I am thinking about installing linux on my X. I like Gentoox for its Samba server and MCE capability. Is there any reason not to install it or to install xDSL instead. i see lots of posts for xDSL. Can anyone give me some advice?

I would personally install them both. They both use cromwell, so you are given a choice of which to load at the loading screen.

I used to use gentoox but now mainly use xdsl as it loads and shuts down in about half the time of gentoox, also the programs load faster.

(I'll just check the app list) can't find samba or mce, but I'm sure you can get them from debian.

i prefer Xebian myself. Its a Nice Clean Cut System. Lots of apps and Tools. Give it a look.

after install xebian i set my ip to 192.168.1.40

but my dashboard (evox) is 192.168.1.122

is there a way to see the ip in linux or change it.

also i am mainly doing this to run a cs source server only like 10 or less people for netowrk only. i have alla the necessary files downloaded and when i type "./scrds_run" it says the ip is 192.168.1.40 and when i try to connect tho that ip it doesnt work.

anyone ever set up source server on xbox?

if i wantto uninstall xebian can i jsut delete it using my ftp program and will it delete all the folders that i made in linux. or instead of deleating can i jsut cut and paste it to my f drive which has much more space

To see the ip address run ifconfig eth0

To change the ip address edit /etc/network/interfaces. Once you are done editing save your changes and type ifdown eth0; ifup eth0 to make the new settings come into effect.
