im wondering how to enable random playback of music files within the my muusic section of XBMC. iv looked around and cant seem to work out how..

Yes.

You create a playlist by pressing Y on every song you want to add (or press Y on a folder full of music files). Dang, playlist created.

Now press the black button (on your controller) and you'll see the playlist. Save it.

now you can either shuffle the playlist or play at random. The buttons for both options are on the left hand side of the screen.

that sounds all good, but theres no way to shuffle just an album of folder? all the files hafta be put in a playlist and then that playlist shuffled yeah?

"Album of a folder"? Playlists are up to you.

Queue up whatever files you want, from wherever you want (however much you want), and save them to a playlist. Set to Random and your golden.
