it all depends on the hacks... and a small part games... Ive hated sony from day one.. and with the little "spyware" discovered makes me loose trust in them.. Ijust woudnt want a console hooked up to my PC sending info on whats on my HD and shit to sony... it's my own property and me to know not them!

Well, I loved the playstation betteter than n64 but if there is modchip for ps3 then I will totally ditch the 360 as there is no invitation for me other than halo but I hate ps2 so bad.

there's only a couple ps2 games i like to play (can count them on one hand- the harmonix games mainly) but there good enough to make me not sell my ps2...so if the next gen versions of those games are good, chances are i will end up with one too.

No, I grew up on Nintendo and now have outgrown them. So it is 360 all the way and maybe when prices come down the Revolution.

why bother, everything about xbox is better, from last gen to this one. there were very few exclusive ps2 titles that xbox didn't have and answer for... wait there were <NONE>

It depends on how many good games the PS3 has, and if they are good enough to make me want to pay XXX for a PS3.

What? PS was all about RPG's not xbox... Fable was the biggest one. PS had the whole fuckin' FF franchise. Almost every game I look at for PS2 is an RPG it seems like. If anything xbox is only good for racing games and FPS (as good as a console can make it that is)... which happens to be the only things I play for the most part.


I may or may not get a PS3. I didn't buy a Gamecube because N64 was a HUGE let down. And the games I wanted on GC were also available on XB or PS2. Same thing with PS2... it was kind of a let down. Most of the PS2 games I wanted were available on XB and most of the Sony exclusive games don't interest me (I can't get into most RPG and stealth games... too slow.) So PS3 will be dependent on price and games. If it costs 500 for just the console, I'm out. If there's only like 3 games that look attractive, I'm over it. I only own about 6 or 7 games for PS2 (half of which I got before XB). The only definate buy criteria would be if it is <400, actually has BR (so it'll be a two-fer kinda thing), and has a few games that are actually appealing that I can't get on 360.

im a loyal xbox fan, and it would take somethign very special to make me want to get a ps3.

and from teh way things are shaping up, sony will loose a huge market share all around the globe except japan, where it has half a chance.

I'll get one when I'm looking for a blue ray player in the future, but probably not in the first year it's released.

I'll get the 360 and probably the nintendo aswell but I'll wait for the first decent price drop, usually about a year after release.

My Solution -- Buy all three next-gen consoles so that you can then enjoy every game that you'd like, regardless of what system it is on...

And then for the games that are multi-platformed, well, if you have a modded box it is probably no question...and if a mod for PS3 comes along with similar capabilities, the decision will obviously be a bit more difficult but in that case you should all be able to just make a simple choice and not give a fuck either way...

The whole point of playing a game is to enjoy it...not live it.

I wont buy one just for the pure fact that i have gone through about 4 or 5 PS2's in the same time i have had 1 xbox. They just seem to break so easily, plus they are just generally crap in my eyes. i mean why would you want one when you have such an amazing piece of equipment as an xbox. It has more uses than a swiss army knife.

I got given a ps2 the other day as payment for a job i did and i took it straight blockbuster to trade it in for some xbox stuff!!

I can see the ps3 going the same way, having to replace parts constantly dvd drive etc plus no real contacts for Sony. Probably end up being a £400 paper weight!

I plan on getting a PS3 but not right away as they are running some new technology in that thing and it may have some bugs that only show themselves after some use. I've got a PS and PS2 and both have worked flawlessly for years so I'm happy with my Sony consoles. The main reason to buy Sony is RPG's as it gets all the good one's. I plan on getting a Revolution also but I'll have that at launch. The 360 I'll be passing on as I've not had good luck with my DVD drives (had problems with a Phillips and a H&L) in my xbox's plus the xbox console's are all about the FPS and online play. I'm not a fan of either as FPS's get boring after awhile and online play is full of cheaters and gerenal rude morons.

I'm never going to buy a Sony product again, and I hope a lot of other people decide to do so aswell. Because of what they're doing with DRM, Blue Ray. And I'm not going to support them doing so by buying a PS3.
This round I'm going to buy a 360 and Revolution.

The only reason I'd buy a ps3 is for digital out... xbox f'd that one up. Now I'd need to buy a tv that took digital in naturally, but when I upgrade everything you might as well get the best picture you can.

ps2 controller hurts my hands to use. i dont think the ps3 will be any better. they are so small its hard to use them.

