.

I used the Tutorial by Timmy but i would like to put a switch on my controller port leds and wonder how would i go about doing this with having the least amount of wire used. Thanks in advance.

to do that you would have to connect all the Controller Port LED's in 1 circuit... not worth it if you ask me.

Well thanks for giving me no information on putting a switch in. I didn't ask if it was worth it or not. So anyone that actually has advice thanks in advance.

My.... .03 cents I guess
Thetik: Hey obviously it works for you so good job. You only need one 100 ohm resistor per circuit for 5v though, incase you didn't know.
TheTimmy: Your tut is still the best, It was the first one I saw back in the day. Everybody perfects their own way of doing it after practice. I fold my neg lead under the wires and attach to the other, then take the pos leads and the resistor lead and form a point in the back center \|/ <----kindo of like that. Works great.
lostboyz: That looks cool, you should paint the shielding with UV reactive paint for some cool effects.

Garbage like this only proves one thing... You are the immature jerk. Reported.
And Garett, I wired mine up in series, not the "purist" way to do it, and it did use a lot of wire, but it allowed me to add a switch. BTW, I used 4 3 volt led's, and drew power from the 12 volt line on the HDD molex. Hope that helps.

u can get a 2 way led toggle switch mount it in the back or something, and have all ur leds in parralell, just cut ur positive wire for ur leds and put switch in it.

i like this way a lot. its very easy, and then using hot glue i presume to make sure no negatives touch the positives when its closed. am i correct?

Credit given, its a great way to do this and i encourage him to keep modding. He has made alot of progress and he should be rewarded. And i agree, there are people that know more than me, im hear to learn. (people are gonna make stupid comments about what i just said, but i live with it)
