well you could pay 50 bucks a year for xbox live. But there is also xlink kai which works pretty much in the same way as xbconnect (with system link).

those are the most popular choices for online gaming

Why do people use Kai and XBCONNECT. They both lag like hell.

your kidding right ? .. i play on kai everyday with no lag, my friend can host 16 player GR2:SS games that are silky smooth .. you must just have crappy internet or didn't check ping/location of the host u tried ..

edit: to actually answer your question, since that seems hard to some people ..

www.teamxlink.co.uk
www.xbconnect.com
www.xmelee.com
www.gamespy.com

those are your 4 choices for online free xbox gaming .. listed from best to worst IMO :]

Sorry I never posted web addresses in my earlier post. But in reguard to the guy who said that xbc and xlink lag a lot, as long as you find a server with good upload speed threre should be no lag. Thats why i like xbc al little better than xlink. On xbc they have approved servers that have to pass a test by the administrators. If you pass that mean you have an excellent server for hosting and they put a little lightning bolt next to your name.

Thanks for posting guys, I've been off on vacation and work smile.gif

But as said, you've only got a few free online ones

Xlink, Gamespy, XBConnect, and Xmelee, I personally have tried all but xmelee which will be tested sometime later this week smile.gif

Out of them I like XBC the most, but I was around it the longest and worked for them for 3/4 ish years.

Xlink is not bad at all though, interesting interface, interesting options (router firmware and integrated with XBMC)

Gamespy is crap hah

we can all agree on one thing :]

Yepo, probably one of the worst gaming experiences I've had, even when XBC was a baby and was 2 xboxs, pink interface, and used an IRC channel to chat it was better than Gamespy's setup.

On the comment of why use any of these. Cuz you want to play online and use a copied game or you don't want to pay for xbox live.

As for we only have a few choices for free, well there is online one choice for pay, and granted it is the MS one, I wouldn't say it is perfect either, just nicer than free ones, but hey, you pay for it and its MSs golden child for the xbox.

Or simply own a legit modified Xbox with legal games.
