Yes all sammy drives are better than thompson, but only the xbox sammy which is model sdg 605 (I think) is plug and play. While the computer sammy is much better (can read just about all media including retail xbox games) it requires some modification (check the internet for tutorials). But on how to find out which version you have on the top of the dvd drive in the upper right corner it ahould have a model number i think that the computer model is like 606t.
He's likely referring to xbox Samsung drives... not PC drives that work with xboxes.
Anyways, there's 3 different versions of the Samsung SDG 605 dvd drive for the xbox. There's a small white sticker on the drive that says "version a", "version b" or version f" on it. That's how you know which version drive you have.
Version b is the best since it can read CD-R without the need to "tweak" the potentionmeter. If you have an xbox manufactured after 2003... you likely have a SDG 605f drive since they stopped making the other 2 versions.
Yes, they're all better than Thomsons (thomson drives had severe design flaws).
