i want to format , and put my pc's 200gig harddrive in my xbox but first, i want to transfer all my backed up mp3's to my xbox's 80gig harddrive. i could just back them up again from cd but transfering them, hd to hd would be a lot faster. how can i do this?

If the 80 gig is going into your computer, you probably want to create a new partition on it befor you transfer. When you install you operating system on the 80gig it will created a root partition, and probaly erase your MP3's.

But yeah use FTP between your XBOX and your PC to do the copy. Or swap the 80gig into your pc (on another IDE channel) and copy there.

Either way will work and dependent on your network, there wontbe much time difference.
