But its the type I don't mind beerchug.gif

They said the cars are comprised of 80,000 polys..

in reality they are around 96,000 with some being over 100,000 tongue.gif

it's too early and still in developement, the final version should have less polys biggrin.gif

its too early?? the game is almost done, how is it too early?? if anything im sure its a safe bet to that if they had the final hardware from the start, they would have even more polys in the cars if they found it necessary

i think they always stated 80k polys to be safe because thats the least amount of polys used in some of the cars
whiteblur67
wow technology has got a crap lot better

the sega dreamcast would only animate one car at 30 frames per second!!!

100,000 ploygons X 30 frame per second =3,000,000 polygons per second
which is the dreamcast's top rendering power
Deftech
lol kage, why do you bother tongue.gif

technology has gotten a crap load better, thats why i laugh at anyone calling the 360 a xbox 1.5.

BTW the Dreamcast was able to render more then 3 million polys a second, sega was just stating the base number. in reality the system could render around 10 million polys but the SH-4 CPU in the DC cant handle the geometry so the real world figures for the polygon performance is around 6-7 million polys per second. Test Drive Le Mans was one of the last and greatest racing games released for the system and that game was confirmed to push over 5 million polys per second

just some food for thought. pop.gif

Oh my god! OH UNACCEPTABLE! THEY MUST HAVE 80,000! grr.gif I'm too mad for words! grr.gif

I half-assed thought it was something bad like there was really no PGR3 and Bizarre just played a cruel joke biggrin.gif

I haven't been here in a while

SOFTIMAGE.... interesting that they use that, I would have figured Alias Wavefront or 3DS MAX.

I wonder what would be the maximum number of polygons that car can hold (NOT what 360 can/cannot handle and/or PS3)?

Thats more theory than a real number. It is similar to the question "how small is a point".

lol...sorry for asking stupid question, it's just me that I would like to see a 3D picture (created with any program) set to the max (whatever).

Again, sorry. I am not familiar with that kind of stuff. smile.gif

i dont think we'll need further then 200,000-300,000 polygons for photorealistic car shapes

But there are unlimited polygons on a real car! Forget photorealistic, we'll get to realistic in the next-next gen! muhaha.gif
rasmithuk
It'll be interesting if people start using b-splines/NURBS meshes and then getting the 360 to generate the polygon meshes as MS said a while back.
I know that it's possible to do but I'm just thinking that it would make things a lot more complicated since you'ld have to links bones to patches rather the points and link them later on.
Of course the advantage is that they're be smaller models so maybe it will. I suspose that it just depends on how efficently they can be generated (I remember reading that you can lock cache blocks to stream content like this about without trashing the cache).

Have to see if Wavefront still exists in a year or so, with Autodesk buying Alias.
~jeff~
I'm confused, is more polygons bad, or is it better??? I would assume it to be better.

VariableElite
A model rendered with more polygons has the potential to be of higher quality than the same model rendered with fewer polygons. However, developers are limited to what they can eke out of the processor. Most gaming consoles have what is sometimes referred to as a polygon budget, where anything over that amount can lead to FPS loss and slowdown.

The fact that Bizarre used models that were 25% more detailed than anticipated (and announced) is pretty impressive.

especially seeing as its a launch title smile.gif

Can anyone say 200,000 polys on a Toyota Tercel in PGR4? laugh.gif
NOTNIKLE
Ah, the Toyota Tercel, one of the most popular cars to be Mexed out.

Remember that this is a LAUNCH title. Launch titles are usually bad compared to titles released later. Can you possibly IMAGINE what the games for Xbox360 will be like late next year and the year after? Jesus its gonna be awesome. Its gonna be so funny when we look back on the 360 in a few years time and laugh at it and say 'Ohhh boy wasn't the 360 and PS3 crap' Hahahaha I remember saying that about Playstation when PS2 came out and when Xbox came out I dissed PS2. Lol can't wait to have that happen again with the launch of 360 and PS3 smile.gif
KAGE360
if there are 6 cars all at around 120,000 (after damage modeling adds a few thousand polys) that would equal only 21,600,000 running at 30fps. if the specs are true of the 360 pushing 500 million polys then that would leave 478,400,000 for the city alone and im sure they dont even come close to using that many for a launch title. just putting all this in perspective makes it scary to think what they could pull off in a year or two. blink.gif

Me to... how the hell do you get off saying that the 360 is just an xbox juiced up. Hell NO. Did any one see G4tv.com show about X05. They just totally riffed on the xbox 360 and the launch games. Saying "A lot of people believe that 360 is just xbox 1.5. Nothing new brought to the table." If I hear someone else say that, I'm going to reach my hand strait into my LCD screen. I "believe" it will come out of there CRT monitor, and slap them in the face. grr.gif

Hmmm PGR2 was one of the launch titles for Xbox, and compared to many games on Xbox nowadays, it still looks great. wink.gif
Deftech
PGR was a launch title, PGR 2 came out 2 years later. But Yes, PGR 2 holds its own against most current titles smile.gif

Look at the graphical jump between 1 and 2...thats why Im excited for part 4 beerchug.gif