Nope. Never like the PS2, it feels cheap, looks nasty and I don't see what it actually has going for it. I expect the PS3 will be the same... the only thing I can currently see it has over the 360 is the dual hdmi outputs. But honestly, who in their right mind has two HDTVs, and if they do (rich buggers) what are the chances they are stored right next to each other in the living room??

Sure, it's a dream to line up two 55" Plasma HDTV next to each other, but I don't think I'm the only person who can't afford £10400 and have the space for it either.

That's one of the reasons I'm not really too interested in The 360 too much... I've seen the awesome games... and I'm torn between wanting to play the games and not wanting to buy the system... It's going to be a nighmare to mod...

that aside, PS3's seem to me as a waste of time. What do they have against the PS2? nothing that i can see... they're starting to become more aware to the fact that people want to compete against eachother more than they want to fight against a computer... but I think they still have only 2 Controller ports and speaking of Controller; it looks like a joke.

They aren't really... It's not how much power the console has that matters... It's how the things works, like... I have high hopes in the 360s seperate processors... and all the functionality it brings is also really cool (although power does play a role as it drives many of the functions)

but there's so much we still don't know about the PS3... It's really hard to make a decision... But i'm leaning closer towards the Xbox360... even though they've gone with the whole "we've got hardware and we're not sharing" route... damn closed architecture and mac style computing GRRR!

I once thought that billy there could get away with just letting us mod:D but I realized it's not the homebrew stuff he's worried about, it's more about the asshats who get mods just to play pirated games... It's not really a good thing to do and I don't think it's horrible... but I think that if you use some one elses work you should give back indirectly if not directly.

I think the PS3 is going to be a great console, just like the 360 will be. However, I still think the 360 will have the advantage over the PS3 as programming for it is much easier, even though they are technically very similar.

Remember the Ps2 demo's before the Ps2 came out? Not one single game even looked 1/4 as good as those did, so all the demo's you are seeing for the Ps3 now are all a farse, the final product won't look near as good.

I like video games though so I'll look into getting one but I won't be getting it at launch like I am with the Xbox360.

I am a die hard xbox fan and I absolutely cannot stand the Halo series. I think they are nothing more than mediocre games. When it comes down to it, the Xbox was just technologically superior and hey, it worked. I will never buy a Sony product on the basis that the entire company is liars and cheats. I hate the company and I hate people like you. Question: have you actually played Killzone? If you have you would know that it pales in comparison due to slow framerate and poor gameplay. Not to mention they aren't the same type of game.

Killzone may be good... but the limitations of the ps2 just make it play crap. Halo 2 definatly takes the cake.

If people think that Sony won't be using the technology they patented that ties a game disc to a specific machine, then they should be looking back into the news from a few years ago when Sony was pushing to get laws passed in Japan making the buying and selling of used games illegal.

It amazes me that any company has that many balls to think they can tell you that you're not allowed to resell a game after you're done with it, and I'm showing my anger by making sure Sony never gets a single cent from me until this attitude changes.

Because they ARE liars and cheaters, are you the only one who haven't heard that Sony is sued for introducing MALWARE into your computer without permission through their music CD's and that they are trying to distribute their products of Music CD's, Movies and Videogames under a EULA (yes music and video products distributed under a EULA type license) that take away all your rights such as making own backups or playing your discs in the equipment you want?.

They even patented some days ago a method to avoid people to play their own purchased games in other people console (hope they are not trying to implement this into ps3)



Some times people is just blind (or too fanboy) and tend to follow the masses, and they are even convinced themselves that the games you mention are the best of the best because they are complete ignorant of the catalogue of other systems. Games such as God of War, Gran Turismo and Jak3 are just plain GARBAGE compared with their counterparts in xbox, they are not bad games either, but Sony fanboys are happy thinking they are the best available, i have nothing against this. Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy are the main reason i own a PS2, but i have not had 1/20 the fun with my ps2 than i have with my xbox.

as for sony, they kick-started video-games for a lot of people. i know that i had a playstation when tehy came out, and loved it.

I must admit, there are some games that I just love playing on PS2 and there some that I love playing on X-Box. I must say, one of the best features of the X-Box (without modding) as GOT TO BE the hard drive for save games - so much faster than that PS2 Memory card.

I used to love sony, i even was against getting an xbox because the ugly controllers and the size of it. Then i actually got one and i was just stunned at how much better it was than the PS3.

