|Following on from the news that it's possible to run unsigned applications on the Xbox by using a loophole in EA's Agent Under Fire, crackers have discovered how to mod the system without a physical modchip.|
The new system breaks open the Xbox for running third-party applications (including the Linux operating system) or pirated games just as effectively as standard mod chips, but the only physical alteration needed to the box is a very minor soldering task to link up two jumper points on the system board.
This then allows the user to flash the original BIOS chip on the Xbox itself - rather than installing a replacement BIOS to bypass the original chip, as most Xbox mod chips do.
This latest development is likely to make the modification of Xboxen even cheaper and easier than it was previously - in fact, it's such a simple procedure that we can easily envisage people modding your Xbox "while you wait" at various dodgy computer fairs or market stalls around the country, in much the same way that mobile phones can be unlocked in mere minutes for only a few pounds.
It remains to be seen how MS plans to respond to this new form of cracking attempt on the Xbox; it's one thing to shut down the sale of mod chips, but it's effectively impossible to prevent the distribution across the Internet of the simple instructions and files required to mod the console in this way.
Is this old news/a hoax? Because a Xbox modification would become so much easier (allright it's already) to install if it's real. Just solder two pieces to eachother et voila. Enlighten me!

Read the whole thing, this is the 007 hack ain't it?
Apr 16 2003, 01:38 PM
it is based on the 007 hack....
been lots of misleading stories....
as you all know bridging the tsop flash points is one thing.
and very easy....
the whole 007 thing is a tad more difficult.
inc the hotswapping of powered on HD's and messing about with Linux partitions.

It's a BREEZE to do with an 8 meg memory card.
You load the save game onto the card, on another machine.
Then you can transfer it to the Xbox to be modded via the MS Dashboard.
Finally jumper the two points, then flash away via FTP.
No mod chip required and simple to do.
It's far easier than trying to align a Matrix chip!

Word of warning though. Never use this method if you intend on using the box XboxLive. You will get banned.

Not entirely true....
couldn't you make a multi-bios that is 1 meg and flash it on to the, then make a switch using the guides?

yes you can. there are just too many people out there that want to scare people into not modding their console and especially flashing their tsop that they provide this anti-mod propaganda.

I have tried this method using the memory card numerous times using new and old versions of the save and linux live but to no avail. Can you boot linux without being connected to your pc ? I already have a mod but I would love to see this work on a virgin xbox as I am very curious to see peoples work involving all of this kinda thing. I am good at following directions but maybe I am just missing something small and very important I dont know ? Any help or ideas would be awesome thanks alot guys and Girls.

On the same note. I have no access to a modded box or a place to swap the drive. What would be the best was to get the save to the box, is mega-x my only option??
