(USA) Ridge Racer 6 worst-selling game on Xbox 360
-- Posted by XanTium on December 18 00:47 EST
From punchjump.com:
[QUOTE]
Namco's Ridge Racer 6 is the worst-selling game for Xbox 360 according to sales data from market research firm NPD Group. The sequel sold 9,091 units in the month of November.
By comparison Activision's Call of Duty 2, the top-selling Xbox 360 game in Nov., sold 250,730 units.
In stark contrast, Ridge Racer 6 is the top-selling game in Japan at 29,891 units sold in the first two days of launch.

I guess that just means it won't be hard for me to find a copy during the holiday season

, lol. I hear it's a good game though. I think it's just been over shadowed by the hype of PGR3 and NFS:MW. Too many racing games at once. That's why Full Auto was delayed... smart if ya ask me.

Theres no way that RR6 or any 360 game only sold a little over 9000 units. I dont believe that at all. Then they say that COD2 sold 250K, that means almost every console sold was purchased with the game, theese figures are off in my opinion!

RR6 really sux. People who like PGR2 and Forza Motorsport will be very disappointed as RR6 is a stupid arcade racing game - very unrealistic and probably O.K. for kids. I played RR6 at the XBox lounge in Tokyo and was not impressed at all. If you like racing games, especially simulations such as Forza MS, DON'T BUY RR6.

Dec 18 2005, 07:27 AM
I remember a quote that mentioned that ~90% of XBox buyers bought CoD2 as well. So, that figure may not be off by much.
RR6 isn't a game that I'd rush out and buy. There are better games there. Out of the 3, PGR3 and NFS are my top choices. Ridge Racer series is getting repetitive...
Deftech
Dec 18 2005, 07:28 AM
The series hasnt been popular in the US for years. and 77% of 360 buyers has CoD2, that # is Not an exaggeration at all. Ask anyone that has the system and chances are they have it.
9,000 does seem a bit low, but noone I know locally or on Live has RR6, not a single person. I bet it didnt even sell well in Japan

now THAT is one impressive attach rate

very unrealistic....
That's the whole point of the game! It's NOT a sim. Sims are slow paced. And to say it's for kids is like saying "Doom is for kids because that's not a real sim of how the Marines really are."
I enjoyed RR2 (I think it was 2) on the PS back in the day. Fast paced games is where it's at. That's why I can't STAND most RPGs... too fucking slow.

this really isn't a surprise.. games like that don't have a place in a market like ours with all the liscenses and big name manufacturer support.. If it wasn't for the gameplay of the Burnout series it would see the same fate.. Ever since I played the first RR I wondered what these devs were thinking.

All the people who jump to this conclusion aren't looking at the big picture. The Japanese launch of 360 had 6 games, 1 of which was tetris, another of which was some lame family kiddy game. It doesn't mean Japanese gamers are stupid, it means they wanted SOMETHING to play on their new Xbox, and MS hadn't given them shit. You can't just compare the numbers and come to that conclusion. US Xbox had a lot more games available and they still do have way more available than Japan.
To continue, by the end of December Japan still won't see any good games - save for DoA4, but who knows if that will be delayed again. There are only 3~4 more games being launched in December. How many does the US have right now? Yea, thought so.
This racist crap has to stop.

I dont remember which ones launched, looking it up...
Every Party
FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup
Ridge Racer 6
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Perfect Dark Zero
Tetris: The Grandmaster Ace
Thats the only list I could find, is that correct?
Good grief Now I see why RR6 is selling over there. Man they dont have anything to chose from

lol....u know what the funny thing is? Part of the reason it sells so well in japan is that its also the top rated game for the 360 in most japanese mags!!! thats right, over every other title....lol
Hey maybe thats the secret to success over in japan....just stop making good games and give them all the crappy ones while we get the good ones. After all, they dont seem to like good games. Give them the your fitness sequel....lol

Deftech, those 6 are the correct list of launch titles. If you check the Japanese Xbox website it says other games launched with the console (dec. 10) but that is wrong - I've yet to see those games. I checked local stores yesterday and it was still the same crappy 6 line-up.
I don't have a 360 yet, but I wouldn't buy Call of Duty 2 (if it were in Japan) - or Ridge Racer 6 for that matter.

Lets see who really wins
250,730 x $60 =15043800
29,891 x 60=1793460
Grand total = $16,837,260
Now... Who do you think won... I think you lost for buying the game, and M$ won for Over pricing games.

MS didn't set the price for 360 games.... and they didn't make THAT much money... they get a slice of the pie yeah but developers get a slice too... as do publishers and retailers and blah, blah blah, blah blah.

You mean because they don't make millions of WWII FPS and Sci-fi FPS(with the same over used objects) and FPS and more FPS....................yup their games must suck.
Take a poll from around the globe, have people name their favorite game of all time, I bet the majority will name a game from a Japanese developer.................

