With retail Xbox360, with all default settings and on first lap of race track on Project Gotham Racing 3, single player, crashed 3 times in a row.
So far haven't been able to play one track without crashing...
Also got this crashing on Xbox Live screen and on startup too...

Here are some screenshots:

What games did you end up picking up Def?

Lucky bastards grr.gif
I'm on the 2nd round of shipments on my local EB.
I tried picking up a X360 this morning but I had no luck.
Even with the lesser known stores....
This shortage is probably the worst I've ever seen.
Can't say much in comparison to the PS2 launch cuz I didn't bother picking one up.
But people in line at Target for an Xbox 360?
That's a serious shortage to me, especially when you realize the low number of consoles in stock.

Enjoy bro beerchug.gif
I'll be busy playing HL2 on my Xbox for the time being pop.gif

Condemned, CoD 2 and Quake 4, all are stellar. Condemned is just sick! Quake 4 turned out be a most excellent port, and CoD 2 is better than expected.

Just turned 360 off for the first time in 9 hours, I am so thrilled with this machine! Condemned scared the poopies out of me so I had to take a break tongue.gif

Which one would you say you're liking the most so far?
Oh and it's nice to hear that you're not having any over heating issues with your X360!

Haven't had any problems yet, sorry to hear about yours. I called BB last night @ 6 and they said first come forsy serve. I got their @ 5:45 and the people on line said they were put on a list starting @ 2:30 yesterday. So pretty much only the people on the list got it and they had about 100 systems. I got mine from EB online but tried to score one for a friend. I coulda got a core but they were outta HDD's and he didnt want the core anyway.

I truly cannot chose, I like them all for different reasons. CoD 2 puts you in the battlefield, and Q4 is just so sexy looking and plays as good as it looks. I remember the people here who said it looked terrible.hahaha oh how wrong they were. Having Quake 2 on there is icing on the cake smile.gif

Condemned is a total psychological thriller, and the graphics are stunning. I love to be scared, and when it becomes too much, I pop in one of the shooters smile.gif

I plan on getting PGR 3 and DOA 4 soon. The 360 is everything I imagined and more beerchug.gif

Just read over in the XBOX.com Forums that the main issue is the the massive power supply brick. Members have changed thiers witha friends and all problems fixed.

One member says there is a noticiable differance in the 2 power supplies (color...etc..)

Microsft told a few of them to send in the powersupply and they are sending a new one.

Link to the post look half way down to Zukuen reply:
http://forums.xbox.com/473652/ShowPost.aspx

Here is his reply:

Okay... we got two xbox's this morning..  lined up really early.. and through trial and error, I can tell you what this is.  Basically, its your power bar.

We connect my friends Xbox completely and had this problem right away, tried everything we could to get it working.  We opened up and connected my other friends Xbox to the existing cords, had the same problem, and freaked cause we thought we had 2 faulty Xbox's already.  We took out the power bar and cords from the 2nd Xbox 360 and they're QUITE different.  The plugs are slightly different, different shade of grey and everything.  After hooking this up, BOTH Xbox's worked perfectly fine....

So at least, we've narrowed down the problem to the Power Bar.. the solution according to Support.. is yes... send it in, and wait a week for your replacement...  sad.gif  We're trying to pray we can get an exchange in so we don't have to wait a week, but not sure on how or when they'll get more here....  Best of luck.. we need it too apparently...

Nice video, i would call up ms yelling at them saying you waited in line for hours and now this happens. I would be pissed if that happened to me.

my 360 has been a bit flaky too.
Bought 6 games, all working fine cept Q4.
Q4 crashed at the load of 2nd level, didnt bother restarting, Ill try it again tommorow. Q2 bonus disc wouldnt even load first time I stuck it in the tray, 2nd time I put it in I got a white screen saying "Please insert this disc into an xbox 360 to play". Third time it finally loaded.

Weirdest error just happened when I was surfing around live downloading the NBA Live Demo, my dash kicked into 480i, tried resetting to 1080i, it would test the setting and then tell me to put my cable into HD mode (which it is) to retain the setting.

