what does the fatx mean
This is the filesystem used on standard Xbox partitions. It is based on
FAT used in DOS/Windows

and the xbe will it be on the dash under like apps or do i have to use the file manager everytime
If you have an apps folder you will be given the option of coping XCromwell (the bootloader) here. Whether this turns up on your dashboard has nothing to do with X-DSL and is entirely down to the configuration of the dashboard.

i want to have like the linux system run fully off of my 20 gig that way i can have my 120 gig plugged in for games and shit then when i want to have linux plug the 20 gig in and turn it on
and have it goto linux with the least amount of steps to launch it i dont care about the 20 gig being able to play games i want the 20gig to be a linuxbox if you get what i mean eventually i want to be able to have the 2 harddrives on a switch and choose the one i want versus having to change them out each time
If you want to dedicate the entire 20GB to a Linux partition then you need to use Cromwell as your BIOS. Any hacked MS BIOS will require that the standard Xbox partitions C,E,X,Y,Z exist. If you want to go down this route you'll also need to create the partitions you want manually as the native install routine for X-DSL assumes you wish to keep C,E,X,Y and Z.