Another reason for me getting a 360 is this forum, because i can not find a fucking decent ps2 forum with tuts and a great member base which love helping you and so many people on these foums are getting taught each day by someone else.

Also the modding capabilites, we have linux, windows, media players, emulators, BIOS programs, lots of grunt, a good looking machine unlike the PS2 (It's uglier than the ugliest chick i have ever seen in my whole entire life)

Ok let's get right to it shall we? The thing about this thread that just burns me up is that there is SO much misinformation going around. Some points ===>

PS3: 7 controllers simultaneously (Bluetooth wireless)...no need for a multitap (and yes the fact that Xbox had 4 controller ports right out of the box was a big selling point for MS and was conducive to some great LAN gaming i.e. Halo, Halo 2, etc.)
PS3: Networking...10/100/1000 out of the box (I bought an SMC 5-port Gigabit switch already just for PS3's Gigabit support). And you won't have to pay $100 for a wireless adapter for wi-fi as you will with the Xbox 360 (WTF is up with that?)
PS3: Standard-raising hi-definition 1080P (not supported in the Xbox 360)...and NO I don't have a TV/projector capable of displaying that kind of resolution, but I will be looking into purchasing one that will .
PS3: Backward compatibility (not from emulators/patches on a hard drive as with the Xbox 360 but from hardware/software emulation from the console itself...Blu-Ray technology allows for DVD/CD playback)...no it won't be 100% but I would be willing to bet it will be well over 90% and probably closer to 95% (which is VERY impressive considering it will be backwardly compatible with TWO previous generations of software--PS1 and PS2! As the following link reports, Sony themselves have tested 8,000 PS1 and PS2 games.) And yes I will freely admit that backward compatibility is more of a selling point than a feature that will be largely used...but it IS an important selling point. ==>

PS3: Blu-Ray discs (25 gig single-layer, 50-gig dual-layer)...this is gonna be HUGE for developers that really want to push the envelope...think the next Grand Theft Auto .
PS3: Massive third-party support. Many genres of games will only be adequately supported by the PS3 (as they were with the PS2)...Japanese game developers will help propel the PS3 to total dominance in the Japanese market, which will help to drive Sony's third-part advantage.


Some negative points (regarding Sony) that I am more than willing to concede ==>

Lack of console durability/reliability. This is a very valid point...I had my original Playstation (that I bought at launch) and it failed less than 2 days later. I was able to get a replacement immediately, but as I found out later (and wish I had known from the start), Playstation 1's tended to overheat (especially if the ventilation ports were blocked by placing the console on a carpet or any surface that didn't allow for proper ventilation.) I ended up after about a year turning my Playstation sideways to help with disc loading . I also got a Playstation 2 at launch, but never had an issue with disc read errors or anything like that, BUT...some of the Playstation 2's installed base came from people buying replacement PS2s for their first PS2s which failed due to laser malfunction/disc-read errors. But as one of the forum posts in this thread pointed out, there were also plenty of problems with older Xboxes that had crappy DVD drives (thus leading to the need for repairs.) The truth is early adopters (like myself--and yes I am going to stand in line for over 9 hours at my local Best Buy November 22nd to get my Xbox 360 ) are ALWAYS guinea pigs for console manufacturers...the first run of next-generation consoles ALWAYS seem to have some issues with durability/relability...it's the price you pay for being an early adopter. It sucks but it's true.
Digital Media Rights (DMR/watermarking). This idea just sucks and no I am not happy about it. BUT...look for MS to try to implement something similar with the Xbox 360 down the line. Let's face it both Sony and MS are GREEDY to a fault. Now if Sony forces you to play a PS3 game ONLY on your own personal PS3 because of DMR (thus destroying the used-game market in the process), then I will be forced to sell off my PS3. But I just don't see it coming to that point...I forsee the threat of massive lawsuits if Sony tries to pursue this course (and I don't think they will want to have to spend massive amounts of money fighting lawsuits when they will be losing big bucks on each console sold anyways!)
The Playstation 3 boomerang controller. Yeah it looks like crap...but myself I think it is only a mockup. I have yet to see any pictures of finished PS3 controllers being used to demo games etc. I honestly think there will be an announcement on this front in December/January...I forsee the coming of Dual-Shock 3 .
Online/hard drive support. Sony really dropped the ball in this area (allowing MS to take the ball and run with it...Xbox Live is a huge success.) Not nearly enough games had online support, and Sony's online model left a lot to be desired. And the hard drive was basically unsupported (sorry Final Fantasy XI is nice but one game does not add up to anything remotely resembling widespread support for the hard drive.)

