Yup, I get to join the club along with the other unfortunate losers who were too cheap to buy a modded drive and ended up with a Thompson/Phillips Paper weight.
Here is my experience....
I took the resistance mesurements with a Multi meter... the tutorial was a bit vague and mostly misleading.... I got 1.522 for resistance... I pulled it down to 1.480 and still nothing... so I went to 1.350 and It started to read CD-r which it didnt used to but still no DVD-RW... so I made it go a little lower... and um well yeah the pot was smoked... as in dead (*no actual smoke occured, it was a metaphor)
So unless reading CD-r, when you could already do CD-rw is Uber cool and awsome.... DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS MOD.
On a scale of 1-10 I rate this a 11 in stupid things to attempt.
IT IS NOT WORTH IT!
Alright, everybody get in line and lets start the flaming! No worries you will get your turn....

Just because you failed, doesn't mean no one should try to do it.

I don't really know actually, I just like the word.
I couldn't think of some other unfunny overly-used one liner to use.

All you did is repeat what Iamcanadian said. Is that what you consider a useful post?
But just to be on topic, Im going to copy and paste another persons post and consider it useful since apparently thats how it works..

Stop flaming eachother!!!!
BTW, saying not to try one mod, is like saying you messed up your case with a dremel, and saying dont ever try case modding..
There are chances, and unfortunatly, yours was bad.

That's actually a great analogy. I'd sig it but my sig is getting quite large and reaching the limit.
Or saying you messed up on soldering so dont ever chip your xbox

your sig is already too long

according to the rules, only 4 lines of test
I think it should be 6

Just because you failed means only means YOU failed, not that this mod should not be attempted.DVD drives are all diffrent, 1 outta 10 drives might not make it past the first tweak, but you shouldnt discourage other modders if this mod should be necessairy.

Funny
I have a Samsung as well, and it reads pretty much everything I throw at it. Only problem I've had was the lens being dirty, cleaned it and it's worked great ever since.

My pot tweaked Thompson is the best drive I have right now, reads everything. I use it in my personal Halo xbox.
Pot tweaking is not for newbs. You can't just "turn the pot a little" and hope it works.
