Look numb nuts,
Your a compleate dumb ass if you trade your XBOX for a 360!
Even if i never play another game on my XBOX i will always have XBMC to stream content from my pc or to store media. Just set your XBOX up like i have where i boot straight into XBMC. Its sooo nice.
Look when we have XBMC 360 then ill upgrade... but i dont see that happining anytime soon..if ever.
Besides, The 360 will be like $150.00 cheaper in a year.
I bought my 1.0 XBOX for $300.00 when it first came out. (dumb ass)
So chill out and give your XBOX a little love.
Hell, Who knows The PS3 maybe way easer to hack then the 360 anyway.

I never planned on buying an XBox in the first place, and wouldn't have planned on getting an upgrade. I won my 1.4, and I'm turning it into an XBMC, so I suspect it'll be around for a good long time.

Thank you, MS, for losing money!

as many have said before - 360 media setup is lame. 360 might have a chance of replacing my xbox once xbmc is running on it. Until then it is the ugly step daughter that everyone ignores in my household.

I will always have my xbox. I love my 360 except for the media funtions. I can't even get the stupid software to run on my pc right so I can share files with my 360. I found that if I delete Program.exe on C drive it will work but, ya that causes all kinds of crap to happen with other things. So since you can't even use video files anyways I just gave up on it. But the games on the 360 that I have played are amazing. I can hardly imagine 2nd or even 3rd generation titles. But unless the 360 gets either modded or better media funtionality. I will always us my xboxs.

I love my modded xbox. I recently ordered a 360 bundle, got it in the mail, and stared at the unopened box for about 8 hours before deciding to sell it on Ebay! Why? The biggest reason was because of the lack of Divx / Xvid support. I think MS really screwed up not allowing support for these video formats on the 360.
I don't play games nearly as much as I use XBMC to play content from my PC, and even with the 360 / Media Center Extender action, XBMC still blows it away.
Kudos to the XBMC team and the modding community (especially Xecuter) for putting out such badass products... I'm sure the 360 will show up in my entertainment setup someday, but for now it's old school Xbox modded bliss...

I'm still looking to buy more Xboxes. I think 6 is my target (currently at 3). Until the Xbox360 modding scene is as developed as Xbox's is, I find much more value in an Xbox than an Xbox 360. And yeah, gotta have some pretty damn good emulation programs out there.
I agree completely. Until the XBOX360 modding scene REALLY gets underway and it can do all of the functions that an original modded XBOX, then I will hold on to the original. I hardly use my XBOX for XBOX games. I use it primarily for XBMC and Emus. The first we saw a decent version of XBMC and a good selection of decent emus for the XBOX wasn't until late '03, early '04. The original XBOX came out in late 2001, so it is reasonable to assume that the 360 will take more than a year before it can reasonably perform those functions like the original XBOX. Also, let's face it, if the original XBOX goes belly up it is a HELL of alot cheaper and easier to replace than the 360.

Seems to me many of us have been spoiled by XBMC. Getting an Xbox 360 would be a large leap backwards in almost every way except graphics. And I've really stopped caring about the graphics in my video games recently.
Compare the first crop of Xbox 360 games with their PS2/GameCube/Xbox equivalents and they play exactly the same. The fact that the graphics are not as sharp and detailed as the 360 version becomes unnoticable after about 5 minutes of play, because you're in the zone by then, concentrating on what you have to do to progress.
I think the PS3 is going to be the same. Nice graphics, same old games, and the graphical leap is going to be nowhere near the same as from the original PlayStation to the PS2.
To be honest (and I know this is going to sound like heresy on this forum) the machine I'm most looking forward to at the moment is the Nintendo Revolution. Instead of simply going for the graphical jugular, it looks as if they've put some real thought into producing a machine that people will enjoy. Kids will like it because kids' games are what Nintendo do best, and old gits like me will like it because I can play all the old NES/SNES/N64 classics out of one unit. I think my Xbox will keep me happy until then.

I'll be using my original Xboxes for many years to come. I won't even buy an Xbox 360 until it's modded with capabilities similar to what my modded Xboxes can do. The last generation of consoles has gotten us to the point where games look so good and have such good replayability. Besides, all of my friends have Xboxes and we all still love to play on Xlink Kai. We've all got plenty to keep us busy until Xbox 360 gets modded or PS3 comes out and looks more attractive.

Indefnite usage - until the sucker burns out! I still use my 1.0 xbox with few issues. And as I even still have the good 'ol Atari 2600 in my room, I forsee the xbox getting a lot of usage for years to come. It does everything I could ever want it to do, plus more. It's all about the amazing homebrew - ports (Q2 especially for me), emulators, XBMC, and the miscellaneous homebrew games that add to my current library of games. I can't get enough of what I have, so there's no point in switching for me.
Even if I fall in and buy the new one, it doesn't mean the old one would completely be unused. There's always good use of hardware!

I'll never retire my Xbox. I still have every console I have ever owned. N64, PS, GBA, DC, Xbox. Besides I have over a 100 games I havent played yet and am hanging to play them. Currently I am playing The Warriors and goddamn that game rules. Next I will start on the Burnout Series.
When the 360 can emulate every game on the Xbox I may upgrade to that but until then I will stick to my good old trusty Xbox.