One other thing I would like to point out...the forum post in this thread that complained about the Killzone 2 demos and Metal Gear Solid 4 demos being pre-rendered CGI was only half-right--the Killzone 2 trailer was indeed pre-rendered, but the Metal Gear Solid 4 demo was in real-time on a Playstation 3 development kit as the following link clearly explains ==>

Also I would like to point out that many Wal-Marts that had Xbox 360 kiosks running had to end up turning off the consoles because of interference between the Xbox 360 2.4 Ghz wireless controllers and Wal-Mart's hand-scanning inventory devices...the problem has since been fixed but could be problematic if it crops up in a large percentage of homes (this could also affect the Playstation 3 with its wireless bluetooth-enabled controllers also, though.) ==>

And a final note...the Playstation 3 will only have ONE SKU...the Xbox 360 dual-SKU at retail is going to handcuff Xbox 360 developers who will have to cripple the potential of their games since they will have to design games without being able to use the hard drive (since the core Xbox 360 won't have one.) Myself I hope that some of the 3rd party developers for the Xbox 360 decide to put out games that can ONLY be played with the hard drive...that way they won't have to limit their vision for their projects .

I'll get a PS3 because it will an antique after xbox360 rocks it's world. PS3 will go the way of the doto and I will sell my PS3 for big $$$.

Oh, man! you don't know what you are talking about, almost all the features you say are nothing more than marketing

- Do you imagine your TV split in 7 parts to allow 7 player simultaneously?

- Gigabit and wi-fi are right, but Sony said these ports are NOT designet to work with a PC, maybe you will see some homebrew using it but not at full speed like it is happening in PS2.

- Standard 1080p, let me laugh at this HA, ¿did you know this resolution stress the machine 4 times 720p?, you will see in 1080p only really bad graphic games (poker or domino games XD) or even no game at all.

- Backwards compatibility, i dont mind if they use patches or discs or a free external accesory, i only want to play my games. and keep in mind xbox hardware is much more difficult to emulate with all its features (power, 5.1, HD, etc..) than PS2

- Do you know whay blu-ray is? Answer: is nothing more than a round shaped DRM with a hole in the middle made by sony to take out your rights. and is by no means imprescindible for gaming. And No M$ is not implementing DRM's in their CD's or DVD's, because MS is not a content provider, and Watermarking (which is much worse than DRM) is not possible on standard DVD's


Because all this fancy stuff analists say xbox 360 could cost half the ps3 by the beginning of 2007 delivering about the same in gaming experience (whats up with that?) this time economics war has turned 180 degrees. umm.. wonder if Sony began to take out features like when they launched the ps2...

Sony keeps lieing as with every console they launch, when they say Playstation 3 Development Kit they are LIEING because these kits don't exists in final stages, perhaps they are refering this is a recorded movie from a computer intended to create contents for PS3 XD they did that same with PS2, where are all this great graphics they showed in ingame videos before ps2 launch?, and the same happened with PSP, before launch its graphics seemed to be slightly better than PS2 graphics, and the reality is that its graphics are much poorer than PS2. Always the same shit coming from Sony before launch.

Unreal 3 engine at this point only runs on the developer´s computers and not a PS3 or even a PS3 DK XD

So we have see NOTHING about PS3 in-game graphics, but developers interviews always remarks they will be about the same than X360. Xbox 360 has the most powerful 3D chip from ATI, and PS3 the most powerful from Nvidia, and almost the same ram speed. WHY think it will have auto-magically better graphics than X360?, ok, ok, if you are a fanboy i can understand you believe in this.

And please, dont be an ignorant and dont compare difficulties in programing between Xbox 360 and PS3, please, please dont do it again, every body knows this battle is already won. Any company is easier to program to than Sony because their insistent lack of documentation and proper tools.

What i will buy will be forcely an xbox360 and maybe a revolution. Even if gamecube wasnt a really good console. It was in the cube i had my first gaming experience with Smash Brothers and Resident Evil 1 and 0. Damn those were good games.

PS3 supposedly going to rip 360, but then again its gonna cost a gazillion dollars when it comes out, so like i did with ps2 and xbox im going to wait and buy both, in the mean time im just going to hibernate with the animalsssss, so 2050 seems good for ps3's price 2 fall, bye every1
