On the first few levels where you can just walk through the game without much fear of ever getting low on health ( first 5 levels or so )..

Don't use your keys. Anytime you get to a door just wait until about 50 of your life clicks off and the doors automatically open. This way you have some keys put away for later.

Personally I dont think conserving keys really matters. Around every 10 or 15 levels youll get a chance to max out your keys...
