Well, with the release of Dead Or Alive 4 finally imminent, we thought we would let u in on IGN's official review of the game. They give the fighter a 9.0, a respectable score for the Xbox360 title considering Famitsu gave the game a 37/40. Remember, this game should be in your hands by tomorrow afternoon at the lateest.

Here's a repeat of what I been saying all this time.

QUOTE
The characters, on the other hand, are a mixed bag. It's not that they aren't good looking. They are. They're intricately detailed and imagined with flourish and style. Kasumi, Leifang, and Ayane, for instance, show off noticeably flowing silky hair. All the characters display special moves and superbly motion-captured animations that are worth watching repeatedly. When the characters grapple each other you won't see the clipping or body melding seen so often in wrestling games. These characters grab each other with precision and eye-catching animations. Characters such as Ryu Hayabusa, Jann Lee and Bayman all show increased musculature and heightened emotional intensity. Bungie's Spartan-458 looks excellent too, fully suited in specialized Mjolnir armor.

But none of the characters have made a significant graphic jump in design above their predecessors. The women still look like satin dolls and the guys like burly thugs. It's not a big gripe, but one that's worth discussing a little given the advances in current videogame facial expressions and potential emotional output. The character design is more of an amplification of the previous roster's clean looks than a major shift or advancement. And when compared to the spiffy backgrounds, they stand in even greater contrast, looking simple and unrealistic. Perhaps that's just a peeve of my own, because the game overall really does look great.

So that review would tie it with COD2 for best xbox 360 game as reviewed by IGN....Not too shabby.

yeah but thats the look of the game...thats the look they are going for... like or not that what they wanted, you could bitch about street fighter being under developed too but its still one of the best fighters out there...
KAGE360
yeah i see what the reviewer is saying but it should have been mentioned in the review that its the art direction that they want and that the characters are intended to look that way.

one thing that i have said all along is that one of the biggest factors of a graphical presentation in the next gen is the art direction. with the advanced technology in the next gen systems its less about hardware restraints and more about art direction with how the developers make the final product look.

I usually only pay attention to what ign has to say when it comes to reviews, previews and release dates etc, and I believe that 9.0 is fair. DOA4 is going to be visually only a bit better than what we have already seen on first gen xbox, it is only the online and offline gameplay additions that makes this the best DOA yet.

DOA4 will simply be the best fighter ever made considering DOA3 is to this date renowned as the best fighter ever made so DOA4 will simply take its place but someone mentioned street fighter? OMG, live in the NOW people, that game was garbage when it was state of the art graphics in its own time. 2D fighters having a place in the world of DOA ? much less XBOX 360 ? LMAO thats a good one.
crobar
hahahah yeah...no for real street fighter games still rock dry.gif

well the game will be a lot more then just "visually only a bit better".

and you comparing street fighter to ANY 3D fighter is like comparing apples to oranges. it shouldnt be done and even though i love the DoA series i also love the street fighter series. and for it being the best fighter ever, thats debatable because i also love the VF series which IMO is as good as the DoA series if not a bit better.

As long as the ladies are still able to sit on my face, it's all good...

now quit bickering about 2d and 3d and relish the sites of all the melons.

i personally like DOA2:ultimate better then DOA3, also, 2d fighters are not a thing of the past, the old street figher games are amazing, and if your saying 2d fighters suck and don't have any place in modern gaming, you must have overlooked the guilty gear series.

You gotta be fsckin kidding. or completely stupid, take your choice.
DOA may be the best 3d fighter on xbox, but thats not saying much. Its very near the bottom of the list of all 3d fighters.
Virtua Fighter 4 is MILES beyond doa. even tekken is better than doa. The only mainstream 3d fighter that is WORSE than DOA is soul calibur.

Its not a bad game, and ill probably pick up doa4 if/when i get an xbox2.

But to dismiss SF and 2d games is purely ignorant. SF3:third strike is one of the all-time best fighting games.
2D fighters are still going strong, with recent releases of King of Fighters neowave on ps2, King of Fighters XI, Samurai Spirits tenka, and Neo-Geo battle colosseum in the arcade, all with ps2 ports coming; Guilty gear, SF alpha3 on psp, melty blood, rumble fish2, etc. (OK, those last 2 suck ass, but it shows that the genre is very much alive and well).

To this day, i would much rather play Samurai Spirits 2 or 5:special (though im liking Tenka as well) over any other fighter, 2d or 3d, with the exception of Virtua Fighter 4:evo (or final tuned in the arcade).

Off topic but this pic looks crazy. It says PS3 so I am guessing this is all pre rendered right?

I own several DOA games, but I never cared for the fighting mechanics. To me the best fighting games are SFII and the Tekken series. They offer a deaper element that doesn't fall back to quick easy to execute reversals. From what I hear DOA4 is a step closer to these games because the reversals now require some level of mastery. I hope that this is the case. I do think that the character models were excellent for the last gen, but now it is time for more realism. Though from an artistic stand point the characters look well conceived; I feel that the more realistc Tekken and Virtua Fighter models (the ones only seen in stills) are a reflextion of the next gen.

I'll likely buy the game because it is the best chance I have of fighting online with the 360.

