get XMLTV, it says the website in the xbmp (cvs) readme from a while back, then read the instructions how to use and you will learn you have to type xmltv tv_grab_uk
as for the people who want an aus tv grabber i will see if i can find one for you!

There is none unfortunately, well, strictly speaking, there was one from a guy called Justin Hawkins, but he had to pull it because he was asked to by the online guide that it was grabbing from, I don't believe it did the pay stuff, but believe me, lately I've been thinking about a crash course in Perl script......but I can't be bothered

Anyone cluey with perl like to write one up for us battling Aussies?
I'll give you a list of sites to grab from!

Now we are putting things into motion.
Unfortunately i don't know how to code anything cept stupid HTML that school taught me.
Im going to get a big thick hacky mucky book one of these days and learn how to code something interesting like C++ or something.

Im happy to give this a go - i've a bit of Perl experience and in Australia. Currently using an old version of Justin's script for another project that needs XmlTV - but i'll stop using it just in case they are recording requests from his script (using browser headers or whatever).
Someone give me a list of aussie sites I can scrape from ?

Hi serialmonkey
I'm glad someone in Aus knows abit about this. The only Perl I know is what I learnt getting the Hawkins script going myself, and believe me it isn't alot.

G'day Serialmonkey
www.ebroadcast.com.au/tv/ (whic is what I believe Justin originally grabbed from)
www.yourtv.com.au/ very good
www.sofcom.com.au/ also very good
www.tvguide.com.au/
Let us/me know when you've cobbled something together, happy to be a beta guinea pig

so let me get this straight...
if we can get hold of a XML compiled version of AUS TV guides we can view them on XBMP???
Dahhhhhhhhhm, that would be WAY cool.
good luck guys

Hey everyone,
I've got 2 days off from work so I'll have a bit of a bash at it.
Can someone explain how XBMP integrates with XmlTv ? I've only ever used it on Freevo before (www.freevo.org). I'll do a bit of a search anyway and see what I find.

In fact, Justin was sourcing from sofcom.com.au ..... which is powered by ebroadcast. YourTv and NineMSN are powered by HWW (a content aggregation provider) and I imagine they definatly won't like us using their data considering it's actually their business reselling XML feeds.
That leaves tvguide.com.au which looks like it's closed. If I can't find any other sites i'll probably just use yourtv and see if they catch on :-)

Ahh righto serial, I don't have a copy of his script so I wasn't quite sure where it scraped from.

There hasn't been much noise on the progress of this tv guide in a while. Whats the word?

If you have an copy of Justins script, adding Pay TV is easy - you just need to change two lines.
Currently there is no freely available xmltv grabber for Australia, until someone writes a script etc. to grab from one of the other sites.
Interestingly the Tivo users get their guide data from Ebroadcast, but I have no idea how many do this, as there is a person who updates the tivo guide slices weekly and put's onto a web site.
Wonder why they have not been asked to stop ??
Due to size of listing.xml it would not be feasable for one person to grab for each area and put on a web site.
FTA with a Pay TV listing can be 4Mb +
Plus the amount of time to grab for each area would be a problem too.

Im still looking into it.
Can someone explain to me, or point me to a tutorial, on how XMLTv works with XBMP ? This will help me test it out.
Thanks,

Ive managed to modify the Hawkins script to work properly. It was trivial to add PayTV support. Google cache is your friend if you want to get hold of the script

Dense,
We were not trying to add PayTV support, we were trying to write a new Script as Hawkins has had to remove his due to the source web-site asking him to cease-and-desist scraping their site.
If we start using this on-mass for Xbox feeds then EBroadcast won't be too happy - considering they can probably tell who is using his script via the way it requests data.
Just would be nice to have an alternative source anyway.