While theres nothing revolutionary about RR6, its much better than PGR3 in terms of gameplay, and theres way more to do. Lots of tracks, and cars to unlock. I enjoy it quite a bit, probably gets the most play at on my 360.

dude i bought RR6 because the way the had the videos for it were tight as hell but when i started playing it i was like wtf!!?!?!? this game is sooo damn gay and it's doesn't' have many tracks they just make u do them over and over again except for maybe going backwards. the japansese used to be good game makers but now there just starting to suck ass seriously who cares about them! also one of the most laggy games i've ever played, it lags every single damn time! and all my other online games are perfect ike 98% of the time. i damn near cried because i got it from compusa and i know im not gonna be able to return it!!

not even little kids should get it and it is true japanese people are proving there stubborness by only buying japanese crap no matter HOW crappy it is. and the us people who did buy it were fooled by there damn ads!

I'd have to agree with the poster that said RR6 isn't a bad game, it just had to compete with the likes of PGR3 and NFS... two high profile franchises here in the states. It's like being the last kid picked at dodgeball. You might be good, but nobody knows it. I just hope Namco doesn't take it personally and ditches the 360 when they think about bringing Soul Caliber and company to the next gen.
One question to those who have played RR6 (as I have not). I love Burnout through and through. I hate Forza and Gran Turismo. THEY BORE ME. Given those facts, would RR6 be up my alley? I've been trying like hell to rent it, but it's always checked out. And God forbid they put the demo on the Marketplace...

How close to Burnout's gameplay is it?

I love the game. I think it's a blast. I think the gameplay is more similar to Burnout than the ones you mentioned. I hated this game at first. The next day as I was about to return it, I gave it another go. It blew me away. The controls are extremely "arcadey", much like Burnout. I'm glad I decided to try it a second time. There's no way I'm letting this game out of my collection now. I don't want to tell you to run out and buy it if you can't rent it, but you'd be doing yourself a terrible disservice if you didn't find some way to try it out at least. Just play it with an open mind. The learning curve is small. Once you start doing really good, tons of other routes and tracks open up. There is a small selection of tracks like someone mentioned, but once I got into it, it didn't bother me.
I only liked PGR3 slightly more than RR6. I didn't care for NFS: MW. I thought that was a pretty unfun game.
So, yeah, I think RR6 would be up your alley.

Well, if you don't like Forza and GT then you won't like PGR3, because all 3 are considered the SIM type where racing is realistic. As in, you better slow down before you hit that turn because they would in real life.
I haven't played RR, and I just picked up NFS and haven't played it yet. I have played the NFS demo though and that's why I picked it up. I've heard some bad things about the game(lackluster graphics, choppy, repetitive) so since I haven't played it and can't comment on those I'm not going to tell you to buy. However, after playing the demo I think it's the closest thing to Burnout on the 360 right now. PGR3 is a Sim racer, RR though arcadey is still just racing as I've seen it, but NFS is arcadey in its controls and destructive like Burnout. You can crash into street lamps, gas stations, take out cars in your way(they slow you down, but not dead stop like Burnout 3). I thought the graphics were good, the controls are arcadey, and overall I had fun playing the demo. I like PGR3 for accomplishing something, but NFS was fun. I liked that it was a free roaming environment almost like a GTA on the highway. When doing the challengs like evading police you aren't just doing laps over and over again. You're on the highway and you see an exit to the right, take it; come up to an intersection choose any direction. You can go through parking garages, through parks, golf courses, etc.
I'm guessing you might have played the demo already being that you were looking for RR demo on the marketplace, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in anyway.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have NFSMW and I really enjoyed it. It was really fun running from the cops. Not as fun as Burnout, but still good... despite the framerates. So I guess the consensus is, if I like Burnout and NFSMW, then RR6 is my kinda game. Cool. I'll have to grab a copy.
I asked Major Nelson about a demo on XBL... but he's busy and probably doesn't care about a game that only sold 9000 copies.

Never doubt the almight dollar.
If MS thought they could squeeze a a few million dollars out of the Halo franchise by putting Halo1 on the PS3, I bet they would. Not Halo 2 or 3 mind you... those are exclusives (for now). But I imagine Sony would jump at the opportunity to have the first one on PS3.
Then all the boxes with "Only for Xbox" would become collectors items.

i honestly liked rr6 at first but then you get to the end of that 110 track listing and it unlocks another 200 or so, i was just bored. the game is fun if you like arcade games, but my biggest dislikes were how most of the cars are all the same, just different classes, all the tracks are the same, maybe 3-4 variations per location plus the oppurtunity to go backwards, the announcer would talk about nothing but nitrous, and just stupid things like on a no nitrous race the AI racers always seemed to have an ample supply. I played it for a couple weeks and traded it in for PGR3 and havent been happier. It makes me sad to see such awesome drifting in a game (rr6) that takes no more skill than letting go of gas and turning.
