Yes Mod chip, and Tsop, but I prefer a chip.
My favorite chip to date is Xecuter 3.

only one other person TSOP'd? come on now! i just dont see the point of a modchip unless you need to disable for Live (and have a 1.2-1.5)
i think this poll would be better as "did yo umod your own xbox" as opposed to have someone else do it for you

Started with a chip but all my other xbox's have been TSOPs. TSOPs are fun to do because you don't need to order a chip. I get an xbox and in no time at all, it's modded. Of course it only works on the older models.

Modchips here, mates.

1 regular Xenium, 2 ICEs, and 2 X3s.
All self-soldered. All painless. Sold my first three boxes. I have two ATM. I used an autoinstaller for my first go around before I realized how easy it is to do things myself.

I thought about doing that along with softmods and Linux. I guess I just got hooked on chips. I might give it a go for my next one. We all know Xboxes are like Lay's potato chips: you can't
mod just one.

I disagree...with the x3 you have debug capabilties without having to reflash anything. you also have multiple bios support if that's what you're into. Quick, easy, sexy.

TSOP of course.
Why spend money on a chip when you already have one you can flash right there on the motherboard.

I initially flashed my TSOP, then moved onto chips. I still do more TSOP's than anything as nobody around here cares that much about LIVE. Never softmodded and probably never will.

X3 Rox My Box!
I had 1 xbox before with a X2.3b Pro and I sold it to one of my friends and I bought another xbox and modded it with a X3, then I bought another and also modded with a X3, XLCD, and pro switch.
I'm Xecuter all the way.
I cant wait to buy a Xbox 360 and mod it, hopefully Team X makes a chip for it.

I'm interested to see how many people actually have modded Xboxes.
Hopefully this poll stays open long enough to get a decent count.

I softmodded my own xbox, chips aren't that easy to come by here and I have never soldered andything in my life, so i'd have to by an iron anyway.
Softmod taught me how it all works as I did it more as a project to learn something than the actual uses, however XBMC has more than made that thought redundant.

shoudl be another poll, because i didnt mod my box, i had someone do it.. paid $80, talked down from 100 for xecuter 2.3 lite, with some emulators (atari, genesis)
did 2 softmods tho... those are pretty damn easy for a quick fix of exploitation.

Softmod; want to do a TSOP with a switch on my 1.0...but can't figure out what to solder, where to put the switch...none of the guides are really that in-depth.

They all show the same solder points picture that's been tossed around Xbox-scene for the last 3 years and say "here's the solder points"...but does that mean I solder each and every one together into one big clump of wire?
I'm puzzled.

well id rather leave the tsop alone, so that i can remove the modchipo and the 200gb hard drive i have in it, and it is stock (on the software side of things anyway)

Ahhhhhh brings me back a few days.
1st'ly i followed the linux softmod installer and love xebian, then progressed to xbox-scene.
There i shortly got a good ol' softmod, and now a TSOP with 4 banks controlled by 2 switches inder the grill thing.
I want a chip but money....ah glorious money...
I'm going to later remove the TSOP and implement NkPatcher with Xbox Live capability!
yes thats my life story.

I must say that at this point I am surprised by the amount of chippers. By looking at the board, you'd think everyone had a softmod. I guess they just have more problems

Oh my I can not belive that many people still buy mod chips! Either way its your choice, but softmods and TSOP's are FREE and softmods are now xbox live safe.
1st choice = TSOP
2nd choice = NDURE softmod if its a 1.6
= No mod chips used here!!
50+ TSOP's still going strong

Yeah well My box has been doen all 3, First softmod (gay) - Tried to watch a movie.. dash update.. no more gay softmod.. Knda my own fault though. then I had a chicp which was ok, it was solderless and I hated it, fucked around with a few more chips, then i decided to tsop it ... I wil never put a chip in a box again unless I have to.

Ha ha, softmodding is by far the easiest to do.
1. Don't have to open your Xbox
2. Fully Recoverable is you fail
3. Only take me 5 Minutes to do it

Just like on signature below but with new bioses.
Start with 29 wired eeprom (best for rescue TSOP r Eeprom), but from 2 years i have multi switched TSOP.
I can use 4x256, 2x512, 1x1024, r 2x256+1x512 bioses w/o buying a modchip.

Modchip all the way!
A little time + A little patience + a little skill (or learning) Soldering technique
= (Priceless) a mod that even M$ cannot undo with a little software. A modchip gives you so much more control over the settings with very little risk of truely screwing something up (provided you know how to solder a very little bit).
There is such a thing as doing it right the first time and for me that means Xecuter. Take a shortcut and you are likely going to "pay" for it later on one way or another.
If game developers go beyond putting long filenames in games so you can't play them off the HDD without modifying them, you might start seeing XBOXes that were softmodded getting softmodded back to original factory spec. That'll be funny.

2. All I need is Mech Assault and my 16MB Memory card. No Computer!
3. Fully Recoverable is you fail

Softmod is too easy. I use XBOXHD to configure a nice big hard drive with the UDE2 exploit. Pop it in & boot it up. Nothing to it.

Never done a softmod.. I've never really trusted something which could theoretically be rewritten by a simple dash update. I'd have people coming back to me left right and centre if that happened - asking what had happened and wanting it sorted.
I've done an Xecuter2 Pro, Xecuter2.6, 2x DuoX2's and about 8 TSOPS. TSOPs are by far the best as they're pretty simple (just done one this afternoon in 40mins incl. dashboard install etc) and parts cost is nil once you've got a memcard and 007:AUF or similar.
On any 1.6's I do a mod install along with a LPC rebuild board, and have no problem with using the cheapest chip I can find. DuoX2's seem to do me fine, occasionally an Xecuter if someone wants flashy lights.
