I've read many many posts, many I have found helpful but not enough. I have also read many tutorials, before posting this.

Ok what I was trying to do is softmod one of my boxes without using the swap method ith boXplorer. I first powered on the 2 boxes, both correctly loaded thier dashboards (the unmodded loaded M$ dash and the modded one loaded XBMC) So I loaded boXplorer from the D drive on my XBMC (the disk inserted contained an ISO of boXplorer, ernie & bert files and phoenix bios loader) Browsing D drive using boXplorer, i unplugged the IDE from the non modded system and did the same for the modded system, then i plugged the IDE cable from the modded system into the unmodded HDD. This worked,

I then had access to the unmodded HDD from boXplorer. SO i followed the instructions give in a tut from xbox-scene. renamed both xft to xtf or something like that, loaded phoenix bios loader along with evox dashboard and the requied file, and also added the bert and ernie files to the C drive of the box. Everything seemed fine till i resetted the box to complete instalation, thats when i started getting error 21, from there i tried pretty much everything and nothing seems to work.

unfortunatly i do NOT have the xbox HDD password or anyinfo (this is my main problem) can anyone tell me what I can do about this?

im open to suggestions, e.g; adding a modchip to recover EEPROM data, changing the EEPROM chip (desolder and resolder from an other xbox, I have about 6 of em) or anything else, I would be very greatful

Can you cold boot games?

Negative on cold booting anything, I tried cold booting Halo 2 so it can update the dashboard, but that was a dud. The box stops at the xbox logo, and about 2 minutes later the "MS" logo appears. And thats about that, I get error 21, and sevral different errors, depending on what i do, I get error 13, error 06..

Ok, I know the problem. You might just have overlooked this.
You dont need the HDD password.
PUT THE HDD'S BACK IN THEIR ORIGIONAL XBOXES!
YOU GET AN ERROR 06 WHEN YOU HAVE A LOCKED, BUT WRONG HDD IN THE XBOX!
THIS SHOULD FIX IT!
Cold boot a game, fix the Dashboard, and use something like 007 Autoinstaller next time

Both HDDs are back in thier original boxes and still no booting. With original HDD in it I get error 21.

why didnt you just use ndure to install the softmod? if you cant get it to boot anything or get it to do anything then i would say just chip it, and then fix the files. Will it boot movies? if so you could try a rescue disk.

I guess I will have to chip it, will any chip do the trick? I'm thinking of a cheap DuoX - FlashBios/Cromwell Edition.


I don't know about movies because I dont have the DVD remote either, should I get a used one to try?
