Do I just simply run the + wire thro the + and the - thro the -?

Not really. You want to install the switch in the middle of either the + or the -. Not both. So when the switch is off, the circuit breaks, when its on, its a circuit again. So if their are two poles on the switch. Solder a wire from one to the positives on the LEDs and the other pole to the power. Or solder one pole to the grounds, and the other pole to the black wire. That might have been confusing...but ask for clarification if needed.