Think it was just overheating cause I had it on all day and my HT cabinet, let it sit for a while and its in 1080i again, well see if it lasts.

I'f had this issue alot already myself. PGR did it the first dozen times I tried to boot it. I had the unit on the floor. I stoood it upp.. worked first time.

I had hope that it was a mechanism issue..

But hours later.. after many open/closes.. I went back to pgr.. whihc was working.. and sure enough.. another White Warning Screen.

Not isolated to PGR either. I've had the same issue now on COD, PGR, and Quake4. (oddly enough.. no problem EVER on the second disk for Quake4)

Wow forums are busy this is my fifth time trying to post this to no avail (Board busy try again later error) and I lost my original polished and formatted version so excuse the mistakes below:

Wouldn’t worry about the xmas present. Sam’s club and Wal-Mart are pretty good about returns. The only thing you might have a problem with is finding a store with a unit to exchange with you. Although gamestop is telling me that MS has now promised to fufill all preorders before Christmas so you have a chance.

As far as the please insert this disc into a 360 to play i have gotten that quite a few times myself with various games haven’t noticed one in particular.

As far as the power supplies is it possible for you to take pictures? It would be nice to start identifying what we have and if we can find a consistency with brand or if its a universal problem.

Another thing that struck my attention is when I was checking out the gamestop manager i was buying from said that the serial numbers vary quite a bit between systems not just in the number but the size of the barcode. He mentioned that some are harder to scan than others etc. I assume they have to do with where they are made but maybe also we can find a consistency with the faulty power supplies/units. If possible take pictures of your serial numbers taking a bit of extra time to blur them out a bit but if we can get the shapes and maybe the non pertinent info we might be able to figure this out.
garlm
No need to worry about christmas presents. It has a 90 day warranty. It says so in big green card inside. However, you must apply for the 2 year warranty within 10 days of purchase, it says.

So, hopefully if you *do* have any problems, they'll make themselves apparent right off the bat, and not in 2 months. If you really want the extended warranty, you could probably swap it in before the 90 days are up, and if they send another, register that one. Not too sure about that, as I've never returned a system to the company, only local stores with extended warranties.
eversio11
My serial # is (blurring out some numbers, obviously) 20##4#4#4#06
garlm
Are they all being produced in the same plants?

If I recall, the first batch of Xboxs came from both Mexico and Malaysia. Future ones came from a single place at a time, most likely China.

I'm having an odd problem with the 360 where the Digital Audio Output is not working. Works fine for XBOX 1, PS2, and all my other devices. Ended up having to install analog only, but not very happy with this.

Also, the 360 gets hot as hell. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I have very limited install space (have to keep my original XBOX since MS didn't make it fully compatable).

Anyway, has anyone else been successful with Digital Audio?

Sure, looks like there might be an issue with some power cords, but meanwhile: try putting your high end pc in a cabinet or with the air intakes fighting a carpet and see what happens

damn dude, famous in 4 posts. anyway, try externally hooking up a fan and run it high to suck air out where its already being sucked out to indrease the flow, try it on the power supply and the system itself, if that stops it or delays it they have a cooling problem and for sure now they are in deep shit they are gonna have to fix thousands of consles

My digital audio didn't work when I first turned it on, but I found that I didn't insert the DA cable in far enough. Once I figured this out, it works fine.

my trust on xbox 360. may be they rushed with there realese i think they should have checked each part bit

ok, hello everyone, i'm new

18hrs in line
Got 2 360's, PGR3, COD,(great games!) and Madden 06(............)
One 360 is on Ebay

My 360 has crashed 3 times, it didnt happen to me until I came across links on the web about it...damn it.

Anyway, it happened when I would go to the 360 Dashboard and contacted my friends, everytime i would
try to back out of the dashboard it would just freeze up, completly unrespnosive. I had to restart the 360, then i did it again, restarted the system again and it has worked fine since.

