Full Version: How To Check My D0

Hi!
I'm suspecting that my d0 is broken since my xbox frags without the chip enabled. How can I check this? I've tried doing a contingency check with a multimeter and the multimeter indicates a good signal between the plug that goes into the chip and the end of the d0 trace on the back of the motherboard. But I'm not sure if the voltage used for the contingency check is too big to detect the problem (not sure what voltage is used on the multimeter)? I've measured the resistance from the plug to the end of the d0 trace to 0,2-0,3 ohms (which is exactly the same as between factory made points). I've also checked for shorts between the closest traces and the d0. I have a good connection between the plug to the chip and both the upper and lower d0 points on the board - and that seems logical to me...

To me this looks like the d0 is good - but I might be wrong?
Thanx for any help smile.gif

Measure from top D0 to bottom D0 (As it seems you have done). The continuity readings you have indicate all is well.
If there is a break in this the box would FRAG as well.

Ok - thank you for a very quick reply Chancer!

Now I'm a bit confused uhh.gif - cause the only reason I've found for the box to frag like this is bad d0 or shorts in the LPC - I've got a working d0 and no connection between any of the LPC solder points - and I've traced just about all traces I could find on the motherboard under a microscope - it's all clean:P

When I have the chip enabled only one of the two leds light up - if that makes sense to anyone:P But that doesn't really matter since the box frags the exact same way with the chip disabled (and all pins/d0 removed).

Does anybody know what else could be causing this problem?
Again - thank you for your help:)

Edit: The box worked all fine for 1 hour (with the chip) before I got this problem - then it suddently shut down and now it's fragging

Did the box previously work before the Mod attempt?
Just saw the edit.
Its likely something else has failed not related to the work you did.
A damaged D0 would show up straight away. I take it there is no error screen?

No there's no video output at all - so it's a bit hard to know where to start looking - since it all looks fine! I thought it could have something to do with heat expansion causing the solder points to loose contact (unlikely but possible) since it failed after approx 1 hour of use - but again - it then should have showed up when testing it with a multimeter. I modded another xbox afterwards and it all went well (it's been used for several hours and still working) - with the exact same procedure.

Thank you!

I would say you have to completely remove the modchip and all wires, check again if all looks ok try the box. If it still does not work this could be just down to random failure of something like the video encoder

I've tried removing everything I installed and there is almost no trace of a modchip(except a very small amount of tin left in the lpc holes, and an even smaller amount of tin left on the surface of the d0 point on the back of the card)- so I suppose we're down to a random failure - which again means that I have to search for a new motherboard (Anyone needs to get rid of one? tongue.gif). I don't suppose replacing the video encoder is DIY work? - and the warranty is basicly thrown out of the window after opening those lid screws (which "just happened" to be underneith the serial label -wonder why rolleyes.gif )

Thank you for outstanding support:)
