I was playing Hexic HD the other night, and while in the timed mode I reached rank 159 with a score over 150,000. The next day I took a Western Civ. final and was the first one finished. Usually I finish tests dead last or near the end of time. Then earlier today I took another final and finished quickly. Even better I'm pretty sure I got an A on both exams.

The precursor to this genre was tetris. Tetris was invented in Russia to help train their fighter pilots to make quick decisions. These games are designed to stimulate the little gray cells.

UPDATE
Finished another final yesterday. I didn't study for it, instead I played Hexic for 2 hours. I got my grade back for it today: 95 out of 100. This is for a level 3 college exam. The class average was 81%, so it's not like it was really difficult.

Ok check this out, when I turned of the music for need for speed most wanted and repeated this out loud, "I am smart, I am confident," I magically did way better on pursuits as I was struggling for sometime.
Infact all that is required to be smarter, is to think you are smart. Thus by thinking Hexic makes you smarter, it does. But the samething can be accomplished by playing tapes when you sleep that whisper, "I am a genius, I was born to rule the world, I am very smart, my iq is 200." Over and over again. Every test would be a 100% after that, lol.

wow,... i was really drunk when i first replied to this topic,... i apologize for the pointless post,... i don't even remember saying any of that....(hence the fact this is such a delayed response)
but, now to the point of this post, i would say hexic is logic based. sure, some of it is luck.... but think of it as "if/then" sort of logic you know? "if i twist these three hexagrams this way,... then this will happen"
