Full Version: 800mhz Fsb P4's Support Via Bios Update?
i got gigabytes latest 533mhz fsb board that sinxp1394, and i was wondering if you think i could get support for the new cpus or what would be the cheapest alternative? Thanks

You can get support for newer CPUs (most likely) with a BIOS update.. but you won't be able to run at 800Mhz..

Because the FSB simply cannot push data that fast... it's not like it's upgradeable, like RAM. If you REALLY need to be bleeding edge, buy a new MoBo that moves that fast.

is there any other way then buying a new mobo? like buying a new chipset(if i did i have no fucking clue how to put it on, cuz it looks like its soldered, correct me if im wrong) cuz i REALLY need this update, cuz when i oc mine it should be at like 1.0 ghz fsb at least

Yo bagel5009 pretty much, you're just going to have to get a new MOBO, tjhe corp's not going to let you stop them from making that cash. I had a Tyan s1854 MOBO for the past year, and the highest cpu it supported was a P3 733mhz till I flashed it with a new bios and it supported up to 1ghz. just thought I tell that story
The only way you can run 800mhz fsb is to buy one of the new motherboards that will run 800mhz fsb.

Back away from the keyboard, and no one will get hurt.
The motherboard chipsets are not removable as such, and are not replaceable with another. The fact that the layered board itself does not scare you in itself is troubling.
You would easily find all the information that you are looing for by going to the actual website.
The answer is NO.

i know what im doing - especially when it comes to ocing, how much do you think i could sell my sinxp1394 on ebay and say it was never used and brand new, cuz i got all the packaging still and tape works great, i got it at FRYS for 220 3 weeks ago, and pricematch wouldnt be much less... then i could basicly spend 20 extra bucks for the new mobo , cuz this is an important upgrade especially the 800mhz fsb, the updates dont happen that often

No shit. The two or three video cards that have 8x AGP support don't even push that much more power, according to various benchmarks (I'll find 'em and link 'em later).

actually I think it goes even deeper than the graphics cards themselves. The numbers the 8X AGP camp sited are not realistically possible because of limitations on the other components in the mobo chain.

800FSB is useless without a p4 that supports it, read my previous post.

The only p4 with HT at 2.4 Ghz is a P4 XEON, and you don't have one.
For consumer p4s, only >3Ghz has HT.
The chipset isn't magic, it cannot upgrade the cpu for you.

i was just reading the FUCKIN official information on the new i875P chipset and it says it supports HT for 2.4ghz and above and makes supports for 800mhz fsb

"Supports" means it works. Doesn't mean it actually uses the full 800MHz the FSB pushes.