But it works for the most part, the experience of playing PGR3 in 720p in dobly digital with my wireless controller and my IPOD tunes streaming out of my 360 was AWESOME!!! Worth the troulbe I went through to get these things. I think MS will take care of the people having issues or will provide patches

I am a recovering hardcore gamer in my early 30's, I have been a gamer now for over 20 years, I own just about every system, it's good to see what people thought was just for nerds is'nt just for nerds anymore...

It sucks when real life takes over and ya gatta pay the bills, i had to give the joystck/controller a temporary rest but i hope to be putting in a little time with my 360...maybe ill hit the lotto one day and never have to work again, its the dawn a new age gentlemen....enjoy the ride...
ChInEsE ChIcKeN
i heard from a lot of people saying that the reaon for the overheating crashing is becuase of the PSU problem.... there was one person that opned up the xbox and moved the PSU and he was able to run it for 11 hours no crashing.....

DSC is a very common prefix for digital camera's and is not just limited to sony. It probably has to do with some standard naming schema/file structure that various manufactures agreed to but i would venture to guess DSC just means Digital Still Camera.

Why even post this? The 360 has done a lot of things right. Many are visible but many more just are not known until you actually use one at home and not in the store. Between me and three roomates my 360 has been given plenty of use and i havent had a single crash. The only problem i have had is some save games disapearing after a live account activation and some games being recognized as movies(always fixed by ejecting and reinserting the disc with no problems).

Why not root for all the teams? More systems and more competition is almost always better for the consumer the feirce competitivness between console manufactures is what guarantees us lower prices and better games.

Guess i missed some. I warned every board i ran across about this, i found out 3 months ago that the Xbox 360 was going to be released with major heating issues, this is just one example of them. Mainly its the powersuppy that is over heating but in the end the GPU and the CPU have heating problems as well. I dont know why anyone would buy something from a company that supports releasing software and hardware it seems now to fast and then run in to major problems with it and still want another one, but ok. Hope it is worth the wait, the money and the major headaches that come along with owning MSs products. I crashed 4 xbox's alone and fryed one HD in the first system, i crashed 2 floor demos at gamestop the other day of the 360 just because of over heating issues. Have you seen the fans they run back there to keep this thing cool enough to run all day? Crazyness.

Just a warning, if you HAVE to get a 360 wait till rev 3 comes out, half of the "bugs" should hopfully be fixed in that one. Remember though, they released a systems KNOWING that it had problems and did not tell anyone about it (kind of a common thing for MS) and still are selling them some how. Personaly i would get a ps3 or nintendo, at least they are honest.
wrs.madsci
A friend of mine actually reported the same problem, altough it didn't look exactly like those pics. I was over playing PG3 and it crashed over and over, and at different points in the game. When I put my hand on the machine it was suuuuuuuuper friggin hot. The power brick was extremely hot as well. He also had a disc scratching problem, and we tested it on new clean discs. I'm very glad I didn't waste my money on this system. I think this whole thing is a stupid marketing stunt gone bad. They create a shortage under the auspice of wanting to launch in all three regions before christmas, and to top it all off they rushed the system so gamers like us have to get all pissed off that the system doesn't work. I've bought every system since the NES on launch except the original xbox and this one, and for good reason. And I'm not a Sony or Nintendo activist or anything, I own all systems. The difference is that the only reason I truely like my xbox is because of Halo and my Mod. Otherwise, it's not really the better system out there, in my opinion. Gameplay and quality games and control are my biggest issues, and I hope they can rectify these with the 360. But as things stand now, it looks like by the time they fix almost half of the bugs in it, the PS3 will be out, which I'll most likely buy on launch. I'm a network administrator, so I know how MS works and what they do, so this doesn't surprise me. When SP2 for Windows XP came out, they hadn't properly tested it. So what happened? Tons of people's PC's and servers crashed UNRECOVERABLY!!! I don't understand why people trust them so much when it comes to an area where they are the newcomers to the technology, when you see what they do with technology they've been associated with for over a decade.
