i decided to try and build my own psu, maybe one that doesnt overheat like the original, and one that's a tad bit smaller wink.gif

anyway in doing so ive taken apart the power brick and the plug end and discovered the following
IPB Image
1 - PWR_ENABLE
2 - +5VSB
3 - +12v and +12v
4 - +12v
5 - +12v
6 - GND_RS and GND
7 - GND
8 - GND
Surround - GND

Standard PC PSU>motherboard connection

so im thinking..
1 - ?
2 - 9
3 - 10
4 - 10
5 - 10
6 - Any black and GND_RS - ?
7 - Any black
8 - Any black
Surround - Any black

About the GND_RS im assuming that this is just something required by the default PSU because at the connection end (the plug that goes into the xbox), the thin black (GND_RS) simply attaches to the rest of the GND's, the only one im hazy on at this moment in time is what PWR_ENABLE should be connected to on the pc PSU, any ideas?

Was hoping someone with some knowledge of PSU's (or even pc psu's) in general could assist me with attaching this connector to a standard power supply.

I have a nagging feeling that its just a generic PSU but i want to be sure!

i would believe its ps_on pin 14. i did a mod with this when using two psu's together. check out http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?locat...var1=268&var2=0

yeah the green wire (pin 14) on an ATX PSU is the power switch...

You need to determine how it works though

on a PC Grounding the "Power On" pin activates the PSU

on an Xbox 1 applying 3.3V to the "Power On" pin activates the PSU

You need to determine what that pin should be before you wire it up

If the PC ends up being backwards from the 360 then you simply need a 7404 Hex Inverter to reverse the signal. They cost about 5 cents wink.gif

i bit the bullet and gave it a bash as just connected directly to green (ps-on)
When the psu is plugged in but not plugged into the 360, nothing happens, when it is plugged in it turns on (fan on etc), and xbox sits idle, pressing power switch on 360 results in 1/2 sec green then the 3 bottom left red lights flashing (im assuming due to the psu), additionally, turning on the xbox makes the fan on the psu slow down for a split second, would a 7404 Hex Inverter fix this issue you think?

uhm.. do you even have a PC PSU that can supply 16A on 12V?
PC PSUs generally have a high amperage on 5V, since most devices use that as main source for power, and 12V only has a rather low amperage compared.

That's true, the psu i had chose to mess with is
+5VSB - 1.0A (correct)
+12V - 12A (4.5A short)

might be worth trying to make something like this work:

all you need is a 5v regualtor on the output for the 5v, and a large power transistor on the 12v output connected to PS_ON. There looks to be enough room inside the thing to build that stuff in.

I have a similar model (its a 12.5A version) of that power supply and it works great. Barely gets warm.