Haven't played DOA4 yet, but when DOA3 was released for the original XBox, its graphics blew me away. Kind of like when Soul Calibur was released for the Sega Dreamcast. I hope that Namco releases Soul Calibur 4 for the 360. That would kick some serious butt! biggrin.gif

Tekken is for monkeys. The counters are what make the game so much more complex than the other games you mentioned. As opposed to Tekkens block or hit system. If you can pull off reversals so easy in DOA:U, you weren't playing DOA:U.
KAGE360
yeah really tekken is not that much of a skill based game. i have seen PLENTY of times people who just button mash beat out the player who learns the moves and comboes. tekken has taken a dive, while the DoA and VF series continue to improve. the countering system may have been a bit easy in DoA3 but after playing DoA:U you really need skill to pull off the counters effectively. many people have told me i counter too much and rarely do they see people counter as often as i do, that is because i put practice into it. DoA4 seems to have sped up the machanics and making them more refined giving the game a new layer of depth.

i cant wait to get the game tonight!! ill be seeing you suckers in the arena grr.gif jester.gif laugh.gif

Its obvious you are in love with old gen fighters of which almost no one plays anymore, most people are living in the NOW. However just so you are set completely straight beyond your brainwashed mind, DOA3 is most certainly the best fighter ever made untill DOA4 surpasses it. You can look this up on ANY major game site as well as ANY E3 or other awards. It is common knowledge that DOA3 set the bar when it came out providing not only the BEST graphics ever seen in a fighter before but also the best fighting ENGINE ever made. Now the fighting engine part will be a matter of OPINION among gamers like us, but the official word WORLD WIDE from the people who review these games is that DOA3 is the BEST hands down, its not even a question to debate.

I suggest you do your research before you go spewing crap out of your butt thats ONLY based on your opinions and NOTHING else.

peace.
KAGE360
no matter how much research is done and no matter who says it an opinion is just that, an opinion. im not arguing with anyone just stating a fact. it is a fact that technically the DoA series is the most beautiful of the last generation and that is something that can not be argued on. however as far as fighting engines, it is a fun and polished engine that Yu Suzuki helped itagaki build up but even with the countering system that i love i believe it still lacks the depth of the VF series which many people also consider ONE of the best 3D fighters out there. IMO one game is more strategic and sim-like while the other is intense and very reflex heavy both having their positives and negatives with their fighting engines. the only lackluster in the bunch IMO is tekken which its fighting engine tries to be many things but fails to be anything in the end. the countering is off-wack, the skill development is trivial when a button masher can beat you, and the combos are not much to add depth to a fighting game.

i love DoA and VF for different reasons and have played both since their first appearance. its great to know that we will be getting pretty much everything DoA for another generation in a row, but i would be really happy to hear that VF5 was headed to the 360 as well (with online to boot!!)

yeah where have you been? all the PS3 games will be pre-renderd. fuck realtime graphic!!! w00t

I only played 5 matches at Eb with the manager when I picked the game up on my lunch break, but neither of us were able to pull of a counter. They are more difficult this time around, or maybe I'm just not used to playing DOA (it's been months)
Altima NEO
lol, PS3 and its pre-rendered graphics

360 may be the next Dreamcast, but PS3 will be the next Sega CD. Sewer Shark anyone?

Anyone who calls the 360 xbox2 has no credibility, lol (not too mention the rest of his crap that he wrote) anyway back to DOA4,, Rogers Video in Canada has them, but no retail stores yet
rfmok
whoa...there's nothing wrong with old school fighters! and I'm not a PS fanboy but what the hell about tekken 5!? Read the reviews on that and play it! I'm not saying Tekken 5 is better than DOA3 as a fact, but in my opinion I think it is. DOA3 wasn't the last fighter ever made...and I'm sure people will argue that soul calibur 2 (which came after DOA3) gives it a run for its money. But hey these are all opinions! Relax! biggrin.gif

Anyways, I got DOA4 on the 360 and its good. Graphics are nice. I'm playing it online trying to figure some things out. It's definitely a deep fighter and you can't mash buttons like Tekken to win against your opponents. Takes skills. I'm going to have to spend some time in sparring mode to learn these characters :-). Happy gaming people.

Loved DOA3 and will eventually pick DOA4 up. All this arguing about fighting games is stupid. In my opinion Tekken is more of a beat em up game with its lack of skill moves, reversals and such. I really like Soul Caliber but it is no where as deep as DOA or other hand combat fighting games. Soul Caliber is in its own class because its more of a weapon based fighting game. In my opinion the only mainstream fighting game still being produced that features a deep fighting system is DOA. I'd love to see some of the older franchise games resurface and give it a run for its money but as of right now it doesn't look like thats going to happen. Anyway its all preferance people.

Holy shit youre stupid.
ever wonder why NOBODY plays DOA games in serious competitive tournaments?
Because its an incredibly shallow game.

Japan is the biggest market for fighters, and Virtua Fighter 4:final tuned and Street Fighter 3:third strike are king.
NOone and NOwhere (outside of xbox fanboy sites) has EVER rated DOA as "the best fighting game."

And how is King of Fighters XI and Samurai Spirits Tenka "old gen"? They were JUST released in the arcades, on the Atomiswave hardware. This is "the now" dumbass. Its not about graphics, its about gameplay.
Doa is fun, but its nowhere near the top.

but perhaps these other games are too complicated for you?
I think YOU should do some research, halfwit.

biggrin.gif . You said it. Not, to be confused with DOA series as being shallow, but I do enjoy my SF and virtua fighter series. I still play them and they offer something different than the mechanics behind some of these 3d fighters. How is DOA3 the best fighter? I mean do you guys not remember the game reviews for it when it first came out on the xbox launch? It is a good game though. And yes, while these are all opinions, you can't say that nobody plays capcom or sega coinops anymore.

Japan keeps them alive and so do we. It's not all about graphics. I got DOA4 and I'm loving it. So far, its great! But I never thought the DOA series was the best. I'll have to play DOA4 a little longer ;-). It's my opinion though. It's not a fact. So lets all relax and play the games :-). Have fun.
