The Xbox360 CPU is custom, but still ... it takes much from the POWER architecture. So could be useful on some point.

It would in fact be funny to see various exploits come to light for PowerPC Macs beause of the shared processor architecture.

Actually, I think this could be possible.

PowerPC is certainly not the most secure CPU design. The PowerPC has some flaws that are mostly patched in software.

While a CPU exploit could eventually lead to take control of the CPU, it wouldn't be a method that could easily be done by the general public.

Font signing, gamesave hacks and the other methods of modding are all well above the lvl of the average public user. Take a look at the hacking done to Apples Osx86 system. Just because its hard to do, dosent mean that someone wont make it easy.

is there any info on the instruction set/opcodes for this CPU ? I'm quite sure there will be some new specific instructions and that a debugger like IDA will lock up/disassemble it incorrectly. However I've not tried it yet, since my IDA registration key doesn't allow me to disassemble PowerPC files smile.gif

it seems to me like one of the most secure things MS did was switch to the powerPC architecture. Just like Mozilla was more secure because it was less widely used. meaning it was less understood and undertargeted. Would the new leaked tiger OsX dev kit help us in our endeavors at all? or am i just thinking in the wrong direction with this?

The day I get OSX on my 360 is the greatest day of my life... Well, in the top 10 anyway.

I'm with you on that one; I get excited thinking about it.
