can't find a way to play on live with a friend right next to me..... i haven't heard whether it's possible either way, i hope so

Yes, I want to know as well!

I found it really hard to even have my friend play PDZ with me, definetly not user friendly like Halo 2 Guests

From what I have heard both players would have to have GOLD LIVE accounts and each logged in using their own account .

so, like...... my friend sitting right next to me who doesn't have a live account would have to buy an xbox and a live account? seems pretty overboard, i hope that's not the case

That is the case, or if your friend created the Xbox Live account without an Xbox.

So my friend can recover his Xbox1 gamertag on my 360 and then we can both play?

If he does this can he still use his gamertag on his xbox1 still?

on a related note(i dont have xbox360 yet) can my friend play on my gamertag or as a guest (one player, just him) and have it not "count" towards my reputation, points, etc... i find that as a problem if not, bc i dont want my friends who suck but want to play screw up my rep, even though its not all that importaant to me

If it were how it should be (i'm not saying this is how it is, I have no idea) you can log onto XBL with one account per controller, except what the first controller does is what all the rest of the people would have to do (such as you'd all have to play in the same game)
