Look at your drive and compare it to these: http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/xbox_dv..._comparison.htm

Most people use DVD-R's or change the book-type on +r's. Do some research on this site and you will find what you need to know smile.gif

my sammy reads plus and minus but i use plus mostly because had a 100 pack to back up my dvd movies then i modded my box so its just easier to use em instead of having to buy pluses for my dvd/entertainment center and having to buy a diff set for my xbox

Hope this is of help :

My original black Xbox (Samusung drive) recently died.Fortunately, I have a crystal box (Phillips drive) too but when i softmod'ed it and tried to play my old backup's, it just did'nt want to know sad.gif

My old box only really liked Verbatim DVD-R's (which i discovered after trying lots of media brands), but my 1.6 crystal would'nt even recognise them. After a number of coasters, i'd pretty much given up on backup's.I had a few Maxell DVD-R's knocking around so thought i'd give them a try and to my suprise they work pretty flawlessly smile.gif

Anyway, i'd been having probs with constant DDE's on one of the new backup's but had run out of Maxell media so after reading this post, I thought i'd experiment with some DVD+R's that i had spare (Verbatim).I followed the advice on these forums and using my LiteOn drive and changing book type to DVD-ROM in DVD Decrypter, I gave it a try without expecting any success. However, not only did the disk burn without any retries (VERY rare in my experience), it also seemed to burn faster AND the end result works flawlessly WITHOUT any of the DDE's i was getting using previous media biggrin.gif

I realise not everyone will have the same luck, but it's certainly worth experimenting. All i use now are Verbatim DVD+R's, burned with DVD Decrypter and changed book type and they all work without fault on my 1.6 crystal machine smile.gif

Hope this is of some use to someone.

Cheers

@the original post, you need to spend some time reading my media thread. Click on the link in my sig and it will take you to it. Glass has it linked as well.
