If you are considering that the backwards compatibility of the 360 is one of the key reasons you are considering choosing the Xbox 360 over the competition, then please note the following.
Out of the list compiled by MS and posted: [url=http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm[/url] less than 10% of these games will actually load on the 360. At our shop we have spent that last 2 days testing each of these titles to find that using the current updated dashboard revision as instructed by MS Inc.
Current Dashboard Revision is: 2.0.2241.0
"This list of titles that have passed hand certification for compatibility with Xbox 360 is provided for informational purposes only and is subject to change without notice."
This is MS's legal way of stating "we don't have a clue if these will work or not, so don't sue us if they don't."
We realize that MS may be currently at work on future revisions that will further support the emulation of original Xbox games, however at this juncture it appears that potential consumers are blatantly being mislead regarding the current state of the Xbox 360 compatibility.

Who is going to buy a new console for the backward compatability?! It makes no sense!

alot of my games that worked fine on the xbox, didn't work on the 360.
Including halo 2. Even though I updated via live for xbox game support, I burnt the xex file for the
november update ran it again (because while it was updating via live my connection was going on and off so I wanted to be sure the update was on there right) and buffed all my games (using turtle wax) Now all of them work.

i've only tried two games with BC. Halo 2 and Sega GT 2002. Halo 2 runs flawlessly. Sega GT 2002 was in sync and everything (audio/video) but it just ran slow as hell while racing. the whole race is slow as hell though so it isn't a real disadvantage. just when you're going 100+ mph it feels like you're going 50mph. Menus and everything else are fine just the actual races. I'll test some more games when i got some time in a couple weeks.

well this is the same at 360 releasing almost a "beta" version of 360s in america, because their are problems with them and they dont seem complete. Basically xbox was tryin to get ahead of the game b4 ps3 came out so they got some out so now its all hyped up and pre ordered and back ordered, etc. ALSO on this subject when first news came out about BC, they said that only the most popular games would work, but now they are supoposedly releasing patches to get more games to work, so we will see. IF halo 2 works and the grad theft auto collection works i think I will be happy.

Would you buy a DVD player that can't play the DVD's you own now? How about a CD player that doesn't play your CD's now? This makes a lot of sense. Especially for those that don't have a xbox now and want a 360 so they can get older and newer games.

it makes sense for when a system first comes out, but after a while it odesnt. There are only like a dozen games out for hte 360 right now, so ppl still love the original xbox games so it DOES make sense now, but a year from now? No BC wont be used much and it wont matter then.

What if you are a big fan of a game regardless or new releases? For instance I know a few people who still love Halo 1 and Halo 2. What if they still love Halo 1 and Halo 2 when Halo 3 comes out but can't play it? Should they have to break out their old xbox's? What if people get the system and never owned an xbox then decide to play Halo 3 and love it so much they want to try Halo 1 and 2...which does happen! Should they have to go buy an old xbox?

Well maybe if you bitch about it some more then it will change
Look, M$ did everything they could to get BC working and we are fortunate that it is there at all. In time bugs will be fixed and more games will be added because M$ knows some people care about that. This is the first time that BC has been emulated in a console so they are breaking new ground here. If you want a system that plays 5000 games from 1998 on get a PS3 and use your cutting edge technology on old ass games. Also realize that this probably wont happen to the xbox 3 as M$ owns all the technology this time.

backwards comptibliy probably isnt a big issue for most of us although...
M$ did say that those games wont work yet, they are still making the emu's for alot of them
99% of us prob still have our Xbox's sicne we voided our warrenties, so we can use those for original xbox games