I love my xbox way too much to stop using it. After all the time, money and love spent modding it I dont see myself letting it gather dust anytime soon. Although the 360s graphics are better (and thats basically the only thing it has against a current modded box) its just not worth the money at the moment. Im looking forward to buying the cheap as hell trade-ins after xmas when people start to get rid of their old boxs in exchange for the 360. I'll be buying a couple to turn into media centres and just to do some creative and fun modding!. Like everyone else has been saying you just cant beat XBMC!. Oh yeah and why would i want to buy a console I have to actually buy games for...ahem....
I look forward to a modded 360 with XBMC athough no doubt thats far far away at the moment.

Exactly. You could buy a used Xbox, mod it, upgrade the HD and load tons of useful software on it without ever buying a single game. I'm up to 4 Xboxes now ..... 3 with modchips and 1 softmod. I also have loads of games, most of which I haven't even played seriously yet. Heck, I may even put Linux on one of my Xboxes ! It's simply too useful a system to stop using.

Dec 17 2005, 03:21 AM
yea, like that one guys said... Make good use of hardware
Old hard drives are still just as usable as new ones
I still have a Computer with a Baby-ATX mother board in it... no Network card... and a cheap-as-free Soundcard... and It's still treatin me pretty good
except... I need to fix up the stinkin BIOS so it can boot from CD...
but back to the topic...
Xbox360's just don't have alot of functionality compared to a modded Xbox... compared to an unmodded Xbox there's alot there that wasn't before
and so far I'm the only person in school that i know of that has a modded Xbox.
In the end it's the functionality that sells the console
Xbox360's don't just have better graphics... they have alot more Go juice under the hood....
that one game about killing zombies... not sure what it's called... yea, there's a fuck load of stuff happening on screen and It still seems to run smoothly... that to me is pretty dang impressive.
and also the fact that you can play your own music while you play any game... that suggests that there's more than one process going on at a time.
as compared to the original XBox that has only one at a time, which was one of the biggest disappointments to me... pretty big problem
so far I can safely say that my Xbox has more functionality than the xbox360
When the 360 gets modded... It might be pretty tough to code crap for it with the kinda processor it uses..
But when crap gets coded... okay, picture this: you're play PDZ and get killed to crap by bots... thats not to fun s you deside that you're best inbred friend in the whole wide state of Texas would be a better oponent. Press the xbox360 button and what should pop up? THE 360 MENU!!...ha, no!... the XBMC or whatever dash menu you've installed!!!
BAM! go to the XLINK tab and click some options, select the game and enter the chat room... talk to your buddy... play the game
it will be possible that for the average user, you wont ever need to use Xboxlive to play online ever again...
one of the main things that Xbox live had over Xlink and other tunneling services was the fact that it was hook it up n' go... but if the Xbox360 gets cracked soon... and It's as easy to code for as it was with the Xbox, we can see some great things
trainers... video recorders so you can record you playing a game... better tunneling services... the list will go on
I also hope that M$ wont play stupid and actually use it's beautiful machine for something other than crappy games like the original Xbox... They were on the right track when they released Kareoke game... but they stopped... idiots...
this is getting WAY too long so I'm going to shut up now, I'm sorry for the time I have wasted

If you care about nothing but playing the latest and greatest games then you are correct that the original XBOX
is ancient, however I think most of us have pointed out several times that there are SOO many other ways in which the original modded XBOX is FAR superior. I'm not saying the 360 won't ever attain the level that the current XBOX does in terms of it's capabilities. I'm sure that it will surpass the original XBOX but it won't be for another couple of years. I still say you won't find another media player that even comes close to a modded original XBOX for the amount of money spent, I believe you will regret your decision to get rid of it. Take a break from doing it as a source of income and actually spend some time going back through the emulators/media player, ect. and I think you will realize that it would be a mistake to get rid of it at this point.

I still don't have a 360 and probably won't until the current issues are resolved, and we've at least figured out how to upgrade the hard drive.
The 360 will then probably replace my Xbox for DVD watching (which the Xbox doesn't even do anymore thanks to a damaged old Thompson) and for new games, but the Xbox will stick around at least until XBMC and the major emulators are running on the 360.

Rumour has it the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility code is shit for some games (Forza and others)
So even if you don't warez your games and have originals they might not work properly.
Plus there's nothing that can touch XBMC on the 360, not even close.
Then there's the emulation.
I don't intend to ditch my Xbox until something can entirely replace all it does - and since it's such a great, powerful tool - it could be years.

Not only is my xbox a virtual museum of electronic gaming up until this point, but it also holds great sentimental value for me as it holds all my favorite movies, shows, cartoons, and albums that I've loved since I was a kid. I am not going to buy an Xbox 360 until it can run Xbox Media Center.
Pretty much the only thing I use my Xbox for, a few games get played every now and then but it gets used every day with Xbox Media Center.
Heaps of my friends have seen what Xbox Media Center can do and have run out and buy an Xbox just so they can get Xbox Media Center. The functionality is well worth the price of an Xbox.
The day I read that they have got Xbox media Center running on a 360 is the day I will consider buying one.

For me, my xbox will be retired when the 360's homebrews catch up to xbox's. And hopefully by that time the 360's price factor won't be as much of an issue for me. I would think that the only people who can retire their xbox now are people who don't really use XBMC, and can afford to buy an expensive console and keep buying games.

Xbox360 is only good for its 60dollar a pop games that are not any better than a pc with a good video card, it dosent impress me enough, media or game wise. Xbox is a classic system and worth keeping and in 5/10 years from now will prblly be worth some cash to have a modded xbox with all the best games and oldskool emulators that fit on it too. Plus its the one system you can bring someone and have thousands of games at your disposal wut system beats that. NONE.
